Perfect Your Vocals with Pitch Edit

Музыка

For More Information about Reason:
www.propellerheads.se/reason
Often times perfect vocal takes aren't captured, so much as they're crafted. The exactitude in modern recording technology from pitch perfect synths to quantized MIDI sequences has placed responsibilities on vocalists and producers to match that meticulous level of precision in their audio tracks as well. Now, thanks to Pitch Edit mode in Reason 9 meticulous doesn't have to mean tedious or difficult. In a special Reason 9 tutorial, we'll walk you through the basic process of taking a vocal by our own in-house resident untrained singer, Ryan, and getting his potential up to match the rest of the song.
Throughout this tutorial you'll get a basic walkthrough of Pitch Edit, its various workflows, and how to take the techniques you learn here and apply them to your own music, creativity, and advanced experimentation if you want to dive deep.

At 8:45 Frank says that to shift the slice marker between two notes you must hold down ALT in Windows - but actually you have to hold down CTRL... ALT gives you a speaker-icon when held over a note and gives you a two-way arrow when held on a slice marker, but you cannot drag the slice markers with ALT held down.

Thank You, Thank You, Thank You. To be truly honest, I don't know what else I been doing to perfect my vocal, which I was really never satisfied. I can say this morning, I am over the top pleased to hear how smooth my vocal have become trying this one thing & so I say thank you again. I Have previously learned in time; different situations to perfect my music from many people, However, this lesson was huge to me, because I could never pin point, what was a major factor I was missing. I know this is just 1 accomplishment out of the number of skills in tricks to learn, it just takes certain factors for me to know I found exactly what I needed, or a certain individual (like yourself) to explain a certain type of way. With that being said. I have subscribed & will be looking forward to your videos. Blessings!

That's so great to hear Bryan! I'm glad it's working for you. I had a similar experience when I learned and developed these techniques originally. As you say there are many skills to learn along the way but some of them help you level up faster in achieving the sound you want and this process was definitely one of those moments for me too, which is why I was eager to share it with everyone. I'm glad you're finding it useful. Take care! /ryan

HEY RYAN!! Oh wow! you actually reply to my comment! Such an awesome dude! So after I have downloaded the new version of Reason and mess around with pitch edit a little bit with my current work, I was totally loving it! However, because this new tool is SO POWERFUL, I just thought that there's tons of possibilities with pitch edit. Such as the way we use edit drift, slice marker and stretch in Pitch Edit, maybe we can have some tutorials on how to use these functions more as an 'effect'. Such as how we can possibly use it to spice up vocals rather than just fix it. I thought this would be cool since I pretty much stop using Neptune as a method for me to fix vocals. Another idea would be how we can use the functions of Pitch Edit to create natural harmonies for your vocals (thought there are rack extensions that do that). That be great for people who want to create a gospel influenced record but lacking the men / women power to do so. Or maybe a tutorial on how we can use Pitch Edit to fix live instruments, or simply spice things up! Such as for guitars or horns. Just ideas. Great job with the new updates on Reason 9 though! You guys are amazing! Sometime I wish i can work for ya'll :)

Thanks for the feedback and I'm glad you're enjoying Reason 9! /ryan

Not happy saying that it looks less complicated than Melodyne, and for some reason Pro Tools still doesn't have something like this included.

It compares quite well to Melodyne Assistant (despite the lack of polyphonic audio). But yeah, it's super easy to use!

@ReasonStudios, Could you add in the description the links to videos related to the other methods for perfecting vocal recordings mentioned in this video? Comping and slice edit? Thanks!

Although it's a great feature, I would like a revamp of this tutorial for Reason 11.

Please add key scales. So if I’m attempting to sing in A minor. Only those keys will show up in pitch edit

This is very interesting.. the visual really suits how it sounds, flat is flat. Its kind of subtle though. I think it would be interesting to see how people tune things drastically and make that 'watery' distorted obvious autotune kind of sound? I guess you just move those blue notes around a bunch more then the distortion would happen? 10:26 cool!! So that's how they did it
