JB-You saved my skateboarding journey. When the gyms closed during Covid, I picked up a skateboard that was sitting around my brother’s garage. I’ve been riding consistently ever since. I’ve picked up some tricks along the way and started riding transition. The goal was a proper BS 50/50 by 50. At 49 years old, with the help of watching your videos over and over, I have gotten a few 50/50s in actual bowl runs. I can’t thank you enough, and this video allows me to throw a bit more gratitude and praise your way. I’ve been battling the Ollie since the day I found that board in my brother’s garage. I actually considered quitting a few weeks before this video because I was so frustrated with the Ollie. I’ve had to of topped 10,000 attempts. I made it over 4 boards at one point, but the Ollie was never controlled or consistent. They always were a prayer, and I guess even the controlled Ollies are still a form of prayer, but that’s a whole other conversation. The rolling instead of dragging has been a huge difference maker. I always turned the board heel side, and I think that focusing on it being a roll of the ankle, rather than a drag has made a huge difference. Also, tightening the trucks made the timing more consistent. It’s really starting to FEEL like an Ollie. Slow is smooth, and smooth is fast. Thank you, and never stop making these videos.

This video is full of great advice. I had built up a pretty good ollie over the summer up curbs to about say 8" approximately but then when I returned to Japan I just seemed to lose it, so what I found was exactly as stated in this video, reduce the power and concentrate on foot set up, and now it's slowly becoming consistent again over one 8" board's height. Not gonna win any awards but at 40 years old I'm happy with my progress :) I only want to ollie enough to get up on a ledge anyway.Gonna try tightening my trucks tomorrow just to see what effect that has, as I ride them loose too for transition.

I had to come back to this since after seeing this and your other older ollie videos, my ollies improved so much. My foot placement was off before as well as me not bending my knees much when I start the ollie. I also had my foot flat and not really aligned with each other so that also caused some issues. After addressing all those thanks to your videos, my ollies are way more better and look more fluid! Now it's just practice and getting them down while moving too. Thank you so much for these videos, I really love how you teach every aspect. Ended up having so much momentum after doing the ollies I just kept practicing and practicing. Ended my weekend on a very good note!

Love your videos man I've got my son to watch to try improve his basics I'm not as experienced as I'd not skated in 27yrs when he asked if I'd get a board an skate with him. I was never too good as a kid but my ollies were solid as I was a send it down stair sets type. I've landed a few healflips this summer but still can't kickflip I'm closer to a tre than a kickflip

@@SkateparkLessons thanks man, as usual this was the little golden advice I needed. I definitely wasn't bending my legs enough when landing and it's made a huge difference. The biggest thing though is not trying to hard.. it reminded me of when I played football (soccer) as a kid, I could always curve the ball into the box perfectly, unless I tried to kick too hard and all of my technique went to poop. Felt like I leveled up again last night, thanks again dude

Great work Micheal! I loved the encouragement from the father. So awesome. I have a little technique that I found to help my ollie. I dont push straight down when I pop, like Ive been told. I found that when I pop, I like to push the tail back and down, which brings the board up to my foot. rather than 90 degrees straight down I like 45 degree back. try it out, and as your coach what he thinks of that. JB is the best coach out there, so trust what he tells you. JB, I would love to find your cheat code for you ollie. They are so crisp, clean, and powerful. I dont know if Im gonna be able to skate long enough to really lock it down, because Im starting to get arthritis in my feel. Im 48 and I picked it back up and practiced hard regularly the last couple years, and now I think I went too hard. You have helped me immensely, and I want you to know I really do appreciate you, being out there so often teaching this skill to all walks of life. Its clear you put your heart into this. Thank You. Ps. I was looking at the cars in the lot and was like that has to be JB's van. Am I right or am I right? 😆 🛹💙

Please clarify what do mean at 8:45 saying "try not to ollie downhill (or downheel?) 'cos it can steel your pop".. Also your student and many many more ollie practicing novice guys do not throw up the front hand, seems that front hand staying down (while the back hand is almost always rised) eats much of amplitude
