My university (in Italy) also has some courses in English, so the prof came in, casually greeted people in Italian and then started giving the lesson in English for, like, one whole minute while we all looked at him in confusion, so he just stopped the lesson and, in Italian, asked: "Guys, I see you a bit strange, what's th- Oh right" and we all have a nice laugh ahah

I was visiting my cousins out of country. I speak Spanish with them, but their neighbors were mainly English speaking people. Once I was on the phone with my aunt, one of my cousins' friends knocks on the door, and when I open it I start telling her in Spanish that my cousins are getting ready, that they might take a while, and that she can come back in a while. Her face was what gave me the clue, and I just said "I spoke Spanish, didn't I?"

@Billy O'sullivan most Western Europeans know 2 or more languages lmao, except for English people of course. English is basically a must in most countries, specially in Europe, then there’s a big chance people speak both their national language and their regional one (Catalonian, Galician, Irish, Welsh, Scottish, etc) and most people usually also know an extra language, for example French, German, Spanish, Italian or Portuguese. So yeah, your statement is kinda wrong

I’m from Argentina btw, and I would actually like to take some Portuguese classes, I probably will tho, it doesn’t seem that hard and my mother learned fluent Portuguese by living in Brazil for like 2 years so yeah lol
