Simon and Garfunkel wrote and performed this song in the 60s, Disturbed also did a cover of this a while back, and now Pentatonix. I really enjoy all 3 versions, they each give you a different perspective.

many people have said this is their best song they've ever done...even liking it more than Hallelujah...which is saying a lot because that is their most popular song. Superfruit also came out with a new video for a cover of The Promise. definitely think you should check that one out :)

After my first viewing of this video I instantly said that I put it right up there with "Hallelujah". I'm amazed by the sheer amount of reactions to THIS video thst are filling every available space in my KZread feed.. more and more daily! I like all 3 vs. of this song that came from Simon and Garfunkel, Disturbed and Pentatonix. I envision a different scenario when I listen to the arrangement and delivery each artist used. Fabulous arrangement here! They really used each members unique vocal range to be able to handle the key change and other challenges the specifics of this song presents for 5 voices and no instruments. well done Pentatonix!

What you are seeing is an example of when art exceeds the artist. All the versions bring new meanings to the lyrics written about 50 years ago by a young man in his early twenties.

They compliment each other so well.

I said it on their site, and I will say it again here. THE BEST DAMN VERSION EVER!!!

This is definitely NOT my kind of music but penatonix is so talented and I appreciate them doing popular songs their way. Always upvote for originality and talent, no matter the genre.

When ever they perform I always feel it. Songs I have heard hundreds of times seem to just reach and touch you when they perform them.

This song is SO AMAZING. When the video first came out, I bought concert tickets immediately after seeing it. And they are SO GOOD live, too. Dude.

Everyone has their own opinion of course, but I prefer Pentatonix's version by far.

Pentatonix hallelujah, then the official video of Jason Michael Carroll's Alyssa Lies you can tell if it is the official video and there are no restrictions if it starts out stating this was based on a true story and you see a high school teacher talking to his class but wait until the very end there is important information that follows the song

So I happened to show my friend a pentatonix song a few years ago, he got really into them. Then as soon as Mitch and Scott came out as gay, he hated them, like really hated them. That's really a shame that your friend is missing out on some of the best singers of the century just because two of them happen to be amazing queens. Other than Mitch's outfits you can't even really tell they're gay just by the pentatonix videos. They really only show it on superfruit and it's not like they push it into the general audience's faces through their music. The fab 5 aren't out there singing only gay anthems, in fact a large part of what they sing is religious in nature. Hopefully your friend will come around one day.

For some reason the airing of this song flipped through important parts bc these people are talking about a nuclear explosion that ripped through the night to produce the sounds of silence. Then the people talking without speaking, people listening without hearing, people writing songs that no one shared- they're talking about walking zombies left after a nuclear explosion. Then the words of the Prophets, those trying to warn future generations, being written on the subway walls and tenement halls. Every viewer missed these vital parts of the song. Without them, this didn't make the sense that it was supposed to give. After the nuclear explosion, is the sound of silence.
