When it’s zero interest, why not invest the money? Zero interest loans are literally free money. I owed 500k in student loans when the pause started 3 years ago… I bought a house, sold it (last year) due to work-related move (very fortunate for a 120k profit). Have 250k in HSA at 4.8% (that’s 20-30k extra over the last 3 years (didn’t start with 250k, interest wasn’t 4.8% 3 years ago either)… in the last month preparing for loan interest restart, I paid 250k… the same amount I’d otherwise have paid (but instead I now have more to throw at the student loan and an emergency fund)… there’s more than one way to manage debt. These guys preach ONLY to the irresponsible people.
I put my head down and paid mine off my coworkers were telling me I was crazy. Who’s crazy now I paid it off and now they still owe.

People should understand that if there is no student debt relief, there's going to be a ripple effect on the entire economy when these people default on their debts. I mean, that's basically what caused 2008. People couldn't pay their mortgages, they defaulted, and it hurt the entire economy.

In actuality, it would have been smart to weigh your options during a pandemic. 1.) There is a chance you were not going to work and 2.) If you were going to work, you would make the best use of the $, which means if housing was low, you would have bought a house before paying on a student loan. Why? Because it would be cheaper than renting. People were trying to leverage during the pandemic. What I do not understand is why people were getting delivery on their food from fast food places? Just go out and drive thru it, use the money saved to pay down your student loans.

I don’t think that college should be free for everyone. The only people who should have to pay for college are wealthy parents. Does this mean that we’re going to have a lot of people who are maybe not really meant for college go to college? Maybe but it’s more important that we have an educated populous than an uneducated populous. And it’s better for people who are poor to go and get bachelor, masters and some kind of doctorate degree and make as much money as possible then for them to only graduate high school or not even graduate high school I just have a GED. We need to end the cycle of generational poverty.

Control and fix your own life and take accountability for your own actions . It’s called being responsible and being an adult. Welcome to the real world…😂
Please stop talking about people who make bad financial decisions as if it’s “happening to them”. Especially someone taking in debt while not paying their other debt due to a temporary emergency.
I kept paying mine till the company holder changed hands and I didn't have the info to keep paying anymore 😮💨😑
I never stopped making payments. Got my shit down from 7k pre pamdemic to less than 2k now while not accruing interest. I'm paying it off before August 31st. Bet.
Government should conduct a personal finance class in high school and make it mandatory for applying for federal student loan.
What's absolutely ludicrous is the fact that these people really believe they did not have to pay this back you borrowed money I mean who borrows money thinking they don't have to pay it back. Crazy.
These entitled brats will refuse to pay their student loan obligations in mass. This isnt good for the rest of us.
USA is 32 trillion in debt. Why even bother at this point?

Yep. That's basically my perspective. That's not anything that we're paying off in this lifetime. Likely not my child's or grandchild's lifetime either. Who the hell cares at this point?
I took the money I was gonna spend on my student loans and while they were at zero started paying off my truck faster, since the interest rate was still working on it. I paid off my truck today, 3 years early. I was able to lower my overall monthly expense and car insurance because of it. I do still have student loans that just restarted but I’m much better off. Many didn’t do the same and are now suffering.
