as quite a few have pointed out, each cat has a distinct personality. they're excellent boundary-setters, something I aspire to learn. you really have to invest your time, energy and care into them to really get to know them and earn their trust. personally, to have a cat love you is possibly one of the most rewarding feelings

How can anyone hate cats? If a cat adopts you, you're in for years of unconditional love.

Total dog person for my whole life. Love dogs and couldn’t imagine not having one or more in my life at anytime. I’m 57 and we just got a kitten for the first time with 3 dogs here. I’m converted! Love the little thing! So easy to care for, so friendly and fun and my dogs love her too! Have a 3 month old puppy and they love each other. It’ll be fun to watch them grow up together. I didn’t know what I was missing out on by not having a cat. I know that puppies generally keep their same personality traits when they’re adults. Sure they act more like an adult dog, but they still have the same personality they were born with. I was wondering if cats are like that? I know she’ll act like an adult cat when she’s older, but her friendliness and her liking to be with you I’m hoping will stay?

generally yes, by about 3 months old they're pretty much the way they're going to be for their whole lives. At least in my limited experience

@@lettuce7378 Thanks so much for the reply! Yeah she’s a great little kitten and gets along so well with her big puppy “brother”. She’s going to be an indoor only cat but she has a ton of space to live, basically half my house all to herself. I use a puppy gate to separate her if she needs some “No Dogs Allowed” time, so no stress for her. After having so many dogs in my life I really appreciate this little cat! So funny, playful, cuddly and friendly and sooooo much easier care-wise than a pup! I don’t know why I never got one before?

I think some cats may have “teenager” phase where (like teenagers)they get more grumpy and less cuddly for a bit, they’ll calm down after the phase ends. I’m not sure if this is true but that’s what I’ve heard! ☺️

My girlfriend hated cats and was allergic, then I rescued one from the side of the road from a box. She had to get medicine to help with the allergy and she absolutely fell in love with the kitten. The cat is now our fur child and likes her more than me.

I've had dogs but i never had a cat before and now i have a kitten since 3 weeks ago, totally changed my mind about cats ♥️😺

Indeed, the kneading can hurt a little, but I endure it happily bc it's so cute and means your cat feels safe with you, I love it 😍

I never hated cats, just didn't really like them. Then a black kitten showed up hiding under my cabin. The plan was to catch him and take him to the Humane Society. I picked him up, he looked at me with wide green eyes and started purring. I was done for. I have been his pet human ever since. I even adopted a buddy for him, so now I have two. Best things that ever happened to me.

@A Name Is Not Important No you can't? Certain writing conventions have and always have existed, such as the proper use of punctuation. A period has significant meaning in a sentence, as it signifies the end of a sentence, that same way, a capital letter represents something important, whether that being the first word of the sentence or a name or place. To ignore regular conventions and just say "I'll do it how I like" is ignorant and flat out wrong.

I was someone who "hated cats". Until I found an abandoned newborn litter and cleaned/nursed them for a day (and fell in love) but then had to separate from them after dad called the ASPCA. I realized my hatred for cats came from just loving dogs and not really having much experience with cats besides television and a few brief encounters. And our society for some reason makes us feel like we have to be one or the other. Dogs are easier to love because they're usually so excited and loving. But cats are also precious. 90% of people who "hate cats" dont really hate cats.

I like both well enough. I wouldn't think of owning a dog, because I'm not really an outside-person and prefer the less-dependent style of cats, so I'd wouldn't have to be with it 24/7. Still like to play with my dad's dog. The "our society" part is true as long as you make it true, I think. People prefer to belong to groups, so they can feel supported in their opinions and habits, while at the same time have a common 'enemy' to make fun of. As long as you don't let others' preconceptions bother you, you're good to go :)

When i was in secondary school I had a female cat. I used to get sick all the time and would end up at the hospital every month. I always had to lock up my cat first, because she would end up escaping and following me all the way to the hospital and stay until I would come out. And when i used to stay sick at home, she would never leave my side. I miss her so much.

I notice people who hate cats don't actually understand cats. They tend to want them to be like dogs or they treat them like dogs which inevitably ends with a paw swipe and leaves human thinking all cats are evil.

I grew up with dogs but then when I met my husband he had a cat. Now I can’t imagine my life without my cat. ❤

"cats don't like me" but consider that the only time you've met them is when you've just showed up in its house to hang out with it's owner and it has no idea who you are.

+BlueHeartXXX Indeed :) No harm meant. I know they can be finicky. One of mine has a pose nicknamed "the bear trap" because he'll invite you for a belly rub and anywhere between .5sec and 10min all the limbs and teeth will "snap" shut on you.

fr I used to be so TERRIFIED of getting scratched or bitten by a cat before I got a cat. but like my cat only scratches (not to intentionally harm me) but when he's playing with my hands and gets too excited he lets his claws out but it doesn't hurt too bad, you get used to it. If you move away it's not like he's gonna chase after you and claw you down, it will just think you don't want to play anymore. And biting doesn't hurt AT ALL (at least not to me) when my cat was a baby it hurt way more than now mostly cuz he doesn't want to hurt me (as you gain that trust and the longer you have your cat of course) and only when he's playing he bites but never hard. even my mom noticed as he got older he stopped biting so hard. 🤷🏽‍♀️ I honestly have the best cat, he's the sweetest. CRAZY for sure but he's my baby🥺🥺🤍

They also bite when they love you a lot. They are very gentle love bites. My kitties do it to me when they are super happy

All of their concerns were valid. As a cat lover, I can read the warning signs but to a non-cat person I can see how aggression just seems random.

I love how half of them changed their mind at the end 😂

Cats really lives an honest life. They dont flatter people. If they like someone, they'll show it. If they hate someone, they'll also show it. Love them and they'll love you back.

I have three cats with different ages and none of them bite me. I observe people and I think they just don’t know how to deal and cuddle a cat. They aren’t soft, they cuddle like they would cuddle a dog or something. And they don’t do it in the right places. My cats are never enough of my touch, sometimes I get tired to cuddle and they don’t want me to stop. You just need to do it right.

My mom always hated cats. Then I brought home a cat that turned out to be eerily similar to her. Pitch black, petit, fiery-eyed with a fierce attitude, intolerant to strangers and idiots and with a hair trigger for violence. Then my mom suddenly began to love cats, not least because the cat, a Bombay, seemed to also hate my moms sister like the plague. After the cat beat up my moms sister, AND her dog, my mom and the cat became inseperable... a true life companion.

A lot of people don’t like cats because they can’t control them as easily as dogs. Cats are very independent animals and many people can’t deal with that.

@@squooshy2999 Trim their nails like you're supposed to and you won't have an issue with their claws. Cats who actually bite, as opposed to nipping, do so because you're anatognizing them or because they have a behavior problem.

my dad was a dog person and didn’t like cats and then once he met his girlfriend who has 2 cats he is obsessed

Moral of the story is: People who don't like cats are probably afraid of cats and have never had a good experience with a loving cat.
