I'm not sure there is an "original" to this song. It's a very old Christmas carol. Usually sung in an attitude closer to a hymn. A favorite of choirs. I think it's just fine with only five of them. I like the African vibe and I really like that they make it so happy. Yes, they're in a church. My goodness this wouldn't be the same without that velvet bass!

You probably have heard the traditional version many times, but just don't realize it because it's completely different than this version...much slower and more reverent. As far as I'm concerned, THIS is how this song should ALWAYS be performed! Blows the traditional arrangement right out of the water!

O Come All Ye Faithful, originally in Latin, "Adeste Fideles" 1604. We used to sing it in Catholic Mass, at Christmas time. I love their version, because it's so lively and fun. I love the hint of shoes and red robes, and the glorious voices. They are having so much fun. I love PTX ! Thanks Bayo !

"O Come, All Ye Faithful" (originally written in Latin as Adeste Fideles) is a Christmas carol that has been attributed to various authors, including John Francis Wade (1711-1786), John Reading (1645-1692), King John IV of Portugal (1604-1656), and anonymous Cistercian monks.

"O Come All Ye Faithful" is a very old Christmas carol. When I was a girl, 60 or so years ago, it was one of the standard songs we sang when we went door to door caroling, because *everyone* knew it. I suspect that if you heard a traditional rendition of it you'd recognize it immediately. But Pentatonix has given it an African vibe that's totally new, and they've turned it from a solemn hymn into something joyful that invites you to dance.

This classic Christmas carol is completely transformed by PTX, with its underlying African beat and cadence. It just blew me away the first time I heard it. Don't get me wrong - they are true to the melody, but it's all in the flavor and pure joy with which they execute that melody that makes it so special. And the African rhythm to the piece is essential to giving it that feel.

This is one of the most famous Christmas carols, sung in churches all over during the season - the melody they are singing is basically it. Really hard to believe anyone has not heard it! The verse Scott sings at the beginning is the melody of "the original" hymn. Kevin has put an African rhythm and background to it.

This version from PTX will always have a special place in my familys heart - for a very sad reason. About one year ago my little niece passed away and my brother and sister-in-law played this version on her funeral as the little one loved it and used to dance to it. R.I.P. Semira 👼
