I’m loving these videos. Hearing other’s experiences helps me relate to others. I am in Nashville and would love to talk about long term undiagnosed ptsd and self-medication in the art world.
I was excersizing almost daily, had good sleep and a healthy diet and most of the other usual suspects. I still had anxiety attacks which impacted my life and ability to work. I went onto SSRIs and since January did not have a single attack and is now able to perform and live a normal life. I tried many different things before going on the antidepressants, sadly nothing worked. Really happy to be on them. Also, love these videos, especially the surprise ending 😅

I find it hard to believe people who comment like this on the internet because it's just too unicorn. The truth is, there's a reason we call it a "healthy lifestyle". Most people who have depression have unhealthy habits (as most of us do). Also, it's never good to believe drugs are the end all be all, even if they help and are good, because they rarely solve the root problem. They are a tool, not a solution.
I liked Cicelia's input. I was depressed for a long time without knowing it, I had lost interest in taking care of myself, I had a very successful business which I ignored and let fall away to nothing. My depression also caused me to be quite caustic to others, like I tried to lift myself by tearing others down. It was friendships that eventually pulled me out of it. I went to a friends wedding and met many people who I hadn't met in years, and they all respected me and liked me, as they didn't know the depressed me. Then I met a girl who really liked me. Having people around you who like you is so important. When depressed people tend to isolate themselves which just compounds things. Personally, I don't think drugs are any kind of answer.
@charlieparkeris

Another brilliant video. All the interviewees seem so comfortable talking to you, which is such an important thing to get right. As for the antidepressants, it's pretty much the same story here in the UK. I've been offered them so many times for all sorts of symptoms. I tried them once and had such severe stomach pain that I threw up. Never touching them again.

“You already know what you’re supposed to do” incredibly strong advice. Most people do know if they have bad habits but do them anyway, had dreams that they’ve slowly given up on, have responsibilities they’re abandoning, and all these things eat away at a person, especially as you get older and feel the weight of time. No pill will fix that.

I think this is arguably one of the dumbest takes ever. First of all, this is generalizing that people get depressed because they get into bad habits. Evidence has actually disproven this. People have genes that can make them more susceptible to depression/anxiety depending on their environment. Also most people can shows serious clinical signs of depression and anxiety even with the best of habits. This part of the stigma people don’t realize. Depression and anxiety are physiological changes to the brain. Sometimes reversible and other times not. Amazing how, nearly 75% of America has a chronic illness between hypertension and diabetes. In theory, “good habits” could prevent this, yet even those with great habits still develop those chronic conditions again because of sometimes the role genetics play.. I am not sure why mental health doesn’t get a pass. It really is a stigma and a bias. There are physiological changes to the brain that occur with the way people interpret their suffering and their reality.
@sheriffrust

@@seanoconnor9467 I don’t think it’s a dumb take at all. What you said is true but you can’t deny that people with depression create bad habits and coping mechanisms for themselves, which arguably exacerbates their depression. Alcoholism is a good example of this

I agree with everything that is said here, although there are cases where chemically anti depressants can really help people. Personally for me I was diagnosed with life long depression and anxiety, and anti depressants have completely changed my life and allowed me to feel like myself. Something that I always knew was there but buried deep. Thanks Andrew for bringing light to topics that often people do not want to talk about. Before I was on them, I was very skeptical and judgemental towards them, but its like when you break your leg, you get a cast. To me its like that, it is a tool to get you out of that hole of depression, and be able to look at your life clearly and work towards a healthy mind and life.

I clicked on the video for the pretty lady.. but this video was way more insightful than I was expecting. I agree 100% with what the people and you said.. You know what you gotta do in life, Be healthy, socialize, follow your dreams, get sleep etc and If those things aren't in check then we shouldnt even consider pills but in some rare cases with chemical imbalance pills are needed.. but thats like 2-5% of the time but nowadays doctors prescribe most people that walk into their office with this shit its disgusting.. We need to bring back community that would do wonders for everyones mental health .. social media is isolating people.
Great content, keep it coming!
Great video! People i know on psych meds helps reduce their issues for sure, but demons can creep back in and the meds can reduce their vitality or chips away at confidence/motivation … with doctors supervision it can be useful to plan an off-ramp from the meds if the idea of coming off psych drugs gives you new hope and confidence in yourself… most of all don’t judge yourself either way
Just do what makes you feel good and try not to worry about everything else, like baaannniee sitting in the sun :) Great content
I like seeing how people are aware of the dangers these medications bring to you and how overprescribed they are. Sadly I got off of them and haven't been the same as before... I suffer from PSSD and it's been 9 months already. Had to even take disability leave because the cognitive deterioration has been fast. I do have hope I'll recover eventually. I do think they can be helpful for the very extreme cases (immediate danger to oneself and others), but exhausting everything beforehand is a must... especially if they misdiagnose you as major depressive, then bipolar and finally figure out it was adhd all along lol

If your psychiatrist did advise you to take them then maybe you should do it... I had anxiety for yeaaaars as long as i can remember and always refused to be medically treated for it and kept brushing it under the rug and convincing myself that a healthy spiritual life style with stability love fun pleasure is enough to make it better .... It was until it wasnt ... Until no matter what i did doesnt work... Until i couldn't even go out of the house for months .. untill it affected my professional career as a medical student in my last year i couldn't even bring myself to study or enter a classroom or discuss my thesis... What i mean is if you feel that its starting to affect your daily life even a little go see a specialist because its like a snowball it just accumulates and gets worse.... And you can use antidepressants that are actually stimulants and low dosage that wont affect your normal life at allll.... Its like everyday minus the anxiety... You just have to look for a good psychiatrist
