Tip: It's better to use a simple syrup solution instead of granulated sugar in this cocktail... the reasoning is that there are no hot liquids in this drink that will fully dissolve the sugar in the liquid, so using simple syrup will prevent any granular sugar texture in the drink. Also, when you're muddling the mint leaves, you definitely don't want to "bash" them... the idea is to gently bruise the leaves just enough so that they release their natural oils (the source of the mint flavor/aroma)... "bashing" the leaves will tear them and cause bitter compounds to get released into your drink, which is game over.
