sound of silence done by pentatonix is hauntingly amazing

While I heartily agree that Pentatonix’s cover of “Sound of Silence” is amazing, I have to say that “haunting” is a better fit for Geoff Castellucci's new cover of it.

Pentatonix's "Mary did you know" is really great! You really get to hear Kevin (the beatboxer) and Avi (the bass). 😉 I miss those days... Edit: Over 300 likes?! Wow! That's more than I've ever got before! Thanks, everyone! 🥰

I hate that song so much. Basically, “Hey, new mom, did you know you gave birth to a baby who is going to be murdered? But it’ll be this beautiful and glorious thing?” As a mom, if someone were to tell me that, I’d get the hell away from the as fast a possible and go to the police and get my daughter into hiding. It’s such a horrific song that I now can’t stand Pentatonix since they sang about murder as beautiful to a new teen mother.
The sound effect in the headphones is called panning! There's tons of fun audios out there that really scratch that brain itch☺

The "easy come, easy go" right before the l-r pan changes from stereophonic to monophonic, something Queen also did at that point as well.

it's also known as Stereoscopic sound. When one ear hears one thing (or not) while the other hears something different. Technically, all sound is stereoscopic but this is forced for effect and is how Queen did the same section of the song. Also, IT'S KIRSTEN! CURSE-TEN! I forgive you though
@shirleymoffat3338

The first time I heard it was in 'Back in the USSR' by The Beatles in 1968. It's been around a while!
That shift from ear to ear is "Panning" and it exists in the original Queen song, so it's a tribute to that

We always want more Pentatonix reactions.
two really great Pentatonix covers you should listen to are Mary Did You Know and Radioactive. In Radioactive they have Lindsey Stirling playing the violin and the beatboxer, Kevin, also plays the cello whilst beatboxing, it's ridiculously good.
@TobyBarrows

I love Radioactive!!
What i love about the panning is that it is reminiscent of the original queen version from night at the opera (1975)
Her name is Kirstin Maldonado, Avi Kaplan is the bass, Mitch Grassi is the tenor that sang most of the song, Scott Hoying is the blonde one and Kevin Olusola is the beatboxer.
You should react more to Pentatonix and Voiceplay. They are both amazing acapella group.

any pentatonix reaction is always an instant click for me. it's so fun to hear what professionals have to say about em
i’ve seen pentatonix live four times, and bohemian rhapsody sounds the exact same live, its absolutely stunning. i love seeing people react to an a capella group ive loved for a decade
Their version of Sound of Silence, Imagine, and My Favorite Things are all incredible. A lot of their songs are really just amazing.
There is a song that Pentatonix does that you will absolutely love. It's the quietest song they do and when they sing it live they put their microphones down on the floor, stand in a tight circle facing each other, and sing just for themselves, even with a crowd of thousands. Two of the members of Pentatonix have said it's their personal favorite song to sing. I believe they have to stand physically close to each other in order to get the perfect timing and voice blend that they do. It's a cover of a song by The Rescues called "My heart With You". On the official video when you press play it starts: no delay.

I was gonna say 3D sound. It's used sometimes in asmr videos. Your term sounds much more scientific 😊 The first time I heard it was a Tom hiddleston reading a little bit of a book. Completely floored me 😅
My favorite ptx songs are say something, waving through a window, sound of silence, amazing grace, when the party's over, shallow, sing, be my eyes, and everything else is great too!
My 2 favorite songs done by the pentatonix are Mary Did You Know and I love the evolution of music they did. Both are fantastic
Scott, Mitch, Kirstie (Kirstin), Kevin (KO) and Matt (their current bass). Their original bass was Avi (who was in this video).
@1:49 is called Panning. It is a mixing and mastering technique in music basically you push the sound to the left or to the right. A similar technique is done in videography where the camera pans from one side of the room to another but the origin of the camera stays the same. Like moving your head left and right to glance across the room
The sound effect you are talking about (sound moving from left to right) is called panning. Usually there is a knob labeled "Pan" on a mixer table, turning it will move the actual channel between left and right. Love your reactions btw :)
@n.q1158

Ah good I was scrolling through the comments to see if someone had said it already. I actually only learned the term panning from one of the Roomieofficial videos about the music in Encanto bc they worked with it a lot there, you can really tell nicely how the sound travels when the characters are moving, really fun effect to add.
you need to react to more voiceplay stuff. their more recent works are such bangers.
So, their names are scott, mitch, kirstin, kevin, and avi (which is not on ptx anymore) and that thing where you hear the music on both sides of the headphones happens EVERYTIME you listen to bohemian rhapsody, every cover
avi kaplan (the bass) YOU HAVE TO LISTEN TO HIS SOLO MUSIC I AM BEGGING YOU IT IS SO BEAUTIFUL HE'S AMAZING. I recommend I'll get by, it knows me, and song for the thankful. he has so much more than that tho and it's all amazing

i am always here for a pentatonix reaction. the guy who does the bass - avi kaplan - has been working on solo stuff recently which is beautiful as well. definitely would recommend

The back and forth is called panning, and PTX did it as an homage to Queen who had the same effect on their record in the 1970’s.
bohemian rapsody is a masterpiece (the original is unmatched considering when it was recorded without autotune)
Avi Kaplan doesn't just stare "into your soul." Avi sings his way in to your soul as well. His "All is Well -- 7 Layers Session," and "When I'm a Fool -- Live at Sunset Sound," are must listens to get started with his solo work.

Aloha Hannah, the effect as others pointed out in the introduction is panning, specifically hard panning (as in hard left and hard right). Queen were notorious for using the full stereo spectrum (left to right blend or hard right or left) when mixing their music. If you listen to Somebody to love carefully, you’ll notice certain harmonies were mixed left in the background ‘gospel’ choir vocals, while other harmonies were mixed to the right speaker.
The SPEED with which I clicked on this video cannot be measured i live these videos❤️ A lot of people have recomended songs already but sound of silence or cheerleader are some of my favourite pentatonix songs
Avi is the MAN! Love his range and his bass is BOSS!
You must check out their live performance of this song and the many others.

yes, I feel Avi staring into my soul. I also feel him in the back of my head with those low notes. all the brain tingles from his low range work
Pentatonix version of Amazing Grace is absolutely incredible!!
One of my all-time faves!!!
I remember back in 3rd or 4th grade I was in Music class and that's when I first heard of Pentatonix and I immediately fell in love with them. I believe the song was Daft Punk, and it's still one of my favorites today.
Even Pearl loved it. She couldn’t resist coming over to see who the heck was covering Bohemian Rhapsody.

A current acapella group that can give Pentatonix some real competition is Voice Play. You should really react to Voice Play's cover of Metallica's "Nothing Else Matters". It will give you the tingles! If you want to stick with Pentatonix for a while longer you should react to Pentatonix doing a cover of "Radio Active" by Imagin Dragons featuring Lindsay Sterling. Outstanding!!
I’m sure someone else already commented, but from the first couple comments I couldn’t see. Going back and forth between headphones is called panning. You can pan to either side while editing sound tracks. Going between the two can create an awesome effect when used correctly
"This song is such a banger" ... Brian May posted a link to his fans/followers with the caption "Enjoy". Ultimate level praise.
Voiceplay did a great acaleppa arrangement of boy band songs!
Who wants to tell her the megaphone is a prop, Mitch does it live without it.
Mitch is just so talented. I literally cried the first time i heard his voice live for the first time when I saw PTX a couple of years ago.
That effect where the sound moves from one ear to the other is called "panning". Love your little Sphinx kitty !
Love your videos! Please continue watching the search for the next Elle Woods!
That was a great reaction! Aren't they great!? They do this live in concert and it sounds the same, "electric guitar" and all! If you want a full body stunning Acapella experience, please react to Pentatonix doing "Imagine", by John Lennon... O...M...G! You have to do that one! Thank you so much for sharing your reactions and love of music wirh us!
I find a way that Mitch enunciate his words so amazing!
The bass is named Avi Kaplan and, in fact, he is an amazing soloist. I would love your reaction to one of his songs
You should react to Evolution of Ariana Grande or Rihanna by Pentatonix!! Full body chills i promise you!
i believe it’s called ear tracking!!
Kirstie (ker-stee) Maldonado is the girls name, bass with the beard is Avi, the blond is Scott, beatboxer is Kevin and Mitch is the higher voiced boy
I was just binge-watching your other PTX reaction videos today and then saw this! The timing is wonderful.
am i the only one still waiting for more little mix reaction? yes? ok
Hey Hannah, hope you're doing well now. Its good to see you back ❤
This is so amazing. I love their live performances more than anything.
if you want to cry and also have insane chills then listen to pentatonix sing imagine. they sound like angels
Ms. K is Kirstin!! Mostly known as Kirstie! (Ker-sten/Ker-stee) She is the Mezzo-Soprano of the group and she's my favorite member! The rest of the group is Scott (The Baritone), Kevin (The Beatboxer + Tenor), Mitch (The Countertenor), And Matt (Bass), The bass in this video is Avi but he left the group back in 2017!!
Any Voiceplay would do. Plus I would suggest Home Free as well. Great group.
From memory the alternating left and right channel thing was part of the original recordings from Queen ... and yes, it's amazingly fun!
I've been waiting for this!! I'm going to their summer tour and I'm soooo ready!!
Bastille's "Pompeii" done a cappella by Redefined. Their "Nintendo" medley is also great. Another older piece, Sacremento State Jazz Singers doing a Battlestar-Galactica-influenced arrangement of "All Along the Watchtower". VoicePlay is a well known a cappella group, but I only know 1 song they've done, Imagine Dragon's "Enemy" (theme song of Netflix's Arcane, based on Riot Game's League of Legends) featuring kpop idol AleXa (winner of 1st ever American Song Contest)
Highly recommend Homefree if you haven't heard them before! I believe the base from Pentatonics collaborated with them on a version of Johnny Cash's "Ring of Fire" 😁
Definitely recommend PTX's versions of 'Can You Feel The Love Tonight' (from the Lion King), Hallelujah if you somehow haven't heard it yet, Amazing Grace, and 'Say Something'.
I SCREAMED AT THIS TITLE. Can’t wait to see your reaction to Mitch’s megaphone!!!
Oh my goooosh it’s pentatonix related, Kirstin and her then fiancé have a Disney love medley they did with Voctave that is to die for!
If y'all didn't know, they are currently the California Roll on the Masked Singer, they are awesome!!
Thank you Hannah!!!! That was beautiful. My goosebumps had goosebumps on them. Their voices are so clear and their ranges are unbelievable. You are just fantastic. PANNING! That's the left-right thing that we hear in this song! It's _so cool_ and I'm pretty sure it was in the original too. My best friend has used it before bc he makes electronic music and he absolutely cracked me up a few years ago with the way he said "ping pong *panning* " XD
Love Pentatonix ❤❤❤react to sound of silence with them!!!
I feel full body chills every time i listen to there music
It's a sound board mixing term - pan or panning. It gives a sense of right/left movement in sound sources, sometimes exaggerated.
Hannah!! I also have the Shure-SM7B and highly recommend either swappin' the foam that's all torn up or a replacement (sold separately) or the boxier version that came included!
Pentatonix is on The Masked Singer this season. They’re California Roll.
Hello Hannah! Yes, please do more of these! PTX, Home Free and Voice Play are among my favorites.
I'm so glad you reacted to this one, Hannah! It's just incredible. They waited for six years before they attempted it because they wanted to do it justice. Brian May from Queen thinks it's one of the best covers of Bohemian Rhapsody ever made. The amazing thing is that they can do this live and Mitch does the guitar solo just with his mouth (the megaphone was just a prop for the video!). Mitch (dark haired counter tenor singing most of the solo on this one) and Scott (tall, blonde baritone) used to have a side channel called Superfruit where they sang covers, amazing originals and did a lot of fun things. From a vocal coach perspective I would love you to react to their version of Defying Gravity which Mitch performed (singing the Elphaba part!) as a birthday present for Scott who is a huge Wicked fan. Scott sings the Glinda part in a really dodgy blonde wig but shows off his range as he goes quite high in his falsetto! Mitch has on very patchy green make-up but he sings it in the original key and with the opt-up part at the end that few Elphaba's attempt. They also do a very fun alcohol-fuelled Frozen medley with Kirstie which I think you would find lots to comment on from a vocal perspective. If you react to either of these remember to watch after the 'subscribe' screen as there are bloopers! In terms of Pentatonix, I would really recommend some of their much under-rated originals. I think you would like 'Run to you' which is haunting and really beautiful, also 'Love again' is amazing EDM-like with a Steampunk/alien vibe and 'Sing' is a real bop and includes lots of their famous actor and KZreadr friends. Can't sleep love, Be my eyes, Coffee in bed and Happy now are also amazing. In terms of covers, Amazing Grace and The Sound of Silence (which are with the Matt - the bass who replaced Avi - the serial killer-stare one in this song! - in 2017). Also I know it's Christmassy, but 'Mary did you know' is gorgeous, though it's an older one. I love watching your reactions, Hannah, more please!
“If I Ever Fall In Love” with Pentatonix and Jason Derulo is really good too!
Great reaction! My God...the amount of counting required to pull this off is...astounding!
7:11 hannah is so real for that lmfao. scott's range never fails to leave me gagged
Also "Making Christmas" is AMAZING!!
All the chill bumps. PTX is amazing!
I get chills everytime I hear pentatonix. The full body experience i had when I saw them in concert was insane. 😂
The effect you asked about is called panning, as the vocals pan from one side to the other. Other acapella music you should react to? That's easy, anything by VoicePlay. You can't miss with one of their songs.
You should check out Avi Kaplan's solo music. Change on the Rise is his most popular, Black is the Color of my true Loves Hair with Peter Hollens showcases his beautiful lower register. And his latest album the Shooter Jennings produced Floating on a Dream shows of his impressive range and impressive song writing abilities. All 11 tracks are amazing and the remakes for The 7 Layers Sessions and the Live from Sunset Sound recordings are spectacular.
