If my Zoom meeting started and Matt Christman filled the entire frame, I might actually die.

It's kinda ironic that the reasons Matt gives for his not being a good leader are precisely the qualities that make him one.

@@JohnathonBealsGrizzlyMan I gotta say, _Dune 2_ had a better grasp of the role of religion in politics than I'd expect from a big-budget Hollywood film. Better than Frank Herbert's books, frankly. What literal-minded dullards like Christopher Hitchens can't seem to understand is that eschatological belief is largely irrelevant when you're talking about religious movements. If you talk to people who've participated in sectarian conflicts, from Ireland to Syria to Iran, you'll find very often that even those who are fully committed to fighting and dying for their cause don't necessarily 'believe' in the literal truth of scripture or whatever (what 'belief' even means in this context is another question entirely).

I've been binging Christman since his medical emergency, and this was a great find. Almost an interesting corrective to hear Matt when he's obviously feeling very low about things. And fascinating on the specific points I disagree with him even as he's saying many of the same things I've agreed with in other contexts. Mood and vibes are real. I personally think co-ops are great, and plan to check out more of the channel.

Placid certainity is a recipe for disaster. I love Cushvlog and Matt. 16:56 A new emergence maybe is in the deconstruction deconversion of religion group. They are natual to left politics but need more political education as a whole. 41:50 41:51 Matt is an artist and that is what he is supposed to do. His art helps us consider what we are supposed to do. He has to "be alone" to some degree to do his art. This is different from people who are, for instance, creating co- ops.

I think the best way to get at this is the illusory contradiction between "individualism" and "collectivism". When Descartes says, _"cogito ergo sum"_ he fails to explain how one can "cogito" in the first place, which is primarily through language - an inherently collaborative consensus of _meaning_ . Every layer of our social reality - law, culture, etc. - is one added through this collaborative effort, but as that Marx guy points out, on top of our _material_ organization of reality in terms of ownership and control. Any class-based society is fundamentally built upon a lie of universalism and consensus that must continually diminish that foundational consensus of meaning to sustain itself and over time we reach more stark ruptures of contradiction, leading inevitably to less and less of an ability to "cogito" at all without that consensus of meaning, and therefore we _aren't_ , if that makes any sense.

Well that and "collectivism" was literally a racist 19th century anthropological concept meant to suggest that eastern races had insect hive minds, which was then repurposed post-WW2 to emphasize an artificial sense of similarity between fascism and communism, and distinction from liberal democracy. Not a serious scholarly category.

14:08 into the video and just wanna say to add as a random data point here (i.e. scream into the void): i have a real job and have had a similar shift in my day to day experience of it, and the non-work life outside of it too. largely brought about, i think, by an obsession with george bataille's notion of expenditure -- i just liked the framing of any economy as being an economy of energy moving in physical space, and i think it was only possible for me personally to really internalize it to the point letting it unconsciously guide my day-to-day experiencing of the world after letting my concept of "self" die. because the arbitrary boundary between the energy that makes up whatever i can know as "self" is just a dotted line drawn on the larger system of energy that will move regardless. and i feel lighter, and more able, and more hopeful, and more kind, and with more purpose every day because the energy will move regardless. :)

Maybe he relaxes later in the video, but he’s being too gentle with Matt!! ☹️ You are supposed to be brothers in Spirituality!!! Be REAL WITH EACH OTHER!!! ASK HIM ABOUT PSYCHEDELICS, DOG!! Matt *needs* people to check him. (Like Amber). And amongst other believers, he needs to be given permission and encouragement to really start talking about ✨THE MYSTERY✨💚 About THE ONE ☝️ I sympathize with the interviewer’s fear tho. Matt is “ornery”, …and still limited by the ambient Atheism of his peers. He always apologizes for his Spiritual-talk on Cushvlog, asking “did that make sense?” YOU *KNOW* IT MADE SENSE MATT!!!! It was told to you via DIRECT PERSONAL GNOSIS, FOOL!!! The interviewer should have forced him to LIVE OUT his faith in this heart to heart! LUTHER WOULD HAVE!!! And Matt would have ultimately LOVED IT, if a Luther-type got in his face with some robust spirit-talk! This talk suffers from shame, and is hiding its’ True Self, from our materialist scientific reductionist age. You need to let that Light ✨❤️‍🔥SHINE❤️‍🔥✨, Sir!! 🫡 💖

28:20 Labor crisis was just one of the moments in capitalism mentioned by Marx. A crisis can happen in different ways not just at the point of labor in production process. I think people should move past focusing exclusively on labor alone because it will be 1,000 years before much headway is made here. If workers in Bangladesh aren't organizing why would workers across the US organize suddenly? Obviously I support labor but it's sort of a pigeonhole to focus exclusively on that and is why I think it doesn't resonate with the broader population

@@MClaudiusMarcellusim a huge fan of Matt and CushVlog but he is absolutely painful to listen to when he is exploring why he is resigned to inaction/defeat. We will *never* win if we don't have people organizing and building the left before some imaginea "right moment" presents itself. Encouraging people to sit on the sidelines until something comes along is cowardly, backwards, and painful to listen to. We need less terminally online blowhards and more people out there building and learning through action. "Wishing them well" like Matt is doing here is cowardly bs.

Using a large platform to validate leftists who contribute nothing is actually harmful. How hard is it to simply recommend that people seek out and join leftist organizations that appeal to them.
