    Thank you for the review - and the referral of the BUBM accessory cases. You are quite correct that the manufacturer needs to to a better job with its web site (product detail). It helped me decide to purchase the 450 vs the ThinkTank Airport Commuter (the 450 is fully lockable). Recommend that viewers set the playback speed to .75 - makes it much easier to keep up with the detailed narration.

    I went from a $50 Canon backpack to the lowepro bag. With my canon backpack I had more small compartments then the lowepro. The thing that made the lowepro much better is the mounting system on the outside of the bag & all the smaller bags you can buy!

    Have watched many reviews done by many self styled psuedo professionals about this bag and others bags like 350 and 350 II. But unfortunately none of them have given me exact idea until I stumbled on you video. This is the best and simplest review ever of 450 II. Thank you very much. I am not a professional photographer but an avid enthusiast and doing photography since film role days. My gear is not much, a D7000 with vertical grip, nikon 14_140mm 70_200mm nikon, 300mm nikon flash some trigger and was wondering if protactic 350II could hold my gear. But nobody has given any precise video about it. I was discouraged by shallow depth of it which is 180mm if not wrong.I shall be grateful if you could do a review on 350II.

    Hi, Thanks for your kind comment it's appreciated. I do also have a ProTactic 350 AW (not sure if it is I or II). I may not have time for a while to do a full review of it but I've just measured the INTERNAL depth (pointing up as you lay the bag on its back) and it is more like 140mm, and less if you put a laptop in the lid. You are correct in that the EXTERNAL depth is about 180mm. Hope that helps you and best of luck with your photography. Dave

Nice that there's no flash bang wallop I'm at you guys! There were a couple of the smaller bags that you used a small one in the main compartment alongside the BUBM ones and then another in the slip pocket, can you provide a link please?

    Hi John, the small grey bag just behind the orange divider is actually an Aputure AL-M9 light (bag comes with it). The bag that went in underneath that is a Peak Design bag that came with another product (camera strap I think) I keep the rode mic dead cat in it to stop the fluff getting everywhere. So neither are linkable as bags I’m afraid. The Neewar bag going into the large slip pocket is just a cheap filter case I’ve had for ages so plenty around similar or better. I’m really glad you liked the video though I try to keep reviews as detailed as possible as I know that’s what I’m looking for 😀. Dave

    I really enjoyed the detailed video. Quick question: Would you recommend this bag to someone who frequently travels by air? I’m concerned about its size and weight. While the dimensions might meet FAA guidelines, the bag's weight of over 2.5 kilos is a significant concern, especially since most airlines have a limit of 6-8 kilos.

    Nerves got the better of me when I flew to Sweden to a company event in 2023 where I was filming, so I took my smaller 350 Pro-Tactic. Which was very tight for space. Last year in 2023 I travelled with it to another company event and after thoroughly checking the rules I took the 450 and it was accepted for travel and fitted in the overhead lockers ok. It will definitely NOT fit under seats and I was careful on the weight focusing on the expensive , lower weight and bulkier items. I also removed the waist band and put that in my hold luggage which saves a little weight. Of course different airlines have different policies (or officious staff on the day) so its always a risk they could insist on it going into the hold at the last minute. An alternative is to check the multi bag policy and have two bags since I find something like the LowePro slingshot is more functional for day trips so I often take that along as well anyway.

    Thanks glad you liked it. Still using and enjoying the Pro Tactic. It’s a bit big occasionally so I also bought the slingshot which I also reviewed. Together they work quite well with the 450 carrying the full kit when we go away then a subset of it fits in the Slingshot for walks etc.

  • @fredventure

    @fredventure

    @@DTSquared Thanks for the reply! Yeah, because the only thing I think I'd miss with the 450, is the extra pockets (space / room). When out traveling, it would be nice to have a room to put stuff (like a book, thin rain jacket, etc). Have you been missing that?

  • @DTSquared

    @DTSquared

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@fredventure I mainly use the slingshot for short trips/walks where I know what the weather is likely to be. There’s enough space in it for a pack away rain coat etc (if you don’t fill it with camera gear). It’s a different bag entirely really. I use the 450 if I’m filming an event and likely to need more gear. I have used the 450 for a day trip around Cambridge for a specific planned shoot where I had a Ronin gimbal in the bag and a couple of lenses etc. etc. it definitely does the job when you need it.

    Hi. I read on a site that it's 24l capacity.

  • @DTSquared

    @DTSquared

    2 жыл бұрын

    Interesting was that the manufacturer’s site? I just now did a very quick measurement of the internals which is 32cm x 45cm x 16cm which works out at 23,040cm2 or just over 23lt. But those are the maximum dimensions and don’t allow for the fact that the base and top are both curved and so the actual volume will be less. For the video I actually purchased a big bag of polystyrene beads and filled it up with a 1lt measuring jug which took 18 fills of the jug so 18 lts. Whilst not a perfect measurement it’s certainly better than just taking those max internal dimensions which I suspect is what the other site may have done. Or of course they could be adding up all the accessory bags as well.

    Wondering how you would board a flight with this bag. Nowadays many airlines have a 7kgs hard stop for handcarry...

  • @DTSquared

    @DTSquared

    2 жыл бұрын

    Funnily enough I initially looked at the 450 but bought the 350 instead for that exact reason because we were about to fly to NewYork. That was five or six years ago and at the time I kicked myself because it certainly looked like I would have gotten away with the 450 and the 350 was a squeeze. Of course times have changed since then. I'd guess the weight limit is probably more relevant to what goes in rather than the bag itself which is more likely to get blocked due to size. (Depending on airline).

    I wasn't able to find a review covering backpack bottom. Is it hard? How thick?

  • @DTSquared

    @DTSquared

    2 жыл бұрын

    I wouldn't describe it as hard but it is firmer than the other sides since there is an extra layer to act as a pouch for the rain cover. If you leave the rain cover in this bottom pouch then that adds some additional padding. Hope that helps.

    Yes I’m definitely still happy with the bag. It’s not showing any real signs of wear or other faults. The one criticism I’d have after using it for a few years now is that the spring clips for the tripod strap are easy to unclip accidentally when NOT IN USE. Never had an issue when they are under tension like with a tripod strapped on but if you leave them on when not in use them you need to tension them or you can rub them the wrong way and unclip where they attach to the MOLI webbing. Go ahead and get it though , you won’t be disappointed
