I don’t realize I take for granted the lack of shame I have attached to my period. My mom was so great at breaking that generational baggage by talking with me about it without making it something to be secretive or embarrassed about. My dad had 5 sisters and he was pretty great when I occasionally needed him too.

I always lived with girls and would sometimes have up to 16 people living in my house at once and only four of them being boys, yet that somehow made the rules stricter about it and when I got my period for the first time I was basically shamed for it by my cousins that lived with us and they would constantly joke about me being smelly or stinky and I’d have to have my older sister to console me, I’m so glad that periods are starting to get more attention as it’s common for every woman, I don’t feel ashamed anymore as I’ve stopped since 8th grade but now that I’m older it brings a smile each time to see other generations get such privileges to comfort such as this :)))

That's part of what that open cart is about. It's to show a period is nothing to be ashamed of and that if they have questions, they can ask her mom. It's an unspoken "They know it's out in the open so I can just ask for some help" kinda thing. It makes it easier to discuss periods if the girls are younger teens because everyone already knows the products are there.

Periods were so taboo in my house growing up. Even buying pads was treated as shameful. My mum would be super annoyed when I would put some in the shopping trolley. She would complain that I didnt get the cheapest brand and that she already bought me some how could I have run out. I was always told the pain was normal too. Just for anyone who is unsure about themselves...extreme pain is not normal you should see the doctor. I remember visiting a friend's home for a sleepover and her mum was really sweet and showed me where I would sleep and then the bathroom. She opened the cupboard and showed me a whole lot of period products and said they were there if I needed them. I want to be like her when I'm a parent. Edit: my mother is a lovely person, she just has generational trauma about periods. I love and respect her, I just intend to break the pattern.

As a 63yr old, the thing that causes me the biggest upset in the 🇬🇧 in 2024 is Period Poverty. It breaks my heart knowing some women - but especially schoolgirls - are having their lives disrupted and education affected due to not being able to afford protection. Whenever l take stuff to my local Food Bank, l always put in loads of boxes of tampons, pads and Feminine Wipes. My Dear ol' Nan used to have to rely on strips of cotton sheets that she and her sisters would wash out and reuse. Please don't tell me were going back to the 1890s? Sanitary Protection should be available in schools to keep girls' attendance consistent.

I agree. I feel very strongly about this too because growing up, we could only afford to buy me one bag a month and it could only be one size, which had to be the overnight ones because I had a very heavy flow. I couldn't waste any, and it was uncomfortable when my flow finally got lighter. It caused issues :,( I hadn't really thought about the different sizes and such, until I went to college and was finally able to get a job on campus and afford my own things. I'm so happy these days to buy some more quality pads and have all the sizes I need. I wish I could give that to every person who needs it :,,) And I think about that too when thinking of donating. Bless you for keeping what might be overlooked in mind!! It must be very helpful to people who cannot afford what is a basic necessity.

Actually, reusable pads are becoming a thing, they're usually made from cotton with an absorbant layer. Reusable period products aren't necessarily a bad thing. But aside from that, I 100% agree that period products belong into every school bathroom (both for girls and boys. Trans guys shouldn't have to go into the girls' bathroom to get period product)

Periods were NEVER a tabu topic im our house, we have 4 ladies and a Daddy who is a champion through it all. I recently had to have a hysterectomy and ALL four of our ladies and Daddy were right by my side upon waking up. It's ALL in education and allowing your family to be educated for the thick and thin of things. It's something different when Mommy goes down for the count for a hot second, NO ONE IS PLAYING.👍👍❤️❤️

I’ve grown up in households that not only made the topic awkward, but it was a don’t ask don’t tell type of family, and I was too scared to ask out of shame and anxiety. Women from other families had to teach me about it and to this day(as a grown adult) I still get things wrong. I’m still trying to grow out of it and be more comfortable with the fact that it’s a thing. Keep up the great work!

Honestly, my mom never even told me how to use tampons because I never asked. I literally opened the box under the sink and there was a set of directions inside on how to use them. It was super easy, got it on the first try and I was only 13. 🤷🏽‍♀️ It's best when you do it for the first time to follow the directions. They tell you to stand on the floor and raise one foot onto the toilet, and then slowly insert it until your fingers that are holding the plastic part where you put your fingers come in to contact with you, and then you just push the stick! Easy peasy!

The only knowledge I had about periods and puberty changes at first was from 5th grade sex ed classes, and eventually high school. My mother straight up refused to teach me about any of it, and when I specifically ask her for help, she would just tell me to google it. For tampon insertion, for good foods while you're cramping, this woman had a lifetime of experiencing womanhood, and she gatekept the information from her own daughter! I'm glad that you're providing support for your daughters, and their friends too! It's a wonderful way to impact those that walk through your door.

If you have the resources to fill this caddy and feed the restock algorithm, please consider donating to schools and shelters for those with far less privilege than you. Many, many, MANY people have to make one of those boxes work for them for an entire cycle or more. You are incredibly lucky to be able to do this. You might consider adding labels as well - it might look cuter without the packaging but how are your kids friends supposed to know what all the products are, especially different levels of absorpency.
