Wow! Just how long did that restoration really take?!!! Fun to watch. Didn’t realize how long it was until I was half way in and had to see the end. I remember my mom had a GE washer when I was little that had the florescent backlight. It had a bunch of pink lever switches to select the water temps, extra rinse and stuff and one marked “suds saver” that I think reused the wash water by pumping it into and back out of the second basin in the laundry tubs.

Very cool! I love when these gems are saved instead of scraped, abt the onoy one you can buy these days made as well as these is a Speed Queen, no even sure it is as good as these but after having several crap, various manufacturers, just yesterday bought a Speed Queen washer, so excited

It's rare that a Dependable Care machine needs more than a belt set or an injector hose. :)

I’m so proud to see this great appliance lovingly restored. Oh the simplicity. Sure won’t be doing this in 40 years for today’s stuff! Eugene if I had five thumbs they’d all be up!! 😊😊

Indeed, this machine was definitely the end of an era for sure when things were made in america and people took pride in what they did, now it's a race to the bottom to see how cheap they can build it and what kind of profits they can make when they dupe unsuspecting buyers into spending $1000 on junk only to find out it only lasts about 5 years and theres little to no help from the manufacturer once it dies so you have no choice but to junk it and buy new

@@jhomrich89 I don't know if I can quite agree with that. Mom had this Maytag machine for years (was my grand mother's). Then she upgraded in the early 80's to the new model, while keeping the matching dryer. The washer lasted us 30 years. She was meticulous when she researched. I learned and bought a used mid 80's refresh version of her machine for $200 after moving out. It lasted me 10+ years. When the transmission died, the repair man said he had a used early 90's version of the same machine for $175. I've been rockin' that machine since 2008. The parts of these machines were definitely made to last! Just bought a new-to-me home and it came with a vintage 80's model like my mom had. I may be good for another 20 years 😂years.

There is simply no better washer than a Maytag Dependable Care machine. Thank you for restoring this beautiful machine.

I love the blood pressure cuffs to get the agitator off. I broke an agitator trying to get it off. [sigh] It was black with the stainless steel lint screen and fabric softener dispenser.

now thats what I call watching a classical Opera of "Repair Of A Washing Machine" its a five star to me.

Amazing job as always! I’d rather pay a premium price for a refurbished machine from you over a cheap hunk of plastic HE washer that’ll only last for a year!

Came across this video trying to troubleshoot our Maytag A102 washer that has been in continuous use since 1965! It just started squeaking on and off during agitation this year, i.e. in its 59th year of service. Local appliance repair companies have told me they aren't able to repair machines of this vintage. So frustrating. Would love to find such a skilled repairman as this one. What a beautiful job!

Likely yours just needs belts. Veery available. No tools necessary. Tilt machine back to lean on wall and replace 2 belts. Repair places that have been n business for 40 years or more will gladly work on it

@@sugrue8526 Thanks for your reply. At the moment it's behaving well, but if the noises start up again I will try changing the belts as you suggest. We will continue to use this machine as long as it keeps working!

The restorer of this machine is a true artist. I never expected to have such spiritual joy over the new life that was given to this machine, which is also a creation of true artists. They would be proud of this work.

This is amazing. I would gladly pay a bunch for one of these reliable machines. I swapped out a newer Samsung HE top loader (wouldn’t spin properly) for a 1980s pre-Whirlpool Maytag for $80 and its the best money I’ve ever spent. It runs like a dream! This one probably will last at least another 60 years with this painstaking restoration. So much more worthwhile than $1200 for a piece of modern junk!

@@blkpopeye Yeah a lot of modern machines are a joke compared to grand old Pre-HE machines which used the exact amount of water needed, washed well, lasted absolutely ages, and all! My grandfather was lucky with his LG... It's an F1222TD and still working so far after 10 years but not every LG lasts that long before going badly wrong. I guess because my family's in England and his washer is an english model it's better but it doesn't compare to a 40 year old machine or something that has lasted at least 20 years or more without going horribly wrong.

Eugene....I have to hand it to you....You sold me after that over haul of the Maytag....When I'm ready I'm buying a vintage washer and dryer from you!! I live in Conn. Your 8 1/2 hrs away....I know Quality work and that's Loraine furniture and Appliance.... Thank You Eugene for such Awesome vidio !!!

The sad thing is, a couple years back, Eugene would record his restore of a great vintage washer and then offer it up on youtube to someone in the comments...for free. And right when I discovered his videos, I fell in love and went to his shop and talked to him and it was right at the time that he decided to stop doing the free giveaway because the winners wouldn't come to pick up the washers that he recorded himself refurbishing to new for free. Just maddening.

It's like watching a painter creating a piece of artwork! 😁😁🙏

First time I saw the inside of the helical transmission! That was some serious dedication work!

This video had me in complete awe; it was like watching a child grow. Once he finished the machine and we saw it in all of its original glory, my first thought was, "It's too beautiful to use". Breathtaking!

Compared to machines of today, those machines were almost a work of art. It's great to see someone making sure they stick around for another 50 years or so.

Outstanding use of of classical music. I just cheered for a frickin' washing machine!!! HE modern machines can't compare. They'll be dead in 5 years. This makes me want to do a load of laundry and it's 3 am as I type this. BRAVO!!!

Whoever buys that machine will get a great deal. Nobody will be seeing one of those LG washers sold today working in 40 years. That style machine goes back to the 60's, i've seen them much older. I knew someone who still had and used their grandparents maytag washer and dryer from the late 50's. Grandparents bought them for the new house back then. Even old whirlpool/Kenmore units hold up very well.

UnFreaking-believable! That guy knows his machine inside and out. Back in the 80's I use to fix copiers. I use to rebuild a very popular machine that same way. It was the Royal 115. I stripped it down to the frame and did the same thing he did. Boy, I miss that. This was a real joy to watch. Brought back lot of memories!

We have & still use, a 43 year old Maytag washer/dryer set we purchased the year we got married - 1980 - that we use regularly. There have been no major problems - just a few minor things that failed - like a water supply hose, the burner in the dryer, and a couple of small things. I think that this set so fit the ads "The Maytag repairman is the loneliest job in the world!" I have to teat it apart & clean it up just like you did. Thanks for the video, I'll take my laptop with me for guidance. Thanks!

Working with my dad we mostly had belt drive Whirlpool/Kenmores. Did a few motor roller kits on these. Always impressed with the simplicity and durability of the design. Nice job!

These are beautifully built machines. Well worth the time to repair and save. I own a 1984 set of Maytags. I’ll keep them forever if possible.

Wow, outstanding! I was waiting for the panel light to come on at the end 🤓. This makes me miss my good ol’ A606 even more, nothing fancy but a great reliable hard working machine.

That is a gorgeous piece of machinery! Very well restored.

The BEST machines ever! They worked so well and the backlit control panel was a great idea. They also had an effective lint filter which kept lint from going down the drain and clogging it. These machines were so well made.

I am in COMPLETE AWE of your knowledge and restoration craftsmanship of these classic beauties! I'm 57 years old and my mom purchased a similar Maytag washer and its matching dryer back in 1970 in avocado green and it faithfully washed the clothes of us 5 kids along with my parents clothes. I inherited it when she passed away in 1987 and it continued going strong washing the clothes of my family of 6 until the transmission died and it no longer would stop at the end of each part of the wash cycle. The dial would move but the washing continued and would not stop to empty the wash water. I was sad to see it hauled away in 1999 after 31 years of hard use. I purchased a Kirkland Signature toploader washer made by Whirlpool at Costco. While its capacity was far larger, it only lasted 10 years before it rusted out at the bottom where the drum's springs attached to the base. Its replacement lasted only 5 years. I now own a 2004 toploader Kenmore (made by Whirlpool) which was used (6 years) when I acquired it, and thankfully it's going strong and has had only a couple of repairs done by my husband. I will never get rid of it. However, after watching a couple of your videos as well as a couple other channels that feature these workhorse classics, I am tempted to go retro and get one of them myself. They are the classic muscle cars of appliances!

So amazing to watch the FULL disassembly of that machine!! I thought he was only going to spray the oil off the fears but he went right in there and took them all out. So cool!!

Been everywhere you went on that thing, my complements to you on a job well done. You're a man after my own heart when you applied sound deadening! Isn't it amazing how simple and well built these machines are? Hands down the best washer ever built!

I loved watching this. I just aquired a 1983 Maytag washer (LA511) and dryer (LDE410.) They use the same drive train that yours does. I didn't have the tools to pull the transmission out, but I did clean every inch of the machine before I installed them in my house. They are fantastic machines. Too bad they are cheaped out Whirlpools, now.

I going to repeat a word that been used several times already - AMAZING job! I do restorations of Maytag wringer washers from the 1930s - models A, 30, and 32 - but they are very simple in comparison to an automatic. I can appreciate the amount of work and pride that goes into a restoration like this! Some lucky owner is going to be extremely happy - machines like this are worth restoring and keeping!

That's a really nice A808. Whenever I see an old Newton Iowa Maytag washer on the curb I grab it. I have rebuilt, refurbished many of these washers over the years. I got started in appliance repair when the "08" series washers came out, and became a Maytag dealer myself. Still using an A406 washer that I rebuilt in 1979 in our home. Still have many customers who do not want to part with their old Maytags. BDS Laundry , a good source for parts for the Newton Maytags. Enjoyed the video.

As long as you can get the items for replacement this is a no brainer. I have worked on dozens of washers/dryers over the years and my oldest is the 37 year old Maytag combo, that I purchased my -first- home,... that I still own. The problem I see now is too many people want the Shineys and they pay for it in break downs. I've saved over 3 grand over the years making sure that they run right.

I don't know how I ended up here. But two good things, I own a pair of wash/dryer machines from Maytag and second the mechanic repair guy is amazing. I know who to call...

Mo had that model when I was a kid...59 now. The best machine she ever had. After it went, about 18 years, when Best Buy and Circut City made their cameo, she went to a mid level frigidaire, with a plastic tub. She was had...! Do you own Lorain's? You have awesome tech knowledge. Or do you just do repairs? If you sell and do repairs, both, kudos! A real pro. I have done both only in the HVAC and Interior Design fields. Have had my own biz for 30 + years, ans have never worked a day in my life. That's how much I love what I do. I bet you are the same. We are a dying breed! More Power to both of us. I have an old 37 year old whirlpool that is still going strong. Yes, I have really taken care of it all these years. Almost no parts replaced over the years and have done all the work myself. It is a shame that these machines are not still made...Speed Queen still makes a good entry level. I will buy one when the time for replacement comes around.

This is the first time I saw the works on the inside of a Maytag.Or any washer as a matter of fact) I'm happy that there's someone that truly appreciates older machines. Excellent . A labor of love.

Such fond memories. When you cracked open the transmission, I could smell the gear oil.I started doing these kind of refurbishes for my dad when I was 10 yrs old !Wire wheel the legs, clean the bases, just go through them top to bottom. Remember the Highlander models that you removed the back instead of the front panel ? They had rebuildable pumps in them. I used to rebuild the brake packs in these machines, I never understood why, they all got soaked in transmission oil and didn't work anyway. Today, you can't even get decent replacement parts for them. The center assemblies and tub bearings are junk, and any of the machines with the orbital transmission probably have a rusted outer tub. Such a shame...

Strangely calming & beautiful!

My Mom had the same set from the 60s to 1988. It would not spin or drain water. They were replaced with new Kenmore set that lasted from 1988 to 2005. Our old Maytag set was teal where this is gold. She always said that no washer could get her clothes as clean as her old Maytag did.

Great overhaul of a well made machine. Hush kit was a good idea.
