That is exactly what came to my mind while I was watching a totally new hand craft which is latch hook craft and from watching tutorial videos about latch hook I came here to this video. The amount of number of crafts out there that we don’t know about is really crazy!!🤯 And after I was convinced that KZread is waste of time for me and my kids, I come cross this kind of amazing videos to make me change my mind. I would like to thank the video maker so much for introducing us to another wonder craft that is amazing 🤩

Yes! I agree. The music distracts me, so I have to turn off the sound and then I miss important parts.

I have learned so much from KZread.. more than I ever did from school.. that’s sad.. but I am grateful! We should be teaching stuff like this to children

Instructions are easy enough for anyone to understand. You could even use the clothes of a deceased loved, repurpose a child's favorite blanket, or use material from clothes that are not suitable for donation. Thanks so much for this tutorial!

You have such a calm way of teaching, this looks like a very relaxing project and I have so many old sheets, I just want to know can you make it tighter if you use strips that are not as wide? How wonderful! I grew up with these rugs in our house that my great grandma made. They were GIGANTIC! I always wondered how they were made. Now I know. Your voice is soothing. I've watched this video a few times then realized I was really just listening. Your voice is sooooo soothing! Seriously, you'd be wonderful narrating books on tape. Heck, just put up an suitable screen saver and narrate something for us here! "Romeo and Juliet," for example. "Gone With the Wind" or "To Kill a Mockingbird." Anything loooong! :-)

I’ve been making crocheted rugs for fifty years. I’m glad to see that it’s becoming more popular. I use old sheets, mostly. I stitch them together end to end so as to avoid those knots that hurt when you step on them

That's fabulous. I found cutting the ends of strips into a triangular shape helps to reduce the bulk of the knot 😊

Such a wonderful idea. I have a set of sheets I didn't want to part with that belonged to me and my last husband. This is a way of not having to hear people tell me to stop being silly, and making something useful. This is so beautiful to watch. My mother was born nine of 10 children in 1926. Her mother who was 38/39 when she had my mom I think. Made Loom rugs with a machine in the basement my mother said where she fed something back and forth and had pedals. But she also made these circular rugs or oval rugs I hand out of I can't even believe there was anything left of the reused clothing repurposed clothing over and over and over but she still found a way! 10 children and almost zero income. She farmed a plot of land next door with permission. So she had to dig the thick thick Bramble out by hand sitting on the ground. She got it out enough to grow her family's food. A neighbor would bring flower sugar a dozen eggs every once in awhile a chicken which I do not touch animal products but I understand the times. These gifts were not every month. But my grandmother between her garden her caning and a Little Help from Neighbors raised 10 of her own children into of somebody else's. Plus my grandfather I don't know his story so much but I know he didn't work that often. My grandmother made all of her children's clothing the oldest of the boys would make the youngest children's Christmas presents by finding broken toys and fixing them. So a doll may have one wooden leg. But my grandmother would paint them back up, and make their clothing. So the dolls were as new as they could be. She also quilted and made hundreds of quilts which none are remaining. All of them had been passed around long before I was born. My grandmother went blind but could still do some of this work. My mother was pregnant with me and my grandmother bought the yarn and asked my auntie to crochet some outfits for me which were in pale green and the other I think was white because of course they didn't know if I was a boy or a girl back then. Off-topic but I think it should still be that way LOL. My mother lost her father in July while pregnant with me her mother in October I was born a couple weeks later in November. I can still feel my grandmother in the work that she did do all the stories my mother told me. I wish I would have learned more from my mother. I thought I had the time you know.

I am 51 yrs old, I remember sitting as a child with my grandma and mom listening to them talking about how they used to make these rugs using the reminents from a old textile kill they used to collect, as well as old sheets etc. They used to promise to teach me how to make one but ahh they never did. I made my 'needle' from a spatula handle that my black lab puppy chewed on. I cut off the wooden handle, drilled a hole in one end and tapered the other end. Works great!!!

Thank you! I think this must be how my great-grandmother made her rag rugs. I never saw her do it; by the time I knew her - 1950s - she mostly darned socks and crocheted hot pads. She probably used a discarded toothbrush like I did for a school potholder project - rounded end, not pointed.

Very good video! My Great Aunt Clara used to make these. I loved them. I was only 5 when she passed on. I was always longing to continue on with teaching this art to pass on to future generations. Next year it will go to the 5th generation from her to my great granddaughter!

Girlfriend, you have me excited. I was going to purchase some rugs for my bedroom, but after watching your video, for a second time, I'm like nah, I can make one or two like this!! This is the best video I’ve found for learning how to make toothbrush rugs. I made my needle from the wood of a small tree branch. It’s easier to hold. I cut all my strips at once and hang them over a cabinet door. A circle shape is much easier to get right than an oval. You need 2 Queen top-sheets to make one small rug. Also, much more enjoyable to stand while working.

You can even use paper clips, that's how I first learned how to do these. I couldn't remember how to do it so I came to KZread it hasn't failed me yet.

Thank you for this tutorial. It was easy to follow along with. I repurposed my son's crib sheets into a round rug for his room. A tip for everyone: use the smallest measuring spoon you have as your needle. I used my 1/8 tsp as it has a big hole on the handle and is skinny all the way down to the spoon.

The most interesting thing I learned ( besides how to make a rug) was how to join pieces of fabric without sewing them. AWESOME. Can't wait to rip up an old sheet and turn it into treasure,.

In crochet, we add one increase stitch every row. Gives a flat disc! I love this video, and can't wait to make one!

I used a large crochet hook too. Very nice. I like knits for bathroom rugs because they dry easily. And thinner strips makes a thinner rug. Slippage requires a liner underneath. I made ovals. Thanks for reminding me. Maybe I will make some again.

I crochet my blankets with my fingers, I fumble if I use a needle. I never thought about doing this way with a round rug and using sheets..... wow what a great idea. Thank you for sharing

My mother made these. I have 5 of them. My favorite is made of Daddy’s pajamas. He wore poly cotton pjs, so it has held up better than the cotton ones. She sewed the strips together. I am thrilled to see the method you use for this. Sh also just used a big crochet hook.
