Very excited for this. My sister has a PhD in medieval literature and she's going to flip over this game

I was a DM last week in a RPG event right here in Rio de Janeiro with an one shot with a brazilian scenarium baseed in arturian legends called "Avalon Chronicles". It's a bit old that uses D&D 3.5, and was SO EPIC hahaha! I hope Pendagron comes to Brazil, because I love king Arthur legends!

Pendragon seems like a very sophisticated role playing game! I've been playing role playing games since the early 90's, I don't understand how I have missed this game. I immediately went and purchased this starter kit 6th edition after watching your great video about this great game! Thank you for introducing me to this!

@@Thegaminggang funny thing was the day before I was wondering if I could try and get a dm to run a Arthur style campaign in dnd not knowing that this existed. Needless to say I will be getting it sooner than later :)

Great Review - I'm really pleased with how they've put together the Starter Set (although, as you said, not a surprise for Chaosium). Funny to remember the first edition (with the whole game in it) was in roughly the same sized box, but this is certainly easier for new players and GMs. It was also nice to notice Beverly D'Angelo landed a cameo appearance on p.27 of the Solo Adventure!

Loved the Review. I got this one coming in the mail, I have the 5.2e Corebook on the shelf but sadly haven't been able to play/run it so I can't wait to take my gang on a ride through this.

I played a short campaign of Pendragon a while back and played a Cymric knight who was just goofy as heck XD And I agree, allowing female knights is a good inclusion and one that's been with the system since its early days though I hope in the full ruleset we also get rules to play non-knights (lords and ladies, not magic users like Merlin of course!)

One thing that bothers me quite a lot is that Pendragon is set in the beginning of the VI century, but almost all of the art I've seen from the books shows illustrations, clothing, arms and armours from at least _half a millennium_ later, and even more! We see great helms from the XIII century, longswords from the XIV century, and on the cover of Pendragon 5.2 there's even a full plate harness with a frog-mouth helm; that's from the XV century, it's much closer in time to _us_ than to king Arthur Pendragon. And yes, I do understand that the iconography is informed more by the time period of the books written about the Arthurian legends (such as Le Morte d'Arthur) rather than their actual historical setting, but I would have preferred a more historical treatment in the game.

Not only the iconography, but almost everything in Pendragon is based on Malory and the rest. It is a game of Arthurian Romance, not of Early Medieval Britain, and the rules reflect that. "A more historical treatment" would mean a completely different game. Everyone from the developers to the people playing the game are aware of the anachronisms, and the rulebook itself acknowledges it.

There is little to nothing that is “historical” when it comes to Arthurian legend. The game you seem to want sounds very similar to a GURPS campaign I once ran using their Celtic Myth supplement. It was set in first century Britain, a few decades before the Roman invasion, and I went to great lengths to keep it as historical as possible. Steve Jackson’s GURPS is great because you can use it in virtually any type of setting, historical or otherwise. You could definitely do the same with Chaosium’s BRP system as well, and that’s what Runequest, Call of Cthulhu, and Pendragon are all based on. Those games are not meant to be historical, though.
