It’s great to watch, and his videos are very focused on providing the dog structure, and having a healthy relationship with dogs. When you let the dog control everything it doesn’t work because the dog is living in a human world.

Joel: It doesn't really matter what your dog wants to do if the behavior is unacceptable. Yes! This!

Basic rule with Corso (i own a big male and surrounded by people who own them) is from the minute you get them, set boundaries and stick with it from day one till death. Give them an inch, they'll take a mile. Amazing breed but not for the faint hearted. Edit : They're wicked smart which doesn't help.

Prince is such a good boy! The cane is a good girl too, and a beauty; and she is learning manners here, good work.

Really enjoyed the voiceover on this one. This was a good reminder on possessiveness, which I think is especially important if you have more than one dog. My one dog tries to get in the middle of the attention I give to the other dog, this is a good reminder that that isn't really good behavior.

Great video! Super important concepts, ‘Circle of Trust exclusion’ and ‘Dog is Not in Charge’. Way too often when people return home, they can’t greet their kids or spouse because the Dog demands all of their attention. So there’s a big fuss over the dog, ‘oh, isn’t it cute how much they missed us,’ etc, completely unaware of the message sent to their Dog. Then they wonder why the Dog believes it’s in charge. Thanks again, Joel!

She’s a gorgeous girl! I’ve learned so much from Joel but the main takeaway from every video I watch of Joel’s is expecting and teaching acceptable dog behavior (manners) and correcting when it isn’t!

i own a cane corso, around 1 year, your description of them is true. lovely dog, but a little more fearful than your average guard dog, which kind of makes is scarier if not properly trained through it. i enjoy all your content, i appreciate what youre doing for the dog community

My dog is a 75lb pitbull/collie rescue who I got at 7 ( now 9) and was a huge puller. I tried patient gentle corrections and treat-based training. He was just ignoring me and thanking me for the treats. Now, I correct and say the magic words " We will do this all day mate" He just looks at me with the stink eye but he knows I will do it. So he stops pulling! If he starts again. We just go back to me correcting him. Our walks have become easier and he is enjoying them more too.

Excellent job on describing that the owner gets to pet or attend to any dog they wish. The owner sets the boundaries and everything is on the owners terms. Really good stuff

Almost can't blame them for being so focused on their dog. She is BEAUTIFUL 😍 but really. The more possessive the dog the more firmly you have to set those boundaries.

Owners constantly choose tools that perpetuate the problem that they want to solve (harnesses especially). That large collar that the owners chose, thinking it gives more control, only contributes to the dog's ability to pull and communicates to the dog that "something is up" by allowing her to keep constant tension. The owners don't realize it, but they are usually telling the dog to do the unwanted behavior in dog language, despite what they think they're telling them in human language.

Great Job Joel , I own a cane corso mix and I also use some of this methods to continue training my dogs "backing them up" "popping correction" .When you say "funky" I think is due to people unexperiance with this breed ,and not training and socializing this type of breed from the time of young puppys.My dog also plays rough but I also end it if it's to "overwhelming" for the other owner or their dog.Not all dogs need to paly with each ,but all dogs should have manners if going to dog parks frequently. Keep up the great work. You been a huge help to fine tuning my training.

Those Kind of Videos really helped me with my fear of dogs. Honestly, these videos show me that dogs are just beings, who are socializing just like we are. And dogs have their own 'mental' problems

Say it louder for people in the back to hear please. Coddling your dog 24/7 makes it a neurotic mess. Mine are with me day and night but unless they come to me for head scritches or outside play there's minimum contact. The more you give, the more they take and when they don't have it because you're not there it affects them in ways we don't actually understand (yet we think we do lol)

I did this exact same thing with an aussie client of mine a while ago. Aussie was guarding their human and their truck from the other dogs, who she got along with well on her pack walk. I had the owner meet me for my pack walk, get out of his truck and pet the other dogs and tell his own dog to "Get!" when she came in to nip and guard her owner from other dogs getting in his bubble. She's over it now and he can pet other dogs with her nearby and not have her nip dogs away. "Get out of my bubble" really does work.

I appreciate you reminding parents they should also have lives, beyond their children.

Thanks I find it much easier to be patient, and understand more about fear period signs with how you, Joel, explain and break down the details. Everyone even I thought ozzy was aggressive and protective but I now know we were dead wrong, and now our training and relationship are growing and succeeding

If ur not willing to give it ur all....then don't get a Cane Corso. We have a beautiful brindle babygirl. The most unique dog we've ever had the pleasure of calling family.

Watching her literally had me cracking up. Our Cane corso is 2 mo older and I'm 115lbs I currently have him under control but even with his prong collar it was so comical watching us me and my 2 daughters they are really strong and when he wanted to go i definitely had a time or 2 when it landed on my butt.

Joel, Tom davis and fenrir are the top canine trainers on youtube!Joel more then most cause he has content(even tho its basicly the same content on repeat) + i love that he does voice over instead of talking instead of showing, he shows and comments which is the best! It helps new owners and old owners that are facing new issues! My dog gets jealous when i pet other dogs but he doesnt realy care other dogs comes to me to get pet and he wants it 2, never aggressive in anyway. hes also very cuddly with everyone who wants to pet him.

Looks like the dog see's everyone in the family but dad, as above it in the dominance hierarchy. Look who was petting Prince when the dog came over and gave Prince a chill hello. That's who the dog see's at the top and who it is taking it's cues from.

As a cane corso owner i do agree that they are very wary of their surroundings and that causes them to be scared or act a certain way when something out of the ordinary happens

I love your videos. I try to learn from them. We have a 5.5lb Morkie, rescue, about 5 years old. We’d love to see more videos on small dogs. Our Lucy is reactive to people and dogs. She naturally gravitates to the alpha male. His wife his son and everyone else defer to him, it's a natural order and she has been taught that she is VERY VERY special a adored. So you rightly point out how to set boundaries. She's a VERY VERY good girl, but she's also extremely powerful. Definitely a big challenge, but I have confidence in all you guys. I've had three rotweillers, family have 4 great pyranees, shepherds, lots of mutts, a feral husky/coyote, a retarded Yorky, I just enjoy having them around, as family. It's very comforting to see the family with you and your patience and guidance. Top Notch.

Great video, Joel!! I love watching your video's they have been very helpful in training my dogs. I actually just got a little 8 week old Vizsla puppy and named him after your dog Bosco. Also, I'm wondering about what age did you start socializing Prince with other dogs? And is it best to wait until my dog is fully vaccinated?

Totally on par with what I know about Cane Corso. They are smart, stubborn and will take advantage of their owners if given the opportunity. Not trying to put them in a bad light. No, no. I want to own one someday and this knowledge will be crucial when that day comes.

Please do more about rescourse guarding! Being the "boss" is a big part of it, but please go deeper in details like what to do, how to think, when a dog triggers and start protecting by growling or freezing up. Would you work with it? or leave it and work towards never getting there? I see mainly 2 different approaches. One being working on distance, treating, working to closing in the gap. And the other one removing the dog from the treat and starting over kinda. Just your thoughts and ideas about the whole situation would be very much appreciated! Thanks Joel for everything you do! We need to educate ourselfs and becoming the very best we can get for our dogs :D

Im simply courious because I was reading up on it when I noticed a trigger earlier in our friendship. But he was younger, probably didnt trust me well enough either. Anyhow, even if I never see this behaviour again, still wanted to know Joels respons :D Edit: oh yea, I have seen the other video already, but as I said maybe a newer one, maybe more in depth? more about how to work with it "more" than being the boss etc

I had a cat that used to be like that dog. She did NOT want me to pet other cats. I thought I could get away with it this one time cuz she wasn't around to see it happen, but she must've smelled it because when I came back in to pet her, she wouldn't let me touch her and she kept her back to me the whole time. And then I never saw that other cat around my house ever again. Another time she caught me red handed stepping out of my neighbor's front door with the neighbor cat, because I was feeding my neighbor's cat while my neighbor was on vacation. She was sitting right on the sidewalk, facing us and looking pissed. Neighbor cat started to crouch. I said to my cat "Pumpkin, you'll be nice to [neighbor cat] won't you?" And then my cat let out an exasperated groan and walked away right after I said that.

I think that alot of dog owners don't really know how to control their dogs alot of dog owners don't know what to do in a situation where meeting up with new dog's when going to a dog park or meeting new dog's out for a walk i don't really think that alot of dog owners don't read up on the breed that they are getting you do a fantastic job Joel you always know what do with these wonderful dog's your dog prince is a wonderful dog good natured dog he is so beautiful as well and so well behaved.. Cane Corso is one of my choice for a second dog . I already have large dog and in 2 years I’m thinking of cane corse . In the meantime I’m learning a lot about them . My Dogo definitely wants me to stop petting other dogs so I need to work on that

My 65lb pit is 6yrs old and terrified of everything. Wind blowing trees, random furniture on the street, pool water reflections, etc. But she loves other dogs and fears male humans (runs away tail tucked)

Prong collar hurt and can make the behavior more intense.

Backing up and cornering a Cane Corso ... omfg you need big balls to do this.

"It just felt right"--- I think you have really precise use of pressure/energy and intuition. I think one issue that troubles me in talk of confronting a dog is that often people err on the side of either coddling or being excessive and unnecessary and abusive with their levels of pressure/energy. I like how Cesar Millan put it when he talks about "match[ing] the dog's energy" (though I think sometimes he does use a little bit too much force.) But I also think that people will dismiss a trainer outright instead of acknowledging that as we are all human, we are capable of doing some things better than other things. Anyway, as always, thanks for sharing

Little bit too much force?I do not agrre and I saw allmost all videos of C.Milan what I was abel to find in internet…thats problem With people they are too "soft" and little bit more "force" is allready problem🤷‍♀️no !did you see how mother of puppies is correcting her puppies?if we humans only could properly learn dogs behaviour from dogs and s without emotions than everybody would have well behaved ,balanced happy dogs-sorry for my Gramma.

I think she has a crush on prince

I have some individual questions about my dogs development. - my dogs name is Faith and she’s a Rat terrier chihuahua 9.3lbs rescue dog. We had her since she was 1yro, she 3 now but when she was going on 2, she developed a thing for bitting people. She’s the sweetest dog but she bites at strangers all of a sudden

We rescued a 6 month female Cane Corso. Our Husky ( female) gets jealous and makes it real clear she doesn't want her near my husband. My husband corrects her and allows the Corso next to him while the Husky backs off and starts to whine. All this happens when my husband gets home from work, and he sits on the couch and gives attention to one dog( we have 4) at a time. She does not act like this with the other dogs only her. One Day that Corso isn't going to take that bulling and attack back and this is why I'm concerned. She stands no chance with an adult Corso.

Any suggestions for dogs nearing 3 years old who still act fearful of household objects? We can get something like a pair of gloves which she doesn't see often and just holding them makes her concerned and skittish.

The American line Cane Corsos definitely have a nervous streak. The Italian line Corsos are MUCH more confident dogs. The Italian lines are where its at.

My in-laws have one she’s a horse! The slobber is unreal! She also hates one of the sons and has bitten him a couple of times but is fine with the rest of the family! The dog had hurt her paw and he touched it and that was the first time she bit him and after that she hated him!

I trained a lab and it seemed so much easier and simpler than this. Are labs easier to train?

I have a German shepherd puppy he will be 6 months old on the 5th I have him in training classes with other puppies he loves play I'm looking for another puppy to get to raise them and train them together what breeds would u recommend that would be good a fit for him I don't want to get another high prey drive dog my puppy is a European Czech blood line I do alot of hiking trails and go to the lake I do Puppy day care for 3 hours so my dog has a chance to play in a safe environment with other dogs my dog park around here isn't that safe people don't put all Thier time In training and socializing and desensitizing thier dog's and I don't want my puppy to get hurt he is good with cats and dogs and people and my parrot my husband works alot I'm home with my dog more often than him I'm the one who trains him and takes him for walks and takes him out to stores and takes him to training classes do you think he will be more bonded with me or don't u think that would make a difference

Oh I was wondering this: why didn't u use a Gentle Leader on that Cane Corso?

I am having trouble socializing my dog (milo) I would never bring him to a dog park. He will attack anything once he starts chasing. He also just bumps heads with some dogs. AND he will definitely kill a small dog if he got close enough to one. My family’s dog (Mugsy) is over it with milo as well. I brought milo over to play and Mugsy loves to be chased. As soon as milo started to chase him, Milo went crazy. It lasted a bit because my little milo isn’t has fast as my families huge lab pit mix. But once Mugsy started to slow down, milo full on attacked him. Like Mugsy was his prey as soon as they start playing chase.

At this point I just want to keep him inside at all times besides time where I can keep him far away from other animals. (Or just the walks I take him in a few times a day) I want to keep him and all other animals safe. And I feel like at this point keeping him inside is all I can do 😭

Dogs are animals with a short life span compared to humans. Dogs may one day leave us before their owners, but they love us dearly. Their love for their owners is never wavering. Even famous biologists can't tell the truth about what dogs are thinking. But dogs love us more than they love themselves. This is a valuable lesson that dogs can teach us in our life with them.🐶🐶🐶🐶🐶🐕🐕🐕🐕🐕

Ppl need to research dog breeds and be honest with themselves on their level of experience and what breed fits their fam before getting a dog.🤦‍♂️

The problem here is the dad. He have a weak body language, and his timing is off when he trives to block the dog.

So how do we personally fix this issues when we don’t have a prince? I’m in Ohio.

You need to start using prongs! This much pressure on the neck cannot be good.

Cane Corso relationship with owner is interesting. Some just seem to know they are huge and they are going to intimidate you others seem to feel small and scared high level of fear bred into them so they can be trained to scare away bad guys. I like where you went and helped the confused dog because she didn’t have a relationship with you. I thought it was expected that she tested your strength immediately after that because she would want to know if she can trust you. I don’t think the leash pop works as well with this breed as the immediate redirect. Tricky breed for sure!

Leave the training to him, dudes been doing this for a long time. He even said he worked with this Brees before. If the leash pop didn't work it's probably this dog specifically

Not my favorite breed by any means but certainly a beautiful and intimidating breed. I always ask myself what would a person ever need a Cane Corso for when God made Rottweilers. They just do everything Corso can do but better. These dogs are in my opinion a breed that is almost a tad bipolar I find. They are unreliable and prone to impulse imho.

@@absolutelyfookinnobody2843 yeah. The other guy doesn’t take the lead from the owner. For this breed, did you see the dog turn and death glare Joel? He’s lucky he didn’t get bitten. I’ve seen dogs that are jumpy like that with no relationship bite.

@@User7688.--_ well. It was during the leash pops for pulling. A prong collar and a pre pull work way better with this breed. I’ve seen other breeds that he does it with and they seem to get it but this particular dog didn’t care about the leash pull. In fact i thought he almost got turned on. They aren’t stupid animals.
