The official video shows them singing in a church with the choir. That's where the acoustic space changes to "huge reverb". Kevin is giving rhythm nods to his Nigerian/Grenadian heritage. World beats, indeed.

Pentatonix stuck to the a capella "rules" for years, except for Kevin playing cello occasionally, and except on the Christmas albums, where they started using instruments and extra voices on some tracks to get the sound they wanted. The official video of this makes me really happy; everybody seems to be enjoying themselves so much.

This is the BEST version ever, in my opinion. The way they arranged this with an up beat happy vibe is really the way this song should be because the message of the lyrics is about a joyous event that should be a happy celebration. The song is known to be more of a Gospel song but I really like the Pop rhythm they gave it. I was up dancing the first time I heard it. You just can't help it. 😁😁😍😍 Thanks Jacob.

I love this arrangement. It's done as an African Spiritual song. I've seen a lot of actual African choirs take this arrangement and perform it in shows.

This is one of my favorite covers of this Christmas carol, and this Christmas carol is one of my favorites in general. I can see what you mean by Christmas songs are complex chord progression-wise with the exception of a couple. Great reaction Jacob! Avi is the bass for this song.

The gospel/african sound is definetely there, I think it's when they start to build up towards the end that the choir joins. Also talking about the production I think you can really tell when Ben is involved cause normally you'll hear the distinct voices more, you can see the difference in the new ones they released. Please Santa Please and Kiss from a rose (both amazing btw) are very differently produced than Pure Imagination or Christmas (Baby please come home) (also amazing lol)

Thanks Jacob. I have supported PTX since I "met" them right after Matt came on Board, purchasing every CD, even some of the older ones, sharing them with family and friends. I won't purchase or support this project. It is a hard slap in the face for Matt who has worked so hard against all the "haters" who say they aren't, all the comparison, the brutalization, and down right meanness towards him -- who only won his auditions and took his rightful, well-deserved place to help propel PTX. This project in its infant stage has already back-pedaled and unleashed a torrent of anti-Matt comments. Everyone should listen to Matt's interview with the bass Peter to hear his true feelings and what he's gone through and graciously down-played. The comments are now calling him "just another pretty face." So now his looks are a problem, too? PTX I thought you had Matt's back. The super-talented young man has given you too much and contributed greatly to your sell-out shows for you to set him up like this. Seems for all this "family" talk, they don't really care. Best to Matt and prayers to shield his heart. Some Christmas present...

You keyed into the African (Nigerian, a nod to Kevin's Dad) and Island elements (Kevin's Mom is Grenadian) right out of the gate! This is my favorite version of this song.

Aviously that's Avi on bass. No comparison. Avi is his own category and isn't just another pretty bass! Matt is a great addition to PTX but Avi has no equal. Try some Avi solo music. Please?😅

A bit disappointed that they kept the Avi’s version for the greatest hits. Matt has been a member for so long now that I humbly believe they should have found the time to re-record them before putting them on the new record. Awesome reaction as usual 😊

I think I have to disagree. I love Matt’s voice, but he doesn’t hit those velvety bass notes like Avi. And I think Avi deserves to have his contributions included. He was such a big part of making Pentatonix what it is and putting them on the map. So I was thrilled to see Avi included. And I’m glad Matt is well represented on the album, too.

@scottfifer4362 not comparing!! I just appreciate Matt and his sunny disposition and what he has brought to PTX since he's been there. I have my own opinion about Avi. And yes, he was a part of the beginning, but I personally feel like Matt allowed PTX to take them in a different direction, which was just what they needed at the time. I love how Matt makes those songs his own when they perform live, and I actually prefer Matt's version. To each his/her own I guess. 🙂

I love Matt’s sunny disposition, too. He has the warmest smile in the world. And, as I said, I love his voice. I’m just saying for the purpose of this album, I feel they needed to stay with the original version of all songs. I’ve downloaded the album, and I will enjoy both Matt’s and Avi’s contributions. I’m sure you will or have done the same. Loved Pentatonix in the beginning, and I love them now. Wishing you all the best.

Avi played a huge part when they were building their fan base in their first 6-7 yrs. His bass is unique to him. To re-record his songs would be to erase him as though he didn't exist.

I also think they should have re-recorded these with Matt. At least for this greatest hits album. It’s kind of a slap in the face to matt at this point to be releasing a new album and he’s not on half the songs. Avi would still be on all the original recordings from the albums they were originally released on. It’s not erasing him at all. Especially given the fact that they already released a Best of Ptx Christmas in 2019 with a lot of the same songs as this new one. Matt is officially in the group now just long as Avi and Needs to be treated as such. Soon will be longer. Matt has been part of two album releases with a lot of Avi on them. He should be part of the full albums like all the other members. Yes Avi was there when they built their success but some people give him way too much credit for the success Ptx has had over the years. The rest of the group and their arrangements obviously was crucial to their success too.
