I’m going through this with my 1 year 4 month old boy. He’s currently going through his second urethra treatment , and this one is 36 hours, and after we are talking about surgery. I’m already $3,000 in the hole but if I can save him I’m doing it! I’m glad this worked for you I hope I if works for me!

My boy is very high strung and gets stressed quite easily. He just got out of surgery. They told me ill be able to pick him up tomorrow. He blocked last week and he was catheterized. And he blocked again today and they recommended i do this instead of another catheter. (Prices have gone up 4x since youve put out this video, total ive spent about ~$4000 including the surgery) it was a very hard decision. I cannot sleep. I hope this lets my little boy have a comfortable and long life.

I am so sorry. I hope this work well for your kitty. I know prices have gone up so much. My kitty too went through another surgery. I could feel his belly felt hard and they did an ultra sound then x-ray. Luckily it was not an abnormal growth but a wad of hair ties he had been ingesting over the years. How he had not passed them and was still able to live somewhat normal is beyond my understanding. But they did a scope and were able to get them. It was $3,000 for everything but he is doing so much better! I love him so!

My kitty poncho is going through this right now. This week has been a nightmare. He was diagnosed on a wednesday, blocked and hospitalized friday, home sunday, back to emerg sunday night but wasn't blocked, monday night he blocked again. I made the same decision even though it was a bit more expensive, long term less expensive and better for his health. I just picked him up today after the PU surgery so I'm still incredibly stressed and hoping he pee's soon. Thank you for this video, it's so encouraging to hear others experiences. I'm a full time student so I only have so much money so I'm hoping all will be well otherwise, I don't know what I will do. Thank you again.

Thank you for your video. Today is my cat's first day home after his surgery and I wasn't really told how intense this would seem. He was only blocked the once and we decided that since reblocking is common we wanted to make sure this wouldn't ever happen to him again. I am glad to hear someone say they are happy they did so, since I was feeling guilty that I was putting my cat through this for my own peace of mind.

Hi Trisha, So glad he is doing better. It is wild the price differences. Mieko Just went through another surgery but this time he had ingested hair ties. I am not sure if this is his own fetish, or related to his over grooming of his belly he has done since the surgery. In the same way dogs eat grass to puke. But he just cost me $3,000 for an endoscopy where they pulled a 1lb of hair ties from his belly that must have been amounting for years.... He's a few months out now and doing so much better and looking a lot healthier. But still amazes me... He has 9 lives.

Thanks for sharing. My cat was blocked twice this year (two weeks apart). They mentioned PU surgery the second time he was blocked but we decided to try and change his diet with hopes for the best. Well, tonight (7 months later) he is starting to get blocked again, so he'll go in for PU first thing in the morning. I'm dreading the healing process. Unblocking runs about 1 grand per visit here in PA. The surgery is the same price. I jokingly call him the worlds most expensive cat.

My cat, Polo, is on day 16 after his PU surgery. I think it was due to the stress of a new cat (Kiki) in the home, compounded with a move soon after I rescued Kiki, so I'm thinking of rehoming Kiki to avoid future stress. I adopted Polo and his brother Marco as kittens, so they have each other as a bonded pair and won't be lonely without Kiki. I just wanted to get Kiki off the streets and get her healthy, so she will be just fine in a new, loving home, even though I will miss her! I'm supposed to remove Polo's e-collar today, but I'm a little worried because he's bleeding a bit off and on from the incision site (just had a check up day before yesterday - doctor said everything looks normal) and I don't want to make things worse. I'm probably just being an overprotective cat mommy. The surgery cost was a little high (about $3300) since it was done at an ER here in Houston, but they have some of the best doctors in the city, and he was very difficult to unblock, poor thing (he blocked twice). I hope your cat is doing well!

Sorry for the late response. He does still go through bouts of irritation in that area of his groin. He will have several months where his hair grows back and he’s doing great then he’s back to over grooming and it looking raw. I have had him in a small steroids for some time and that seemed to help but having him on prednisone long term is not great either. My new vet since I moved suggested that maybe it did not entirely heal properly post surgery for him to still having irritation years later, but I’m not sure of that either. Mieko is a nervous nelly and he may just get fixated and have that be a focus of his stress. I have him still on a non Rx urinary wet food. I tried playing with his food such as raw and that did not work for him. He just went in for his first teeth cleaning under anesthesia and did wonderful. Overall he is a happy kitty with some irritation, but I watch and maintain extra awareness on that area and his over grooming; he has never been blocked again!

We are two months out from our cat first blocking. They flushed him 3 times, he still blocked. Then the p u surgery and it was immediately unsuccessful and they said he developed a stricture. They bring him two weeks later for a revision p u surgery and our cat still can’t pee well, just in drips. I’m so mentally exhausted and financially drained. They never mentioned about a stricture being a complication after p u surgery and now it’s worse off then if we would have kept flushing his system. The little guy is still hanging in there, he goes in for a follow up in another week but I’m not sure what the outcome will be and am so sad over all this.

Hi Kira, Sorry I am just seeing this now. So yes I was able to leave him in a spare bedroom. He did have "drainage" though that was often bloody. I put down doggie potty bags all over the bed so he could be comfortable. He hated the cone of shame but we left it on as directed. He was able to flip his body in such a way that he could still reach they area, and I used a small sheet of paper and extended it making it a little longer. He was out of it for the first couple days home. The vet even kept him two days after the surgery since he was apparently hallucinating and they wanted to continue to monitor him. At first they stated to leave the stitches in for two weeks and then upon bringing him back, they extended that a week. He had lost weight from being sick and was frail so putting weight back on him was a priority. As I write this now, he is playing with a toy...lol. I know this is very scary but you are doing the right thing, what is his age? Hope this helps and I am thinking of Phoenix!

Now I have to do the PU surgery and I’m trying to find a quotes from different vets as the ER quoted me 5k or 6k! I’m praying I can find a vet that will offer a cheaper cost. I’m beyond broke now 😭 I’m pissed the ER didn’t offer the surgery at the time of the second blockage, they told me they only do it if he blocks three times. Hi there, Mieko's healing was pretty intense. He was black and blue and I mean black and blue to the point where the entire shaved area was purple looking. I could see the sutures and the initial area's mucosa was red, but not swollen. He did have some leakage and blood the first week so we kept puppy pads around his area. Less movement was ideal. There was no sign of infection though, or greenness or puss. Call you vet if you feel there is but usually they put them on antibiotics to avoid that kind of thing so I'm sure its just the healing process. Hope this helps, and good luck to your Kitty! and we used the "yesterday's news" litter to keep his area free from any possible infection as stated by our vet. He did not like the litter at first and did have an accident but got used to it.

Thank you SO much for sharing this. I've never heard of a cat being 'blocked' and I've always had cats. This happened to my twelve year old male cat about 4 hours ago. He's at the vet now, can't fit the usual catheters in so have used an IV catheter to at least allow him to empty his bladder. He is now pending review by another vet in the morning to see about the PU surgery. I haven't had a quote yet, just to unblock it was AUD2k. Not sure whether I will need to sell a kidney (no pun intended). Also have read re dry food being bad. He's always been on dry food but a very expensive brand. I did wonder about whether they would leak so thank you for answering that question. You clearly love your kitty very much. BTW, I have had a female cat for a few months longer than my boy and she went missing about two months ago. They hated each other but he has been crying and now I think he was stressing about her leaving despite them not getting on. Even though he is twelve, I can't possibly not do the surgery so will have to bite the bullet. Remortgage the house perhaps 😳 Again, thanks for this video

Carolyn Dean Hi there, we did the surgery and he has been coming along really well but just become very very odd lately. Best way to describe him is as almost as though he's become senile!? He comes in then wants to go out and repeats ALL day. Perhaps the emergency thing scared him. No idea. He has no problems with the bathroom side of things and is eating 90% specific kidney friendly diet (I'm having to mix some regular wet cat food with it as he won't touch it otherwise. I'm reducing the mix daily as it not ideal. He never had that rubbish before his issue either so the kidney food must be dreadful lol). No idea but he really isn't himself so I think a check up is in order early next week. I have some back problems which make moving around a lot difficult at times so his constant need for attention is really tough just now 😳

Wow, this sounds like my cat exactly. He had the surgery this morning and we paid about $2000 total between the 2 unblocks and the surgery. He also is just past a year old so we were concerned for his quality of life. I just want my boy to be heals. How long before he seemed 'normal'? My cat had what looked like beach water urine (sandy) and I'm thinking its stress or maybe food related, as we had switched all 3 cats to mackerel/lamb combo diet a few months ago and I've heard things about fish being a culprit for these crystals.

Hi S Saunders, it is really an intense surgery for your kitty and frightening for you as the parent. I would say that it could be the other Cats stressing him out, but only because that was my situation. Chicken urinary tract food from purina pro plan is what I have used and had no problems. I have heard fish and lamb can be inflammatory, but again talk to your vet for more information. I am so sorry you and your kitty are going through this, but know you are not alone. The sandy like material sounds like Urinary crystals which form and cause the blockage in the urethra and if he was able to pass some of it that is good, my kitty was totally blocked and I never even saw that. Best of lock to you and your Kitties and understanding that maybe a different environment where they are solo might be best; I know that was Mieko's experience.
