Perfect Greek Coffee in 3 Minutes ! Quick How To Guide

Ойын-сауық

Original Greek Coffee
Step By Step Guide On How To
Make A Traditional Coffee From Greece.
Equipment:
- Gas Source
- Small Coffee Pot (called a "Briki")
- Greek Coffee Cup (or Espresso Cup)
Instructions:
Pour a full coffee cup of water into the briki. Add 1 teaspoon of sugar and 1 heaped teaspoon of Greek coffee. Place the briki on the gas and turn on so that it is on low heat. Very slowly let the coffee heat up (keep the flame very low). Do not leave the coffee unattended ! You will slowly see the surface start to tremble. Once it starts foaming, lift it slightly from the heat until the foam/bubbles settle and then put it on the fire again and let it start foaming and puffing up (this step is important to get a good Greek Coffee). Then remove. You don’t want to let it over-boil otherwise it will not have that creamy/foam on top ! Serve in the coffee cup. Serve the cup on a small saucer with a glass of cold water.
Enjoy !

    I'm in love with Greek Coffee. I got to know it in a cafe in the small village where I stayed while I was on a field trip on Rhodes. After the field trip was over I had three days left for vacation and went to Rhodes City, where I discovered this small spice shop which was also selling Brikis and Greek Coffe, which was freshly ground on site. Of course I bought some. I can order the Loumidis coffee online in my country, but I still want to go back to that little shop someday and get some coffee from them. Oh, in contrast to your video I'm drinking my Greek Coffe "sketo" (I think that was the word? I can't speak Greek, so...). Is this acceptable? :D

  • @DonGizzle615

    @DonGizzle615

    Yes, absolutely acceptable ! 😉 I like my greek coffee "métrio" (with a little bit of sugar). Your "skétto" (yes, that was the word 👍) means without sugar and "glíko" is with a lot, a whole lot. Hope you can manage to go back to that nice little shop someday ! So... thank you very much for this lovely comment.

    Yes, exactly. The coffee powder stays at the bottom of your coffee cup. You don't drink the powder, you stop and leave the rest in your cup. It tastes like sand, you'll notice it. Also, after pouring the greek coffee into your cup, let it settle down for a minute or two before drinking.

    ... get a "small pot" ! 😃 Nah for real, you really need a so called "briki" (the pot) in order to get a real nice creamy greek style coffee. Otherwise, i don't know... i don't think it will ever really work with your sauce pan. You can try it with very low heat and as soon as the foam lifts, as you see little bubbles, lift it of the heat and then put it back on the heat and repeat it 2 to 3 times. Good luck 😉 !

  • @DonGizzle615

    @DonGizzle615

    What's important is: if you use more water (a bigger cup), then you also have to equally add more sugar and coffee ! Your cup is three times as big as mine in this vid ? Triple the amount of the other components. Often times it also helps to just ad a little more coffee powder, in order to get a good foamy cream on top. Also don't boil it ! If it stars to boil and you start to see little bubbles coming up, lift the saucepan from the flame, turn the flame down a little, put tha pan back on it, let it start to foam again. Repeat this 2 to 3 times and there should be a nice cream on top. Remember, no boiling, avoid boiling bubbles. This procedure needs some practice so... good luck and have fun !

Put it all together and stir it about 8 times on the counter and then put it on the range and take it off right with it starts to foam but don't let it foam all the way. This is how my Greek yiayia from Greek showed me how to make it.

    Imo calling Turkish coffee Greek is cultural appropriation, Turkish coffee has been consumed by Turks for hundreds of years, even when it was banned for the common folk, our palaces had copper and goldware for coffee making and we still make copper coffee pots "cezve" still to this day. Please don't appropriate Turkish culinary, thank you.
