This might be weird, but I worked at a farm with about 20 Percheron, and their noses smell extra sweet, like hay and a baby mixed together 😭 Also, when they were called in from the field for feed time, it literally sounded like thunder coming down the hill. @amandaannamalid7065 really? Thats mb i dont really know a whole lot ab percherons (guess i should research before commenting haha) there is a percheron stable near me that breeds them and they mostly have darker horses so i kinda based my comment off that and some other little research, again mb thanks for correcting me kindly 🥰
Actually, prior to being a war horse, they were primarily used as farm horses. They began to be favored by knights because they were strong enough to hold them and their very heavy armor. During the crusades, the horse became the knight's favorite, and this refined it into a war horse. Even today, they are favored for jousting
Now, I have to figure out how to convince the VA that I need a therapy horse.

Hey, with the big size of a horse ," calm "and "docile " is very reassuring.
In the early 90s I worked for the Heinz hitch. All Black Percherons. And I have to say those horses amazed me me so much. The intelligence. The full hitch was training one day with a young horse Bob. Big John and he was Big. Was his partner in harness. When they came down from the training ring there is an outside stall area and a large sawdust pile for stalls The wind blew the tarp and even before Bob shied from the tarp Big John put his shoulder into Bob and kept him from pushing the team into the shed. The pure power of that was incredible and the intelligence beyond some people. It absolutely blew me away. Loved them. If I remember right John was 18 hands. The largest recorded is 21 hands.

Love this story.. it reminds me of when I was riding bareback for the very first time in a riding lesson. My horse was an Irish cob who was too scared to trot over poles but that lovely girl shifted her own weight under me every time she felt me slipping. Horses are just amazing. 🥰
When my son was little he played all the time with one of our jousting horses. The horse also remembered him years later. We love them! Thank you War Horse Farms out of Florida. HAZZAH!
My grandpa had Percheron as farm horses and they were wonderful. Gentle and kind to us kids. I’m not afraid to be around horses though I am cautious - I owe them that because of their temperament :)

… they aren’t only Jet black, but I feel like they are mainly known for their dapple grey coat variation. They’ll also come as greys, chestnuts, bays, etc. Also yeah they are very very calm and sweet horses (commonly at least) And they were also popular fire horses, and apparently they have Arabian blood in them- idk I’m using a book about Percherons lol

Most grey horses are born black and "grey out" over years as in the Lipizans ( not sure if I spelled it correctly)
They have such a dainty action considering their size and power. Lovely!❤️❤️
I can never see too many videos of Percherons 🧡🧡🧡
Percheron are actually not very calm for a draft breed, and that is well known among breed enthusiasts. While they might be calmer than a hot blooded breed like a Thoroughbred or an Arabian on average, when compared to most other draft breeds they tend to be much more hot, reactive, and temperamental. It’s this higher energy that makes them such extraordinary work horses.

@sbp4215

Hands is the most common measurement used around the world to measure the height of horses. It has been used for centuries and is the most immediately-understood and well-established (not to mention entrenched) measurement. Think of it kinda like feet and inches. Even places that use the metric system sometimes use feet and inches primarily to describe a person's height. It's because it's the most easily understood. I'm 5'5" but I wouldn't be able to tell you how tall I am in cm.
@Jupeee
Жыл бұрын
@@sbp4215 places that use primarily metric system sometimes use feet and inches only because majority of americans don't know the conversion rates between the systems, just like you. I can tell you I'm 187cm or 6'2 because I've had to convert it more than once because of americans who don't know the conversion of 1 inch = 2,54cm and foot = 30,5cm. If hands are used to measure horses sizes then fair enough but it doesn't make it any less dumb.

I love Perchies! So cute!
My dad rode bareback on one of these when he was a kid. He said it was like riding a wardrobe.
I think a horse at my therapy was this breed. She was HUGE, much bigger than most of the other horses there, was pitch black, and was very gentle and patient. I remember one time I (a small adult I'll add), I was having trouble putting her halter (or reins, cant remember what it was called) on and I accidentally poked her in the eye. She didn't even really move away from me, she just bent her head I think to help make it easier and walked slow for me when I finally got it on and we walked out to get her brushed. The ironic thing is that her name was Minnie. I don't know why its funny me.
Yet, the horse is such a majestic beauty.
I've never heard of these but they sure are beautiful.
They are gorgeous!
I was a horse packer /guide and my favorite horse of all time was a 17.2 Percheron . He was totally fearless in the wilderness ,and would go over downed trees, deep rivers and streams and wasn’t phased in the least on cliff side trails. He was amazing at calming other horse having a problem when out in the wild. I love the Percheron breed. ( I grew up with Thoroughbreds, Walking horses, and quarter horses ,but I’d never go back to them)
I really wanted a horse when I was a little girl. Riding seems exhilarating! While I didn't get a horse, I did have my 🐈😺😺😺, and just loved them. At 67 I just have one now, Petey. Learning the language of animals has become a passion for me, and I love movies about "horse whisperers." Thank you for such a beautiful reminder of those early yearnings for a gorgeous animal!
