Thanks - it is if you take your time and have patience - Dennis
Possibly my favotite reel series, the 140,145, and 146. Great casting reels and solid performers. The Penn 500 Jigmaster is a favorite but I'd choose a Squidder over it for most applications. Thanks for the video!

Thanks for sharing! The 505 is the Jigmaster equivalent to the Squidder. It is also a nice reel - Dennis

Sure is. It is an aftermarket power handle made in the 1970s
I like the mods on this reel.

It increases the max drag by about 40% - that is nice

It is one of the best ever made. Thanks for the note and for watching
I'd be concerned about the extra drag twisting the frame under stress of big fish. The standard drags were up to the task of a derby winning salmon for me in a 140 Squidder.

You can always update to ht100 but the standard drags on these reels are fine. I agree you can induce twist with too much drag and leverage.

Any you can save the twist by using the drags properly. It's when they go into lock down that the twist has not where to go. A properly adjusted drag will take the pressure off of the frame. Thanks
Dennis, what bearing oil would you recommend ? I have Penn blue reel grease, Corrosion X for wipe downs. I was thinking Reel X or Penn Reel Oil. Thanks, love your video's

They are all fine - I use ReelX, Penn and Lucas. I don't have a preference. Thanks for asking - Dennis
Dennis that is a heavy upgrade , is that drag and handle upgrade over kill without going to an aluminum spool and spacer bars ?

The base reel can handle it, but the spacer bars would be nice too!

I would definitely change to an aluminum spool if it was mine.
Hi Dennis, I've watched a ton of your videos and enjoyed every one. Thank you for posting them. Quick question, stopped at tackle shop in DE that had carbontex drags in stock and thought I'd grab some to upgrade my 209. He told me I had to upgrade the metal washers from the brass to metal because the brass was too soft. I would like your thoughts. Thank you and keep up the great work.

It is a fair observation and the steel washers would be stronger than the brass. My question is how much are you using your reel. If it is a daily go to reel with heavy use, then I would agree with the tackle shop. Are you using it several times a year (less that 2 dozen during the season?). Then I would say it is optional. - Dennis

Depending on when the reel was made. The "L" designation is for a metal spool. Early spools were chrome plated. Later spools were aluminum
