    Thank you soo much for this video!! After watching this I was able to disassemble, clean, and fix the anti-reverse on my 4500ss and 5500ss reels that I purchased new when I was a much younger man. You also gave me the confidence to disassemble and clean my 7500ss. Now, all of my (now vintage, lol) Made In USA Penn reels are working properly!! Awesome stuff bro!!

    Appreciate the video. Several pieces of my 4500SS are different. Also, when I put the shaft in and align the cross block the shaft will not move. It is locked in place. Ive spent about three hours watching this video over and over and cannot get this reel put back together and working. Im buying a different reel

    You're welcome and thanks for checking it out. Sorry to hear you're having difficulty with the reel.... there are minimal parts that can be different on this specific reel.... all I can think of is in the anti-reverse area. Not everyone should service their own reel, even with step step instructions. I don't know what you did/didn't do, but if there was nothing wrong with your reel and you followed along with my video (when you first disassembled it) and made pictorial and/or mental notes of the differences when you encountered them, there should be no issues putting it back together. Sorry to hear you're giving up on the reel.... don't trash it.... donate it to your local tackle shop. What reel are you planning on buying?

    Sir....I found an old 4500ss in my parents' garage a few weeks ago (they have both passed), and although it is in excellent condition, it badly needed to be broken down, cleaned and regreased. I initially took a cursory look at it, and it intimidated me a little. After practically memorizing your tutorial, I felt empowered. The reel now looks and feels like it did on the day it left the factory. Thank you for an excellent presentation. I have two questions if you don't mind. What is different about "drag grease" compared to other greases? I'm actually having some trouble finding it. Is there a particular brand that you pefer? And my second question with no obligation to answer is...what is your first name?

    Thanks for watching, Ernest. Sorry to hear your parents are no longer with us, but happy you were able to honor them by restoring the reel. Many people use regular fishing reel grease to grease their drag washers (spinning reels) without experiencing issues. Drag grease (I use Cal's) has a higher melting point. Although it's unlikely the average fisherman will encounter a fish that brings that into play, why chance it? You can find Cal's on eBay, smooth drag and mystic reel parts. You can also leave the washers dry if you prefer not to worry about the added cost or which grease to use.

    I just bought a 4500ss vintage reel. It looks like it was never used. But the spool rubs on the rotor when I reel it. Also the drag knob tightened all the way still alows the line to be pulled off the spool. Can you help me trouble shoot this?

    Hi, not usually. You can use oil like WD-40 to help break down dried grease.... otherwise, wiping it with paper towels and/or q-tips suffices.

    on mine the bearing is stuck on the main gear??? guess its peened? My bearing is good but i need a new gear how do you get the bearing off the top of the main gear?

  • @TSGReelService

    @TSGReelService

    3 жыл бұрын

    It's not peened. Since the mg is going to replaced, you can take a vice to the post until it's small enough to slip the bearing over.
