How To Weave Rug Using Old Jeans 👖
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
Stunning weaving denim rug from old jeans ♻️
For this denim carpet i used: husband's jeans, my jeans, 4 pairs of kids jeans, two denim dresses, shorts.
I made 175 metres of ironed denim tapes. In the end my carpet size: length 147cm, width 74cm.

making a loom out of that clothing rack is GENIUS
Welcome to my sewing room. Everything gets covered in denim “dust”. I make quilts with scraps. I understand how much time goes into deconstructing the jeans. It’s a labor of love. You have inspired me to try my hand at a rug. Wish me luck.
Thank you for honestly representing how much, time, effort, planning, and fabric you put into this project. So many tutorials (particularly on weaving/rugs) gloss over those aspects. The precision, measuring, cutting, making the tape, ironing are the key to this professional result. There's nothing wrong with "rustic" rag rugs, made with rough cut/torn fabric strips the irregularities are part of their beauty. Seeing your project reinforces that it is important to have realistic expectations. Perfection requires extra effort and planning.
Pure genius to use that clothing rack as a loom. Your rug is beautiful.
Thank you for making this video available in English! This [work of art] is very original. May you and your sewing ministry be blessed.
I could listen you to you talk all day. Your voice is beautiful, calm, and relaxing.
Next time you make one of these rugs (which I must say, are VERY beautiful!!), and you're struggling to find enough denim, go to your local charity shops, and ask them to save all the pairs of jeans that are not good enough for sale which would only end up in the rag bags. If you offer to pay more than the rag man, they'll happily save them for you. I ended up with about 50 pairs of jeans when I was looking for denim for a project by doing this, and it only cost me about £5 for the lot!!

@@quix66hiya22 That's your choice, and I respect that. My choice is secondhand, to save the denim going into landfill, and I have no thoughts about 'where they have been', once I've washed and cleaned them thoroughly. I like to 'rescue' old clothing and turn it into something useable. That's just my preference. I do save a lot of money that way...just sayin ;-)
Как же красиво получилось, из джинсов очень нравятся коврики, браво 👏💯 хозяйке!!!
i love it wen ppl recycle,💚♻️ save d planet💞💞💞
И отличная идея - задействовать вешалку как станок👌😊
Thank you for your tutorial! I'm in the process of making my own rug now, following your directions. I bought four pairs of jeans (largest sizes I could find, just in case) at the thrift store for $10 (USD), used a seam ripper to take them apart, ironed all of the pieces, and am now in the process of cutting the strips. I bought some cotton rug warp (yarn) online, practiced tying a knot to keep it taut, and selected a rack in my apartment to use when I get to the weaving step. Thank you for your great video! I'm excited to see how my rug turns out, though it might be a while before it's finished. There are a lot of steps!

Очень здорово👏✊👍 Во всех этих переработках старых вещей мне нравится, что это не ушло на свалку и не загрязнило природу. Коврик очень хороший
I enjoyed watching ,it would have been nice to see how you removed it from your loom and how to finish the edge. turned out really nice.
Now I know for what I collected all our old jeans for the last years 😂 Thank you so much for this wonderful tutorial and sharing your experiences.
Потрясающе! Очень классный цвет и переходы тонов. Представляю, как приятен такой коврик наощупь!😍 Большая трудяга! Жаль только, что пустили ещё годные вещи, ведь много у кого есть действительно потрёпанные джинсы
Absolutely beautiful! Another project where I turn to my friend and say, “Janice, we can do this.” I have never woven anything in my life.
Это неплохая утилизация старых джинс ,спасибо за подсказку и за подробное видео ❤😊
I love this! I makes me want to make one out of all the old jeans that are too small for me. Instead of sitting in my closet making me sad, I could make something beautiful out of them ❤🧡💛💚💙💜

What a great gift this would make, using someone’s loved one’s jeans as a ‘memory’ item. So many other ideas too, so glad this popped up in my feed thanks!
Вы проделали огромную работу. Просто молодец! Классный результат. Золотые ручки.
I love weaving, and it's really easy to make a simple Loom as you did here... Taking something that is no longer good for the use it was intended for, and creating something that is, is so satisfying! This smaller version, is great for Placemats, and many smaller uses.. Well done!!! ❤
Your rug turned out beautifully! And, I know you must have a lot of patience as this involved so much prep time as well as engineering your own loom. Enjoyed your video!
This was simply stunning. And even though I know it represents a lot of time and work, it makes me want to weave my own jeans rug. Thank you!

Figuring out a shuttle and how to create a “shed” would be so helpful. For the shuttle you could sand down a paint stick and use a dremel to drill out an eye equal to the width of the strips with just a bit of give. For the shed you could use a wide yard-stick. Weave it between the waft vertically and twist it horizontally to get a channel the push which the shuttle can slide. Great work! I’d love to do this, maybe making 2 and sewing them as a living-room area rug.

I love this! Very inspiring! Even with all the prep work before the actual weaving.
Just stunning. It will last you for the rest of yr life. Thank you for shattering yr work.
I have waisted so many denim. I am jealous of the rug. Masterpiece ❤
Сколько работы! Ковер получился замечательный!

Прекрасная работа. Очень аккуратно и стильно смотрится
This is the most inspiring video tutorial I have seen on making this type of rug. I just wish she showed us how she attached each length of denim as she came to the end of each during weaving.

At the beginning, she showed sewing together with zig zag stitch on her machine. Probably still did that.
Your rug is amazing! Well done! Its a lot of work!
Exactly the inspiration I needed without the fancy tools. Been looking for a kitchen rug lately but could not find what I needed. It’s either too short or long and not the color combination I want.
Explained so well and I loved that you used regular tools that a sewer would have in their house and did not need specialized equipment.
Вот она, реальная смесь французского с нижегородским!!! Половик из джинсы! Мне понравилось. Никогда не думала освоить это ремесло, а тут прямо-таки захотелось
WELL DONE! Great way to show the whole idea!!! Beautiful. THANK YOU!
I made a quilt out of our old jeans and I really like this idea too. Your rug is so pretty!

😮 OMG!!! Thank you so much for posting this video and sharing your ideas. I just started weaving as a hobby and have been trying to figure out how to make a large loom at home so I can make blankets and your use of the clothes rack is genius. I don’t know why I didn’t think of it. I have one sitting in my home office and was going to give it away. I also have lots of denim from previous denim projects my mom and I made together. ❤ I’m going to use the denim and the clothes rack to make a rug like yours.

Sally Pointer, on you tube has a demonstration of making a rustic weighted floor loom. She demonstrates ancient skills. You might take a look, she makes the whole concept pretty clear
Your rug has the most appealing color gradation of all the inspiration photos you shared. I love how it is darker on the outsides and lighter with asymmetrical but balanced striping throughout the center. My top insipration!
this is not a rug, it's a piece of art!
You did a beautiful job! It's such a wonderful looking carpet. Congratulations on being so creative and thinking of new ways to do things. I have sympathy on finding out how much denim it takes to do a project - as I am crocheting a round ball-shaped cat bed from cut up blue jeans. One pair of jeans got me about 1/5 of the way into the project. I need 4 more pairs of jeans. A suggestion for weaving in future: the string you used for the warp threads looks like it is cotton. The cotton thread is not as strong as the denim. Over time, those strings are the weak link of your rug. Be careful washing it. Be careful running the vacuum cleaner over it. A stronger string material would be ideal. I know this because my mother used cotton warp in her rag rugs made on a loom - and the denim lasts forever but the warp gives out. Treat it kindly and you'll enjoy it a very long time. Thank you so much for sharing!

I thought the same. The white cotton would be the weak link. What do you suggest to replace the cotton string ????
@LL-oc1xw

@@diannenaworensky6698 I read that 50/50 blend of Polyester / Cotton loom warp is stronger by far. I'm not a synthetic fan, but if you want it to not break over time, synthetic will last longer. I searched under Rug Warps - Loom Weaving and found some weaving companies that specialize in selling warp. (My mom's decades old rugs are all coming apart from the cotton warp - but the denim fabric is still super sturdy. It's worth sourcing stronger warp.)
Such an amazing labor of love! It is gorgeous and you are so patient
Nice, and you could even occasionally weave in a strip or two of white jeans, and also use some colored thread. Love it
Absolutely brilliant using an upright wardrobe rack! I've been using picture frames and leaning them at an angle (I sit on the floor). Your wardrobe rack allows for a longer piece as well as a lighter weight and vertical placement that is easier on the back.

Plus the bottom wrack isn’t exactly below the top so you still get a nice angle.
This turned out beautifully! Thank you for sharing and inspiring!
Brilliant!! I'm so inspired. I'm a quilter and go to thrift stores (charity stores) to buy interesting old men's shirts for my quilting pieces. Great idea on getting old denim there too.
I have zero sewing skills, but I *loved* watching this. I will certainly use it at some point if I can.
Супер идея, как раз накопилось 10-12 старых джинсов, все не знала куда их использовать (выкинуть жалко). Теперь знаю) Счастья рукодельнице
Your rug is so beautiful! I love that you made it with only simple items.
Take my breath away beautiful!! So glad I stumbled by. 😊. I may give it a go. Reminds me of the potholders I used to make in grade school only on a much larger scale! Thanks for the memory. 💞
I love this! Do you just tie the ends of the strings at the edge? What kind of string is best to use? I even love the tiny one you made!!
Whoa... for those of us in the United States who do not have a comfort level with the metric system, 175 meters is just short of the length of TWO FOOTBALL FIELDS!!! THAT is a HUGE amount of work! Your project turned out beautifully but I have anxiety for you that, after all that work, the cotton string may not be sturdy enough, & your beautiful work will start to come apart. The good things is, you know how to fix it, so if you inspect the rug periodically, you should be able to stay ahead of any catastrophes! Nicely done... thank you for sharing with us! God bless!😇 [9.3.2023]

Really lovely carpet!! Would you agree that acrylic knitting yarn could be used for the strings? Do you think several carpets could be stitched together to make a larger sized carpet? Many thanks for sharing your project!❤
GORGEOUS!! Thanks for the tutorial!
This is such a good idea for reusing jeans. Jeans are hard for companies to reuse the material and it costs so much energy to make them including a lot of water from what i hear. But that rug turned out so beatiful it makes me want to make one. You have a great talent and could probably make some money from that. That rug will hold up for a while i believe. Thanks for sharing!! 😊❤
Such a lot of work but so satisfying when it is done! Beautiful results.

I love how your rug turned out! Thanks for sharing the process. I would like to make a smaller one for the front door and some placemats, using the denim strips. Feeling inspired 😊❤️
How clever! Thank you for sharing your beautiful rug project ♥
Your rug is impeccable! It came out perfectly! I see a lot of cool projects using old jeans, but all my old jeans are stretch denim and not very stable. I can get around this by adding lightweight stabilizer for quilting or sewing projects, but for weaving, I worry the spandex fibers would compromise the shape and structure. I have made things out of other garments, though. Weaving is so great for using up all kinds of fibers! While a lot of people are inspired and motivated to make crafts in a whirlwind weekend of fun, these types of scrappy projects are really the sort of thing that are stop-and-go tests of patience, because it often takes several years just to accumulate the materials (if you're sourcing it all from your own waste), so they are just perpetually in a state of ongoing. I admire your dedication to chronicle the entire process! Watching you cut everything with scissors made my hands hurt and reminded me of when I made my first quilt by cutting out triangles by hand 💀 For fast strip cutting, a rotary cutter with acrylic ruler and cutting mat would help a lot! If you want a way to keep the denim strips from opening up during weaving, you could stick them together with a water-based glue stick, and the glue will wash out in the laundry.
Beautiful work! So perfectly made. 💐
Beautiful rug! I would love to see how you actually manage such a long ribbon when weaving. So much effort but the end result was well worth it. I would love to try :)

Thank you for sharing this video, I was looking for a project to use my old jeans. Will be trying this soon.
I have been collecting jeans for a room sized rug I wanted to crochet. I have at least 50 pair. We have a free trading FB group in the US where you can ask for things toy need, or give things away. No cash is ever exchanged. I was able to ask the community for jeans that they intended to throw away. Rips, stains, didn’t care just cut out the problem areas. I got them all for free and kept a lot of fabric out of the landfill. Unfortunately, I can no longer crochet due to arthritis, but I have taken up weaving, so I do appreciate your video!
