I just looked up books on Amazon by Rebecca L Smith. I got her name from another UTube channel called Cabin Crafts. She explains felt applique and the history of Penny rugs in a 2 part series. There are many books on Amazon with designs to make. I thought this was a nice way to use up scrap fabric. Who says it has to be felt for all the circles? Maybe the biggest circle is felt or wool for stability and then the inner circles cotton fabric from scrap pieces leftover from making quilts? Then use 6 strand embroidery floss for the stitching. Just a thought. I hope this helps you. Hello across the pond, central Alabama here on 02/10/23.
Do you do the blanket stitch thru the background felt on the outside penny? I am making a wall hanging that will be framed and under glass
Como fazer pra levar?não souta tinta?
Hell could you explain the white covered stool?

Yes? Felt and cut up wool from old clothing. Sometimes I use sweater material. Xx
What kind of fabric is required?

I cut out the 'pennies' from dyed wool cloth
But what are they made of? how do you cut them? I don't get the whole "penny" concept.

They are punched or cut out of wool cloth

Anna, I watched another video by another channel and they said you can use felt as well, or instead of, wool...(cheap craft felt). Historically I guess they were made out of wool...(maybe from old men's suits that were no longer able to be worn?). They were called "pennies" because the old pennies they used to have were used for placing on and tracing around the wool as a "pattern" or template for cutting out the fabric. I guess in the Civil War Era - pennies used to be considerably bigger than they are now. I'll have to check that out!
Blanket stitch is single crochet but make it sewing 😂
