PERFECT HiFi Amplifier ? German Physiks Emperor EXTREME

In this video I am reviewing the German Physiks Emperor Extreme Integrated HiFi Amplifier which is exactly that a large 300watt into 8 ohms, 600 watts into 4 ohms £33,500 Integrated Amplifier. This is a seriously powerful, seriously expensive, seriously large and seriously good HiFi Amplifier, it might even be a perfect integrated amplifier.

    Focus more emphasis on money spent on loudspeakers not amplifiers. It's the loudspeakers that is the most critical component that delineates an audio system's transparent musical accuracy. This amplifier will give egotistical owners bragging rights. Which to them is more important than sonic accuracy.

    Seriously Terry you've got to get a Michi S5 in there for a listen ID be so interested to hear your thoughts. Not because I own one but really the bass control there is amazing for an amp a fraction of the price of that particular one. If I had one criticism it's the self-advertisement on the top a little cheap looking for me but I'm splitting hairs now.

    @@shanestephenson8423 First focus of any audio system reasonably should be the loudspeakers. No matter if it's a budget or extraordinary expensive audio system. It's the loudspeakers that entails the sonic characteristics of any system. This is particularly the case from an engineering perspective. The loudspeakers must convert an electrical signal that does not have inertia to a device that has mechanical inertial impedance. Taking the ridiculous to the sublime to emphatically express my point. How would these exorbitantly cost electronic components sound with mediocre speakers.

    At its price range there's some serious competition. Its power is quite impressive, which leads me to believe is a class AB amp. The website avoids the classification, probably not to turn off those who prefer pure class A amps. I'm sure it's a fantastic amp. I personally, prefer a tube pre-amp, with a solid state seperate class A amp. Thanks Terry

    Hello David, When I wrote the text for the Emperor integrated amplifier web site I omitted to mention the output stage classification as it did not occur to me that it was necessary. It was not done in order to try to hoodwink potential customers. Someone who is seeking a class A amplifier will find out what type of output stage the Emperor has at some point prior to making their purchase, so whether earlier on when reading the web page, or later from the dealer, they will not buy it. A class A amplifier is typically around 25% efficient, so if you see an amplifier with a high continuous output rating that does not have large and obvious heatsinks, it is almost certainly not class A. All the best.

    hi about lepy lp 2020a i plugged in correctly turning the volume up i heard a buzzing sound in speakers and the volume kept going off then on when i increased the volume from the amp now one of my speakers has stopped working what caused this before i used the amp i could turn the volume up on the speaker all the way and it was clear sound also could it have been the underpowered power supply that it came with some people recommend a 6amp power supply. i also used presonus eris e4.5 studio monitors 75w with the amp also is using a amplifier with studio monitors dangerous because the studio monitor has a built in amplifier. and the amp is 20w and the speakers are 75w could it be because the speakers are more powerful.

    Great review. This amplifier looks very nice a strong industrial design. Looking at the internal pics it appears to be a duel mono design however it only has one single large power transformer so not quite a duel mono design on the power supply. Rated at 300watts into 8 Ohms is more than enough power and it doubles down nicely to 600Watts into 4 Ohms this should be enough power to get a firm grip on any large base driver, however the Gryphon Diablo 300 is also rated at 300watts into 8 Ohms and can handle a 2 Ohm load pulling a massive 950watts (unsure how long for) so may have even more grip and may work better with more difficult to drive speakers? Its unclear what the power supply capacity is of the Emperor? The Gryphon Diablo has 2 banks of 68000 uF capacitance so huge reserves to handle large dynamic shifts in the music with ease. It would be interesting to listen to them side by side.........

    It doesn't matter how superlative astounding a preamplifier and/or power amplifiers are vaunted. Without an exceedingly transparent neutral musically accurate loudspeaker what difference does it make how fabulous the amplifier. Give me the YG Acoustics Anat III Signature with comparable components. Such as the Veloce preamp, Krell 402 amplifier. And yes Kubala Sosna Elation cables to drive the YG Acoustics Anat III Signature with the precise electric signal from the power amp. Keep your money from spending on outer galactic astronomical cost amplifiers. Place your focus and relish the world's most accurate loudspeakers available.

    at this price, you can get a lot of great separates, also the slogan "High End Technologies" can come off as tacky (to me, putting the words "high end" on the units themselves is just a bad move all around). Also the trend in high end integrated amplifiers seems to be an "all-in-one" package giving you DSP integration as well like the Technics SU-R1000 which has been praised significantly for it's sound stage and superior DSP capabilities. Integration is all about convenience so it's important that everything integrate properly with as few "steps" as possible. Another big issue with this, it has no subwoofer outputs. Serious Audiophiles are finally realizing no matter how big and mean your speakers are, 1 or 2 good "low to the ground" subwoofer(s) will always expand the base response of your stereo imaging more then just having a single set of speakers, even if the speakers can move down to 20hz.

  • @mab7175

    @mab7175

    2 жыл бұрын

    I disagree. Don't write your assertion in stone....."always expand the bass response of your stereo imaging"??? You overlooked the significance for seamless sonically integrating multiple speakers. Furthermore, the long wave length in the lower frequencies results in imagery less critical than the upper bass to the lower midrange. Doubling and tripling harmonic resonances from low end loudspeakers is the proverbial villain. If you don't believe me ask accomplished bass fiddlers. That peculiarly unique heavenly "air" sound emanating throughout a room from a bass fiddle places intricate demands on loudspeakers to reproduce that sonic affect with musical accuracies.

    Fascinating but not really anything most British hi fi enthusiasts need, unless your super high end and can therefore afford to heat a room large enough to warrant these power levels. I'm pretty sure most people looking at over 30K for amplification would expect to be buying a preamp and at least a pair of power amps - I doubt the market for an integrated amp at this price is more than a handful of rich elites? Thanks for the insight into a world I'll never know. I personally prefer to hear about equipment I might at least aspire to own one day, but the odd peer into this rarefied insanity is at least entertaining.

    To be worth while, it would have to have very good integrated DSP like a higher end version of the Technics SU-R1000 (what I'd consider to be the best all around Integrated Amplifier on the market right now); a high-quality all-in-one package that does everything someone needs to get good sound in one box without needing more "links in the chain".
