update: the part where I was wondering if it was intended, it doesn't seem like it was as per Kasper's choreo kzread.info/dash/bejne/qIp5uc6OgcrNYdI.html (at 1:36). even though they're switching formations, the same leg kicks out. unless it was changed during the process :)

Ya ya it might've not been intended, but I observed that part a little bit more after u did in this video, and idk if it's supposed to be that way here but that outer end guys sync up more than the others, the middle end guys also sync up more, and as well as the most inner dancers. It looks like parallel syncing to me but I don't know if that's a thing JSPDF The whole shoulder movements tho are really all over the place, maybe they wanted that part to be more artistic individually? Who knows honestly 😂 Like u said, we just gotta respect itt.

Well you're right, but when I was analyzing it, it seems like they're in sync by mirroring themselves (left side with right side) because both sides does the same but it just looks messy (idk if you understand me haha). In the last course when all of the dancers are together it's in sync and it wasn't so messy anymore

Seeing it performed ‘clean’ and in sync in Kasper’s makes me appreciate some of the ‘messiness’ in the MV as keeping in with the themes of the song. I interpret the imperfect aspects as purposeful to the whole message 🙂

i think that this dance is not supposed to be all together to kinda of emphasize the “crazy” or “ chaotic” vibe that the mv gives as well if u look at the girls portion as well they seem to be rushing to catch up with taemin as well. i think this is all on purpose. also the dancer all have their different variations of the choreo as well. it did bother me as well at first. i’m a competitive dancer and i’m used to everything being synchronized…so it kinda threw me off too lol

I'm a dancer and studying dance, personally I don't think it's entirely on purpose. I think they had very little time to practice properly considering the difficulty of the choreography. As far as I know the song was finished very recently, a bit little after he changed his hair to what we see in this video. I definitely agree that the dancers are showing their individual colors in their execution, and I love that for them. I just think for a choreography like this they probably should've emphasized synchronization more, but I understand Taemin was due to go to the army right after he finished promoting it so maybe we'll get another performance of Advice in a future live concert 🥰

I think it was intended. In the hip hop genre, it's less cool to get it right. Taemin is a perfectionist, so if his team was wrong, Taemin would not have been able to accept it. Because he's the one who practices all night to create a perfect stage. And so are his dancers. (His dancers are talented and famous choreographers.)

It is difficult to dance like Taemin and difficult to be Taemin's dancer because he has his own movements so peculiar that they are unconventional to do or see in dancers and thanks to that he has the most unique choreographies, fast, powerful, smooth etc. and with so many artistic details and all with the same level of complexity and ADVICE was no exception. Taemin is a true King Dancer and a complete genre of dance, as well as musically and is more than proven.

Yeah, he said before in an interview that he uses his dancers according to the feeling and what the dance needs to represent. So in Move era it was more about sensuality, graceful but powerful movements. I noticed that in Advice, he uses the girls in the beginning where its fast but with more elegant movements, while in the second verse, we can hear a sound similar to a tapping, marking a rhythm with the piano in the background, and there he uses male dancers similar to a march.

About the other dancers, I think it's just a matter of individual style. In the case of the guys, you can see a lot of them (especially those who were at the front) doing different gestures and moving their head and legs differently even though the step was the same for everyone. It's kinda off putting at first because you end up noticing more of that than Taemin, but afterwards it's just interesting to watch how each of them dance differently. For the girls, I think they put more weight on synchronization. At points you can see them gesture differently as well, but it's hidden better because they try to keep Taemin in the spotlight. In the last chorus where all of them are dancing, they still dance with slightly different styles, but it still comes off as cleaner because of the number of dancers and the fact that the girls were positioned closer to the center.

I actually feel that he is so on another level in his dancing and the dancers are trying to keep up. I don’t mean that the dancers aren’t great but Taemin’s movement and rhythmical prowess is just superb. So I agree that the synchronisation is not 100%. Look at his subtle leg movements within the choreography while simultaneously hitting every beat and beautifully expressing the lyricism of the song at the same time in some of the moments in the performance. He is exceptional.

„If there was a concert it’s a finale” Definitely! Taemin’s performances have this grand feel to them, he and his choreographers create incredible spectacles! For me what’s so fascinating about Taemin and his dancing is how perfectly he positions his body literally every given second. Basically whenever you pause the video he always looks better than his dancers. Idk what it is but it’s like the aesthetic of his movements and his body line is just on another level of perfection… Also I noticed it a long time ago how he has this incredible sense of balance. Since I’m not a sucker for synchronization it doesn’t bother me as much when he and his dancers are not perfectly synchronized. In a way I find it even more satisfying cause it emphasizes the fact that he is the soloist and he is the main focus. I love your analysis, it’s always interesting to listen to your points. I think I like both per equal. Koharu really has a very distinctive and eerie style. She has influenced taemin in his dance style but same as kasper I found problems or things I don't really like in some of her choreos. Btw, Kasper style is more hip hop, urban and not so "artistic" in the aspect that Koharu seems to know more how to set the correct mood to the songs she choreographed. I like Koharu style more but until now I have liked the three choreos Kasper has made/helped to do. Advice is probably his best choreo to this day -of the ones I saw, obviously-.

RESPONSES TO YOUR POINTS/QUESTIONS: ー ー ー ー ー TIME & EFFORT ー ー ー ー ー Taemin has to be the single most hard working artist in the game. Many professionals and peers in the industry have complimented how he seems to still work even harder than junior rookies despite being 13 years into his career which is where you'd expect things to be taken more easily or get kinda stale/soft/dry. 2 groups, 1 solo career. Within less than 1 full year he gave us 4 top-tier features (Kid Milli, BoA, Wendy, Taeyeon), 1 commercial song, 1 OST, and 9 comebacks for a total of 6 albums with everything adding up to 57 songs overall. FIFTY SEVEN SONGS IN LESS THAN 365 DAYS WITH ALL OF TOP QUALITY. That's fucking insane. Majority of artists don't even do half of that within like 3 years or so of their careers and even Western mainstream artists still spend over 1 year promoting 1 album. While the general public to this day still hasn't even finished getting over Don't Call Me, SHINee already put out Atlantis then Taemin's Advice and now they even have another Japanese mini album on the way for July 28th so he really had to prepare this solo project in a tight crunch as a final parting gift for us fans. Advice is the only dance he's done in a long time that also only has 1 single choreographer credited which is Kasper who's worked closest with him since his solo debut and across the whole past year in everything else while additionally being occupied in doing stuff for other acts like Baekhyun and more as well. The song also came to him at the very last minute like a miracle when they were just about to postpone the album entirely since they couldn't find a perfect title track before then, so for us to get this type of quality through all of that pressure speaks volume about the artist we're working with here in terms of making the most out of anything. ー ー ー ー ー ANTI-SYNCHRONIZATION ー ー ー ー ー A Korean professional dance trainer of 15 years named Ruda Kris had a near frame by frame analysis of the choreo across all 3 of the music show stages (excluding Studio Choom cuz the full focus cams weren't out yet at the time) and he actually found it more refreshing that this performance wasn't so super synchronized, unlike what's become the norm in K-Pop, and that factor gave him a lot of nostalgia to old school hip hop dance crews which had the same structure so he thinks that's even cooler. Correct me if I'm wrong but many modern/underground dance crews are still like that too (obviously not like the Kinjaz/Poreotics/JustJerk/etc). He was also impressed in noticing that each stage in its entirety was different as Taemin and his dancers improved and changed little details over time. And like you noted: even though you can Pause at any frame and find everyone being "off" from one another, they still feel like a whole unit/team in Motion because their energy levels are altogether at the max (which seems to be the case where the current best and most popular choreographers and dance crew leaders in Korea most often work with Taemin to prove themselves and go all out too while dancing beside him whereas most other acts have like regular dancers and team members without the actual choreographers in it) so it's kinda dope to see "backup/background" dancers who are so often just used entirely as peripheral accents finally being able to step up and let loose in showing off their own unique styles too without necessarily taking any actual attention away from Taemin who's doing the absolute most himself in doing things differently from everybody else as well. I also personally find it sort of poetic that the visual concept of the song is so classy and clean-cut with the perfectly 50:50 split of black and white everywhere but then the performance and lyrics are so aggressive and "chaotic" as an ironic contrast which I'm pretty sure is the point ー ー ー ー ー ANTI-SYNCHRONIZATION ー ー ー ー ー Conclusion: TAEMIN is the solo King of K-Pop and the greatest performing artist of our generation. The industry themselves said it, not just us fans believe it or not. He's not called "the idol's idol" and "critics' favorite" for no reason.

Hey Jeff! I think the second chorus was intentional cause in the mv during the seconds verse and chorus you can see that Taemin is slowly getting crazier and crazier (the different taemins disappearing and appearing and him twitching(?) in the car) so the messy footwork would indicate the moment where he’s starting to lose his mind. I don’t really think Taemin would stand for sloppiness in his dancers that wasn’t purposeful. To me the dichotomy between the clean synchronization/formation and the seemingly free form interpretation of the choreo at times reflects Taemin’s duality that is often showcased in his music/MVs. I think some were intentional in the MV since Taemin said in the Behind "I should make my dance a bit more wild" He also said that it was 3 days since they practiced the choreo when they filmed the MV (i can't seem to find where he said this in a video but my TL was full of concern for him that time because he managed to practice the choreo in just 3 days since he's super busy) also in his flo interview he said that it took them less than a week to practice the choreography. A fan also pointed out that it seems like he finished this album in a span of 2 weeks which is insane based on his hairstyles during the recordings and shootings he done for Advice.

Hey Jeff , I think I can answer your question from part 12:14 , I think the reason the guys feet were not synchronize was because they had to make a way for some of the male dancers that was coming forward and also the ones that was moving back jus so no one will trip and fall

I feel like there were a lot of parts in the chore where the dancers were allowed/encouraged to execute the move as they saw fit, just because how different they look when you compare them to each other. I'm thinking specifically of the little walk they do towards the end of the chorus and especially the first time with the girls (0:53 in the MV, ps I love how the female dancer to the left does the move

This is the original choreography from his beyond live concert which I like the best. As far as his dancers go Taemin does choose the dancers he wants and most of the dancers in ADVICE are also in IDEA! As to the MOVE era because the choreographer was Japanese I would expect him to have Japanese dancers as well which he did. As far as the Choreo not being synchronize if you will as much as Taemin its a perfectionist if it was an issue for him it would’ve been corrected which leads me to believe that it was intentional.Always love your reactions 💓💓

From what I understand, this was Taemin's last album before going to army. Taemin wanted to try something totally new and gave his dancers much much more freedom than usual. In his previous albums, he made sure that all his dancers are all moving together as a unit. However, he wanted all dancers to show off their own vibe and feeling and this was the result.

Your WORDS! THANK YOU for not making stupid faces AND using such a beautiful vocabulary to describe art. He IS a conductor/composer and honestly I think, while everyone knows he's a great dancer, most people don't actually fully grasp what an artist he is on ALL levels. And so young! He's on such a trajectory... I truly hope he's not phased by his service. I wonder if he was so busy so that his body of work representing THIS stage in his life was well fleshed out. I think he's intelligent enough to have grasped that potential for coming back a changed person.

You say a lot in very few words. One thing is clear -- Taemin is extraoridnarily intelligent. I think he left for the army really shaken by the idea of losing his fans and his place in the music scene. But he is never scared of his challenges as an artist -- he will always have the soul of a creator rather than a star.

When some hoobaes wanna cover his dance, he always told them to put their own color into it. Taemin isnt really serious about synchronization if you ask me, and if you watch his concerts, their dancers always danced pretty different, unsynchronized and kinda improvised. I think its because he knew although they're professional dancers but also with various genres and skills, he didn't want to be bossy, or fussy about it. If this vid upset you, I dare you to watch Sexuality @ dream concert. OHMYGOD one of his dancers really hurt my feelings, he cant even keep up with the choreos 🤦‍♀️ but I'm quite used to it now. If Taem's okay with it, I'm all ok with it. His korean dancers are not bad though ... but I love his japanese dancers more. They're very artistic and super duper awesome.

I definitely think it's intentional that not everything is in sync. Besides it being hip hop the song is also about Taemin not doing what haters want him to do. He's listening to his own advice. So the fact that everyone is kind of dancing to their own beat definitely feels like an artistic choice. Especially since Taemin is such a perfectionist and all the dancers are professional as well

I think that it was intentional to emphasize the crazy aspect of the song. Or at least partially. But probably it's also because they didn't have much time to practice and make everything perfect. I noticed that too this time. The girls in particular were kinda messy. I think it's like the dancers were trying to catch up with him. Personally i think his movements were perfects all along... it's more the backup dancers

i remember on the video of the recording of the first verse, when the producer asked him what feeling he wants to convey, he insisted on the idea he had about people mumbling around him and how he is trapped into this, so i think the footwork, which seems messy its purposeful, there is this chaotic thing around him and he wants to break free. i can feel this frustration in the choreo, especially that footwork in the chorus. masterful

Personally, I feel that Taemin's dancers can never really keep up with him and that just shows how unique Taemin's dancing is. He dances like he weighs nothing (which he prob doesn't lol), but it's effortless for him. He dances like he's water. Maybe that's why it's easier for the female dancers to sync with him? Cause they're lighter and more flexible? Whereas his male dancers are a little bulkier so their movements are slowed down a little causing that delay. That's what came to mind anyway!

most of Taemin’s dancers are famous choreographers so I think the anti-synchronisation is entirely on purpose to interpret the crazy part of that particular verse imo Taemin’s a perfectionist & he wouldn’t have let a small mistake like this (if it’s not on purpose) go if he saw it trust me

They would've been perfect this and wouldn't drag the choreo down. They're always on point and their energy matched Taemin's. I hope after Taemin's discharge from enlistment, we get to see him perform with them again especially Advice. I would love to see it and to compare it with his Korean dancers.

Taemin's focus on synchronization has changed, since IDEA i think, Ive heard other ppl describe it as trying to transmit a style more alike to those of like, HipHop groups, where everyone just dances in their own style and not two dancers are perfectly synchronized, I think it must be a mixture between choice and just not having enough time to practice, cause the choreo got better the more they performed it too, he was very very busy. Also the theme of the song isnt clean at all, I actually prefer everything to be more erratic and unsynchronized, although its obviously subject to personal interpretation, It feels.. "dirtier?" less polished and just right for Advice's theme. There's a dance cover of IDEA that I would say is a lot more synchronized than Taemin's own renditions and arguably more enjoyable if the idea is to make the dancers seem like a part of Taemin's body, it works to make them be super synchronized and not to stand out and let Taemin be the most important part. Apparently for IDEA it was important for him to make the dancers keep their own styles, so as to transmit a merging of different ideas or smth? Thematic stuff. But in Advice they seem more like, underlings? Under Taemin who is the bid bad villian, so having them unsynchronized, as too give them some kind of identity makes it feel more complete, to me at least, it's an interesting thing, dance is art after all, and there's a lot of different ways to see it, his dancers are proficient enough that if the most important thing was to be as synchronized as possible i'm sure they could achieve it, but we can never actually know for sure. They had like a month to prepare the whole thing after all.
