Weldone guys for your contributions. Here's my take. Eras, times, reputations are a factor here. I honestly respect what Ferguson has done at Man Utd. But let's be honest here... Would World football today, give Pep Guardiola as much time as Fergie back in the day?? As Klopp and the likes. Pep has built this reputation that he's seen as an instant solution, he's expected to have instant result. Pep in his first season at City was trophyless for the first and only time in his career...he was roasted. Do you know what would have happened if Pep went trophyless for a 2nd season? He'd have been sacked. Now Sir Alex for Man Utd was trophyless for the first 5 seasons, but he was building gradually. No one was worried, not much was expected from him. And that's the difference. Same with Klopp at Liverpool. Klopp was trophyless at Liverpool for about 4 seasons, no pressure whatsover on him. But for Pep, for some reason, he's different, so much is expected of him. He's not won the CL yet for City at his 7th time of asking and the pressure on him is much. Alex Ferguson, it took him 13 years to win his first UCL trophy for Man Utd. He didn't have as much pressure as Pep is having to deal with today. So here's the point. Can Pep build a team from scratch...Absolutely yes. Would he be allowed, given time to build a team like others....I don't think so. Hence, he always has to use money to get instant hits because he's expected to have instant results. This is one major difference between Pep and Ferguson. This is due to the fact that Pep became an instant hit at Barca and that reputation stuck with him till this day. Ferguson has also managed bigger players than Pep has in the EPL. How many players under Pep, aside Aguero, Silva,Kdb,Kompany would walk into the treble winning Man Utd team of 1999 or Man Utd team of 2007-09 or Cheslea team of 2004-2007 or Arsenal's invincibles??

Another thing is that pep has had an open checkbook at city while sir Alex picked us up from dust and made us the best.

For Sir Alex Ferguson I would say what he did with a team like Aberdeen to win them the European cup winners cup against Real Madrid in the final, also winning against Bayern Munich on the road to that final, was something special for Sir Alex Ferguson's Manager legacy. Also in that final, that was the last time that Real Madrid lost an European Final. Also Aberdeen won against Hamburger SV in the European super cup, and Hamburger SV were the reigning European champions in the European cup i think. Would pep be able to be successful with a team like that? Im just curious, although im a city and barca fan , which i guess is kinda weird and biased maybe, but i become mostly fan of those teams because of Aguero and messi obviously. Barca because of pep, and city before pep because of the beginning of citys success

The tactical influence that Pep has brought in football and in the 3 leagues he's coached is much greater than Ferguson. Now, before idiots come and talk about money or "oil money", may I remind them that Man utd alongside Cheslea have spent more than City over the last 15-20 years. Pep beat Feeguson twice in the CL. Again before idiots come and say it's because Pep had xavi, inesta, messi, busquets, let me remind them that Ferguson had a stacked up team as well. A young CR7, Giggs, Scoles, Rio Ferdinand, Evra, Prime Nani etc. People talk as if Ferguson had sunday league football players.

Pep has several manager including ETH who are of the Pep philosophy and now you have football being played from the back in England from the PL all the way down to the non-professional tiers of football as well as in other leagues. I think in terms of straight up football manager, tactician, formations, making players better, Pep is clear. But in terms of man manager, galvanising an entire club from top to bottom, bringing through youth, continually refreshing the squad, Sir Alex is clear. It's such a hard one, but United aren't the club they are now without Sir Alex, they were not really anybody special before him, Liverpool and Tottenham dominated the 80's and 60's/70's respectively. I love Pep but with the money they have, tv rights money these days, director infrastructure clubs have now, disparity between clubs in the league, I could see an argument that there's some other coaches that could have won City some decent trophies, definitely not as many but some.

Fair points all around. Yes pep has got the coaching sussed out however football styles etc are subjective.. possession is great but u gota win. It took pep 12 yrs to assemble this team with over 800m spent to win what hes almost going to win. At Bayern was it a success? The previous manager won a treble there, Pep couldnt win the ucl even tho he had top superstars such as robben ribery etc. hes a great and will always be top 3 but u cant discount that fergie won the league with players that wouldnt get a sniff at top clubs elsewhere. I wana see pep win something with a lesser team then il fully rate him. Jose done it fergie done even ancelotti winning the ucl last year with two midfielders that are nearly 40. Thats elite imo.

@@youwhat5058 Pep did a season at Barcelona B and had them top of the league and promoted playing beautiful football having been relegated the previous season with a disintegrating squad, and brought busquets up from the academy. He then instantly got the job as Barcelona, promoting Busquets from the Bs and selling high profile players like Ronaldinho and Deco. He used more la Masia talent- even bringing back pique from united who he did wonders with compared to SAF, winning the Copa Del Rey, La Liga and the UCL (beating SAF in the final) turning messi from already a joke to the best player in the world by a mile. He elevated all the homegrown talents game including all time greats like Xavi and Iniesta. That homegrown argument just isn’t all that, and the simple situation is that Pep Guardiola was so good so quick that he never really had to manage any ‘bad’ teams. I understand SAF did more with lesser teams but it’s quite easy to say that when Pep has never really had to manage lesser teams. And if we’re being honest, Pep has a better record than SAF across his career. Having broken almost all the important records in all the countries he managed in (including some of SAF’s) and potentially on the brink of SAF’s infamous treble, it will be quite hard to still say SAF by the end of Peps career as we would expect him to continue at this rate.
