J'ai chanté le "Stabat Mater" de Pergolèse à la chorale au collège dans les années 70. Notre professeur de musique était un homme formidable ! Il savait partager et transmettre sa passion et il nous faisait découvrir ce qu'il aimait. Il s'appelait Monsieur Bernard Canredon et, je souhaite à tous les élèves d'avoir un tel professeur. On donnait des concerts dans les églises, j'adorais ça et j'en garde un merveilleux souvenir. Cette version me plaît beaucoup, les deux solistes ont des voix magnifiques, surtout, la soprano qui a une voix d'ange. Ça ressemble beaucoup à celle que nous faisions, l'orchestre de chambre avait le même son, sauf, que c'était les chœurs qui chantaient le "fac ut ar", l'avant dernier couplet et nous faisions durer la note à la fin du "Amen" .

Je dis ma joie d'avoir découvert cette magnifique interprétation du Stabat Mater de Pergolèse. Quelle stature ! Belle retenue. Pudeur. Intériorité. C'est bien filmé. Le chef a l'air d'une montagne avec des ailes. Les solistes semblent sorties d'une représentation antique en Grèce. Quelle allure ! La pure musique, portée par un peuple musicien. Une merveille ! Je suis envoûté.

From the opening chords to the last- a wonderfully moving performance from the angelic voices of soloists and choir. If only Pergolesi hadn't died at the early age of 26(the same age as the English Romantic poet, John Keats), who knows what other treasures he could've composed? God bless the Armenian people and I will never forget the iniquitous genocide they suffered under Turkey in 1915, probably the first mass genocide in the twentieth century. Stand tall and proud, Armenia!!!

A quicker pace add to the vibrancy of this stellar perf... one of the best performances of this work I've ever heard.

G.B. Pergolesi wrote this masterpiece in a hurry in 1736, the same year of his death at the age of 26. It is said that he finished the work on the same day of his death. Congratulations to all these performers for their crystal clear sound and singing. Bravi!

I feel like this was his answer to Dixit Dominus, and I'd say he not only achieved what he was attempting, he surpassed the original in absolutely spectacular fashion.

Cette composition monumentale, a été écrite en 1736 dans les derniers jours de Giovanni Battista Pergolesi , qui disparut peu après avoir composé son œuvre. Témoignage de son talent, si spirituelle si musicale, celle-ci reste une référence incontestable jusqu'ici. Dernière œuvre du compositeur, qui meurt des suites d'une tuberculose à l'âge de 26 ans, elle est écrite pour deux voix chantées (traditionnellement soprano et alto, sans doute des castrats) et un petit ensemble instrumental de composition classique (premiers et seconds violons, alto, basse, basse continue). C'est aujourd'hui la composition la plus populaire de Pergolèse. L'œuvre est écrite pour soprano, alto, cordes et continuo. Elle a été à l'origine et pendant longtemps, chantée par des castrats, ou éventuellement des garçons sopranistes, l’Église interdisant le chant féminin dans les offices. Magnifique !

I am not religious at all, but the simplicity and the sincerity, without superfluous effects, seems to be as close as possible as this piece was wrote for. What a hauntingly beautiful performance of this work ... wonderful ensemble playing and singing -- the choir is wonderful. The soloists are superb (including the organ). The string trills at the start of the 2nd movement have the beauty of songbirds taking flight. The conductor gives such a beautiful shape to the whole piece: if diamonds were liquid and flowed in a dancing stream they would sound like this. All the best from Canada.
