I think he can pull a Marino and get the best out of Graves.

Keeping the "D" basically if not completely in tact..........MISTAKE!!!! This hoping crap gets real old real quick! At this point, my excitement of having Dubas is quickly cooling for sure. Just my thoughts. Great show guys.

I wonder if Vellucci goes back to WBS, and they hire one more assistant at this top level. I was under the impression Vellucci preferred to be an AHL HC vs an NHL assistant

Here's something to think about with the defense. Much of the season the bottom 2 forward lines were pretty bad. Add some youth, speed, and grind to the bottom lines and that will help with the defense. The issue with the defense is they really will have a hard time to move on especially with Graves. We'll see wht happens.

i cant believe that they are staying with the same pairings on defense and the strategy is hoping that POJ grows and graves changes.

I know it’s suboptimal to have Graves on 3rd pair but the small sample size of St Ivany and Graves gives me a little hope that he can find his game in some way here. Possibly a trade deadline trade potential

It's insane not to change the defensive core. It's acceptable to keep Karlsson, Petterson Tanger and St.Ivany, but not the rest of the bottom six.

since sullivan was involved in the hiring, does sullivan take this as "they hired a friend of mine at my recommendation" or "this guy could replace me as he also has Fenway connections"?

I think the blue line disaster started with summer of 2022. Hextall trading marino and matheson the blueline was 12th ranked in the league. Plenty of young cheap assets were dealt all in the name of jeff petry. Made the blueline big slow and expensive. Dubas had limited options to fix all hextall mistakes. He did the best he could. Cant really move graves with no team willing to take him.

I'm not sure why anyone expected anything different. Letang isn't going anywhere. Pettersson isn't going anywhere. POJ and St. Ivany are the type of cheap, 3rd pairing depth we need. Which leaves Graves and Karlsson...who are both virtually unmovable with their contracts. The only way they could move Graves would be taking on another poor contract...something like Graves for Kotkaniemi. Best hope is that Graves rebounds to where he either plays close to what they expected when they signed him, or he ups his value enough to be tradeable next summer.

i really am not mad at them trying graves out again. let em try to get another year under him, though if hes strggling this hard by deadline or even after the new year, try to move on with em i would say

Get a coach who can actually get them to give and receive passes. This year was freaking PAINFUL to watch-30% of passes on target.

Agreed! Or the hesitancy and overpassing. End of season they were reaping the reward of putting pucks on net, getting deflections and rebounds for easy goals. Shoot. The. Puck.

@@kevalways9127 it’s like the Pens take hit on the tank at the bench…suddenly they cannot clear/ connect for 10 mins. Passes behind a breaking winger, in the skates, to nowhere….

So disappointed if this is all true......my hope would be to trade Jarry and PO Joseph to a team (Edmonton or LA) and beef up bottom 6, high draft, and prospect. That would free up $ for Zadorov and Petterson, place Graves 3rd pairing.

Graves is pathetic and so is the GM for thinking he is worth bringing back! He just doesn’t want to admit he made a terrible trade getting graves! Dubious doesn’t strike me as someone who is in a hurry to sign better players for Sid and Geno to make another run at the cup.

Not signing another big ticket free agent defenseman is holding Sullivan accountable. Sullivan wanted Graves. This is Dubas saying you wanted him. Coach him up. How much money can you throw at a defense? The top 4 accounts for almost 25 million and he has to resign MP28. Sullivan wanted Graves.
