That's our Mitch! He is a true counter tenor. And he'll drop your jaw and bring you to tears with his voice regularly. We lovingly call it being Mitch slapped. Get used to it. It happens a LOT. And yes Kevin the beatboxer is a human 808. He sounds more like drums than actual drums do. And he plays cello as well. AT THE SAME TIME he calls it celloboxing. He is ridiculously talented. They all are. They have a decade of music for you to explore and enjoy. You'll love it all. They actually have like 6 christmas albums. Their brand new one released only a few days ago is Holidays Around The World. They will have a holiday special on Disney+ coming out Dec 2nd. On I envy you the pleasure that lies in store for you!! There is nothing we Pentaholics ( hopelessly addicted fans ) love more than when a new person discovers our favorite group. You can't go wrong with anything of their's you choose to do. And if you react to it, the Pentaholics will come!

The first singer is Scott, a baritone; the second is Avi, bass; the third is Kirstie, mezzo soprano; and the fourth is Mitch, a tenor. The beatboxer is Kevin, who is also a tenor and can play multiple instruments, most notably the cello. Avi left the group for a solo career in 2017 and Matt has been the bass ever since. They all have amazingly broad vocal ranges. Scott, Mitch, and Kirstie have known each other since they were 8 yrs old and went to high school together. They sang together as The Trio and brought in Avi and Kevin so they would have 5 people to be eligible to compete on the third season of The Sing Off, an American television singing competition show, in 2011. They won their season, got a recording contract, and were promptly dumped by the label because they felt acapella was not profitable. Pentatonix started their KZread channel and have excelled ever since. They have hundreds of songs you can react to and a huge fan base who love to watch reactions to their music!

Congrats!! You just found the premier a Capella group in at least the US...possibly the world!! They have an extensive library of songs... covers and originals, for you to choose from. And any time they do a cover, it's an upgrade from the original because their arrangements and harmonies are just incredible. The five members are as follows: Scott Hoying ( first singer, tall blond male) baritone ( can cover the bass line when the bass is singing lead) Avi Kaplan( second singer, bearded, dark-haired male), bass ( actually an opera trained basso proffundo) Avi left the group in 2017 due to his mother's illness and the complications of touring while trying to make visits to her and his family. Matt Sallee has taken his place and is a wonderful addition. Avi now follows a solo career and is doing really great with it. Kirstin Maldonado ( third singer, occasionally blond female) mezzo soprano. Kirstie ( as she prefers to be called) changes her looks often so be prepared to see her as a brunette or red-head. Mitch Grassi ( fourth singer, usually dark-haired male) counter tenor. Mitch changes his looks often as well. Kevin Olusola ( black male) beatboxer and tenor. Kevin is perhaps the most versatile member of the group. He not only beatboxes, but plays the cello and beatboxes WHILE playing his cello. He also plays sax. He does sing on occasion and has a really sweet falsetto. Matt Sallee ( tall black male ...not pictured in this video) bass. Matt took over the group's bass when Avi left and is such an outgoing personality that he fits in so well with a group that has been together since 2011. Scott, Mitch and Kirstie have been singing together since they were in high school, Avi and Kevin were recruited for them to enter an a capella competition..which they won! Some suggestions for what to check out next: Sound of Silence, Bohemian Rhapsody, Daft Punk medley, I can't Help Falling In Love, I Just Called To Say I Love You, or anything that you want from their 200+ repertoire. Have fun!!

Welcome to the world of a cappella music. There were no instruments played in this video. Pentatonix (PTX) will sometimes use instruments but only occasionally. The emphasis is always on the vocals. The band started eleven years ago and the members are now around thirty years old. The three main vocalists sang together in high school as The Trio and have been singing together for half of their lives. They sing everything, but usually sing Pop and Christmas songs. They just released their seventh Christmas album called Holidays Around The World. They are doing a Christmas tour this month and December. They have a deep song catalog that doesn’t disappoint. Recommend their version of Bohemian Rhapsody and their Grammy winning Daft Punk (medley). Subscribed.

Welcome to the wonderful world of a cappella music, where no instruments other than the human voice (and occasional body percussion) are used! As you figured out, they don't use any musical instruments for their videos, with a very few exceptions where the instrument will be prominently displayed in the video. The most common example of this is when Kevin (the beatboxer) plays the cello - while continuing to beatbox (he calls it cello-boxing). They have been making music together for over 10 years now, with only 1 change in personnel in that time as others have explained. Their catalog is well over 200 songs now, and they just released their newest album at the end of October - Holidays Around the World. Pick any song of their catalog to listen - you won't go wrong with any of them! Since your sister recommended them to you, you can probably get some recommendations from her on songs that she enjoys. A few recommendations of mine: Daft Punk (very different - they won their first Grammy award for it), Say Something (the first video where Kevin cello-boxed with them), The Sound of Silence (Simon & Garfunkel classic), Amazing Grace, Mary Did You Know (the first video I saw where Kevin sang with them), My Heart With You, Love Again (original), Be My Eyes (original).

Worth browsing through videos of live performances to get a sense of just how little difference there is. The Prayer (Celine Dion & Andrea Boccelli) Aha! (Imogen Heap) 90s Dance Medley (actually a mashup of a bunch of songs) Grammy winners: Daft Punk (saw that you have done this one) Jolene (with Dolly Parton) Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairies Christmas/Holiday: My Favorite Things Over the River Mary, Did you Know Prayers for this World (new this year) You're a Mean One, Mr. Grinch Originals: Love Again Coffee In Bed Be My Eyes Happy Now Run To You Sing Foreign Language: Papaoutai (French - Stromae cover) Midnight In Tokyo (Japanese - Ft. Little Glee Monster) Dear My Friend (Japanese - actually Little Glee Monster's song Ft. Pentatonix) Perfume (either Korean or Japanese, not sure why I can't remember that today, lol) Hope that's enough to get you started! 🤣 In seriousness, though, you're gonna have such a good time discovering what they are capable of! Not sure if anyone mentioned this, but they all have amazing ranges. Scott, the first singer, covers the bass part for Avi (the 2nd singer), when Avi sings lead. Keep going down this amazing rabbit hole and learning more about them. You may think they change band members a lot because Kirsti and Mitch (the last two singers) change their looks a lot. There has only been one change since the beginning of the group and that is at bass. Subscribed for more PTX reactions. Lots of Christmas music you can react to at this time of the year. Just a few suggestions: Christmas 🎄 “Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy”, which won them a Grammy, and “O Come All Ye Faithful” (I guarantee it will blow your mind), “Mary Did You Know” and “The Grinch” which features the new (since 2017) bass, Matt. Secular 🎶 Bohemian Rhapsody and Come Along Their original songs: Sing, Coffee in Bed, and Be My Eyes (which the beautiful Kirsti takes lead and was a big part in writing the song). Just to give you a brief history and introduce you to the members of the group, watch "The Beginners Guide to Pentatonix" here on you tube. It is a slight spoiler as it does have a few seconds of LOTS of songs, but only enough to whet your appetite. There are SO many to recommend, but why not start where it all began - we call it "Baby-tonix" - with "The Sing Off" series 3. I would use the ones loaded by mrduckbear11 - and watch to the VERY END of each. You normally get the review of last week, this week's song, the judge's comments and sometimes the Pentatonix comments on their performance.

Pentatonix is an a capella group, meaning they don't use instruments. They have done collaborations with other artists and used instruments in those, but they will ALWAYS show the instruments when there is one playing. Like their Radioactive cover with Lindsay Sterling, a violinist, and Kevin (the beatboxer) can also play cello... He can also play it while also beatboxing at the same time. Mitch has the highest range of the group I think? it's him or Kirstie(the only girl in the group) - Scott, the first guy that sang with the blond hair, can fill in for the bass singer when he takes a solo part (Avi sang the second part, he's the groups bass when they did this song) Avi left the group amicably in 2017 for personal reasons and has since gone on a solo career, the bass singer is now Matt Salee He can be seen in 'You're a Mean One, Mr Grinch' and Sound of Silence......

Welcome to the Pentatonix “rabbit-hole”. Their name is a play on the pentatonic scale in music consisting of 5 notes. Since there are 5 people…..😁. Mitch Grassi (round hat) is a counter tenor. Very rare. Only a few around. They can sing soprano with no problem. They can also go down to at least a mid tenor. Mitch has a crazy large range and his diction is so clean and clear no slurring or fuzziness in his voice. This is an early in their career song with the bass Avi Kaplan so also can go up to medium high tenor and down to frighteningly low bass notes that have e blown out speakers in their concerts. When Avi was singing the tall blond guy Scott takes over the bass line even though he is a tenor.

Hey! Somebody else who doesn't know anything about music! I subscribed for THAT reason PLUS the first time I ever heard Pentatonix was my first "first-time reaction-video" several months (eons) ago. Can't get enough of any of it

Scott the first singer is a baritone/bass; second singer is also baritone/bass and they often switch up. The last singer is Mitch Grassi a counter-tenor and sings 6 octaves higher than most people worldwide.

Not really a KZread band. They used KZread to grow their fan base for sure, but they’re a regular band - and the first to make a Capella mainstream. They have 3 Grammys, 2 #1 albums, multiple gold and platinum records and tours all over the world selling out stadiums and arenas.

Welcome to the World of PTX. If you are really interested in expanding your musical experience, may I suggest: Pentatonix "Bohemian Rhapsody" and Dimash Kudaibergen, a Kazakhstan singer (greatest voice on the planet!) doing "Love is Like a Dream" and "The Show Must Go On". For Christmas, you might want to check out Pentatonix' "The Prayer". Looking forward to watching your progress along these musical journeys.

I'm SO Happy that you enjoyed this so much! I hope you go down the "Pentatonix Rabbit Hole" 🙂. Their catalog is never ending....And I think if you keep the videos blurred out, you'll keep them from getting blocked. You should also check out these other Pentatonix videos - you won't be disappointed: Hallelujah (Live Version) Dec 22, 2016: kzread.info/dash/bejne/mpV6qtSfncmuksY.html Bohemian Rhapsody (Official Video) Apr 7, 2017: kzread.info/dash/bejne/oZ6GzJSDe5jVc6w.html Daft Punk Medley (Official Video) Nov 5, 2013: kzread.info/dash/bejne/ZYGox7WloNupoNI.html Imagine (Official Video) Mar 10, 2017: kzread.info/dash/bejne/gICduaiOdK2fZaw.html Run to You (Original Song) Jan 30, 2014: kzread.info/dash/bejne/paRrsrWYhbGefNI.html Say Something (Official Video) Feb 24, 2014: kzread.info/dash/bejne/YpiNztidfMexado.html The Sound of Silence (Official Video) Feb 15, 2019: kzread.info/dash/bejne/mZiKzLitoNWbZbA.html (the bass singer in this one, Matt Sallee, replaced Avi Kaplan, who left the group in 2017) Amazing Grace (Official Video) Nov 5, 2020: kzread.info/dash/bejne/gZakj5t7db3LYcY.html The Prayer (Official Video) Oct 29, 2021: kzread.info/dash/bejne/qaKq3Nl6gNTUmbg.html

I can't argue with any one of these choices and add my second vote to every single one. If you do a few a week you might be able to finish them before Christmas, and Pentatonix has a very, _very_ deep catalog of Christmas songs. The challenge is to pick a song that you're not really crazy about and find the Pentatonix version of it. It will become your new favorite song. Almost guaranteed! Thanks for the great reaction and I have subscribed to see you travel down the Pentatonix rabbit hole with us Pentaholics. Cheers!

Scott (Singer #1 is a baritone but has an upper tenor range and falsetto, and also covers bass when the bass sings lead); Avi (Singer #2 is a basso perfundo, also with an amazing range. Avi left the group at the end of 2017 and was replaced by Matt Sallee.); Kirstie (Singer #3 is an alto/mezzo soprano who can do whistle notes when necessary); Kevin (The beatboxer also sings, in the high tenor range, and often plays his cello (Beyonce) in some of their songs; and Mitch (Singer #4 is a counter tenor, also with an amazing range). BTW, nice Mitch slap! We Pentaholics live for it!

Tall blonde guy is Scott, he's a baritone next is Avi, he's a basso profundo. Next the girl, Kirstie ( rhymes with thirsty) is a mezzo soprano the last guy is Mitch, he's a counter tenor. The beat boxer is Kevin, and he's also a tenor.

Pure Pentatonix Perfection. A Capella at it's very best. The gentleman in the hat is Mitch Grassi, supreme counter tenor, with amazing vocal skill and talent. Voice of a generation. You sir, were Mitch-slapped!! All five of them are superb and supremely talented, individually and collectively. Eleven years of work, all genres, 3 Grammys, over 200 songs, music videos and live performances. Suggest - Imagine, Sound of Silence, Bohemian Rhapsody, Daft Punk, The Prayer, Can You Feel The Love Tonight, Come Along. Christmas is here, and PTX Christmas songs are a whole other body of work. Suggest, Carol of he Bells, O Come All Ye Faithful, That's Christmas To Me, Three Ships, Silent. Night, Mary Did You Know. More PTX please. Welcome to our world - we are Pentaholics.

There are stand alone moments in music , entertainment and just magic in the moment. I can say for myself that Pentatonix was a gift...it took my breath from me. Not an instrument..just the human voice..and what a perfect beauty of music created by perfectly synched exquisite voices and raw, passionate beat...It leaves you thoroughly limp and enthralled by the sheer perfection of their blend..it leaves you stunned.
