    This will be the third time I’ve watched this particular video . Lol I got my penn 140 out of retirement and just knew it needed a thorough cleaning . But I got in a hurry and started disassembly before I figured out that there was probably a video to inform me how to do this . Lol . And I found your videos. Now to put this reel back together.

    Do you have the A/R override switch set to off? That switch is the little metal one that looks like a cloverleaf on the left side of the gear side plate near the 7 O'clock position. Try flipping the switch to see if it changes to anti-reverse mode. If it doesn't then you may have a problem inside the reel. Dennis

    Dennis, a question. I've completely cleaned and greased/lubed the reel as recommended. It needed it badly, but the parts look to be in great shape. But the cap washer on the drag stack is wavy, not flat at all. Is that normal, or should it be replaced, and can that be any similar sized stainless washer? Thanks, Jim

  • @2ndChanceTackle

    @2ndChanceTackle

    That wavy washer is correct. Its' purpose is to provide variable tension on the star adjuster - do not replace this with a standard washer - Thanks for asking - Dennis

    Wow I guess i am way too meticulous when i clean my reels. I separate everything and wash in soap water or sonic cleaner and toothbrush, clean with a towel and inspect. Also I use way too much grease, probably 5 times the grease i need. Great channel it this helps me sleep it is like meditation. Thank you.

    Thanks for sharing. You can clean the way you do. A normal service is not a restoration, but go ahead and spend the extra time on it. Too much grease can over clog a reel. Be careful there - Thanks - Dennis

    Have you ever had to repair cracks in the Bakelite handles? Would you have to use a very thin epoxy injected with a needle applicator to get the epoxy in them? My Squidder has two stress fractures at the base.

    Hi Dennis, Thank you for helping me repair my penn collection, but now I would like to add a squidder to my collection. Question….. Squidder 140 or Surf master 200? Metal spool or plastic? Thanks, David.

  • @2ndChanceTackle

    They are two different reels. The Squidder 140 is the Surfmaster 200 on steroids. The 140 has performance side plate bearings versus the 200. If you can just choose one, get the 140. Dennis

    I was given a Squidder a while back that has the take apart screw spring lost inside the drive side plate. Do you have any experience fishing one out and properly reinstalling it? I have my own ideas but I'll bet you've already "been there, seen it, done it."

    Best to remover the side plate and bridge, like shown in the video. If you can see the spring, you may try a toothpick or thin wire first, but it would be best to just remove the bridge and gears - Dennis

    I have the exact same reel but it will not engage the spool when I turn the handle to reel it in. What could be the issue?

  • @2ndChanceTackle

    @2ndChanceTackle

    2 жыл бұрын

    There could be several causes. Take the side plate off by removing the single screw and check visually. This sounds like broken line inside the gear side or a broken fork on the pinion gear. Also make sure that the side plate bearing on the non-gear side is snug. If it is out of adjustment, that could be a cause as well. - Dennis

    Dennis I have a left over piece. It’s similar to the main gear from the drag stock but smaller. There’s angled gear teeth on the outside of the “washer” and an inset on one side like the main gear. It’s a penn squidder 140. Any suggestion as to what I’m looking at as spare would be appreciated. In Scotland so I don’t think I can easily send the reel. Many thanks Dennis - regards David
