I too recommend "Oh Come All Ye Faithful." It is so good but not at all what I expected. I also like "The Little Drummer Boy" and "Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy" even though this last song has no words. Pentatonix can sing any song and make it remarkably beautiful and uniquely their own.

Everyone says "O come all ye faithful"... which I'd definitely suggest. But one of the best songs to hear the new Bass singer Matt is "(You're a mean one,) Mr. Grinch... big time fun!!! Oh and Over the Tiver with Kevin (beatboxer) on his Cello w/ Lindsay Stearling on Violin. .

Kevin sings more in the recent videos. After all, he can't sing and beatbox at the same time (well, maybe Kevin can). Two videos with him singing lead are Imagine and Amazing Grace.

Hey Michael, You might get a chance to witness Kevin's beatboxing in person. Pentatonix scheduled an European Tour in the spring of 2023. The closest venue is Amsterdam. Hopefully you can take time off so you can go.

I would like to second the Oh Come All Ye Faithful recommendation!! I know for me, at first when I was listening to PTX, I was constantly marveling that there were no musical instruments…before long, I was just marveling at their beautiful sound! So later on, when they did add instrumentation to some songs…I really didn’t notice until it was pointed out. I REALLY DIDN’T CARE!!! I just really like their music! The only thing that possibly outshines their stunning vocals is the kind of people they are! In a world full of virtue signaling twerps (the kindest descriptor I could come up with) they are the real deal!!!

Yes!! That would be a good intro to their live performances...also the more recent performance at the Hollywood Bowl 2022. Miles Reuben's channel has the whole concert broken into all the songs they did.

They were recently at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles, and there are several KZread things out there of this concert. You will see that they are the Same. I recently saw Matt doing the beat boxing when Kevin has to do a lot of Cello live. Its probably easier to have it sound perfect when Kevin doesn't have to Cello box.

Oh yeah, Kevin beat boxes live for the whole show and even cello boxes (plays cello and beat boxes at the same time), it is so wild to see! I would also recommend to react to their cover of Gold, but you have to know/listen to the original first to truly appreciate the cover :)

Kevin has an angelic voice that he sneaks in between beatboxing. He also will occasionally play his cello. They take pride in not recording song they can't perform live and have been known to sing live and without mics. See Run to You thr the Ft. Lauderdale concert

Kevin does beatbox live and he uses a stomp plate rarely. He also play cello in a few numbers; he also plays saxophone and speaks fluent Chinese. Check out his solo version of 'Down' (Marion Hill cover). Listed to the original first then you can understand his genius much better.

They just released a new video (featuring Meghan Trainor) entitled "Kid on Christmas" that is 🔥. It is an original song (written by Meghan, Matt, and possibly Kevin and Scott). It has a full band backing them (heretical to some), but it's so ruthlessly sunshiny that you can't sustain a bad mood through it.

Kevin is a beautiful tenor, Mitch is a counter tenor - a truly rare bird!

First there's the Mitch-slap...now there's the KO by Kevin! The first time I saw this video was also my first experience hearing Kevin sing a solo, and I was just as amazed as you were. While Kevin is usually too busy doing vocal percussion to be able to sing solos, he will (more often than most realize) sing harmony when he's not beatboxing, and he does occasionally sing short solos on songs, like he did here. Although I have to point out that in this song, he actually had twice as many solo lines as Kirstin did! For more PTX Christmas songs, I recommend That's Christmas To Me (a PTX original), O Come All Ye Faithful (a very different take on the old classic, arranged by Kevin), Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy (their 2nd Grammy win), and God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen (starts off traditional, then gets the PTX treatment).

Nice reaction. Their live performances are even better and there are some great videos of them, particularly their September 2022 Hollywood Bowl concert in front of a sold out audience of 18,000 fans.

I was lucky enough to see them in concert last year (sold out show!) and Kevin did an evolution of his beatboxing skills. It was amazing! You could feel it through your whole body. Most excellent!! Great reaction, looking forward to more. 😊

Particularly recently, some selections in a concert will have string or percussion elements, either live accompaniment or percussive tracks that Kevin has pre-recorded, but the majority of their set is still all LIVE a cappella, and no member is spared, although the lead/focus alternates

they've been experimenting a lot in the past couple of years and they have introduced instruments and lots of layering to some of their songs, so when they perform those live they usually have some backing tracks to fill out the sound. if a song is fully acapella in the studio its also fully acapella on stage, so yeah he beatboxes live :) you should check out their 90s dance medley from hollywood bowl 2022 (miles reuben's channel) it's a live performance in a very good quality and you can hear how they sound live

Yes Kevin beatboxes live, I was at their concert in Peoria, IL on the 3rd and they are a fun group to listen to and sound even better live. They have been selling out all their shows and that was the case in Peoria; I highly recommend anyone to see them live, it's a good time. Plus, they get the audiences involved to singing along, clapping and using their cellphone lights in co-ordination while they are dancing on stage with Cost 'n Mayor(who are a dancing duo touring with them) to their new album song collab with Megan Trainor, "Kid On Christmas".Later on PTX, posts these videos on TikTok. We did the "wave" with our phone lights in Peoria, and watched the next day on TikTok and it looked very cool! Watch them live! You will have a good time.

Their version of Hallelujah has nearly 700 million views. I'm in the UK and have been a Pentaholic since their 'Sing-off' days over 10 years ago. Daft punk official video which they won their first Grammy for (they have a few with more nominations) THEN watch the daft punk private performance where thry basically just performed the song with no microphones, no amps or speakers, no video production or after production. Totally stripped down. There you can see without a doubt everything thry do in studio version they can do live, just quieter without the microphones. Mitch you can still hear without aids. Lol

Yes, they are as spectacular live. Zero enhancements. And yes Matt has a beautiful voice, as well as his being a great beat boxer. These folks are so very gifted. This is my favorite Christmas song & their version is the best. I thought Clay Akin was #1, but PTX beat him out for the sheer awe factor.

You're fun to watch as you get into acapella. You mentioned wondering about what beatboxing would sound like from Kevin live and in concert. I don't know that I've specifically seen a video of that but there is another acapella group that is somewhat to Pentatonix and there is a KZread video that is a clip of him doing a beatbox solo during a concert. His name is Adam Rupp and he performs with a group called HomeFree. If you search for Adam Rupp beatbox solo, you'll find a couple videos to choose from I believe. Enjoy them. You'll be amazed. That said, Kevin Olusula (from Pentatonix) does a live recording of a cover of "Down" that is here on KZread and he beatboxes, plays cello and sings. You'd enjoy that as well.

More PTX Christmas songs PLEASE!!!! Anyone will do, they are all excellent! Dance of The Sugar Plum Fairy won them a Grammy! There are a lot of "shorts" on you tube that have them performing live interacting with the audience during their current tour. If you see them, they show how large the audience is when everything is dark and they all turn the cell phone lights on. Pretty cool to see.
