    I glue the nibs of my 005s in place with a tiny dab of extra thin super glue. You still have to be relatively gentle with them, but the nibs don't gradually shuffle into the metal collar as they do when used straight out of the pack.

    Having fun with looking around. An interesting thing about the plain old Papermate 1.0 ,which you can find 60 for about 20 bucks, is the range from light to real black you can get from them. I draw on newspaper, and I can go from barely there to solid black. In other words it can draw like a hard graphite pencil or a normal pen. Worth knowing about.

    these pens are the best I've tried! Their ink flows surprisingly well, and no fuzzy lines have appeared. I use a 1mm and 0.35 mm pen for my inking, and I love it! They might be a bit pricey for starting artists, but I think their worth it. I've no problems with them. Maybe those Faber Castell pens are better, but I bet their a ton of money! That why personally I recommend these, and not some unknown edding pens that are like 10 cents

    Hi Peter, Thanks for the informative video. I was wondering if you could help with a query. I bought similar pens by Staedtler and was quite frustrated when using them, mainly because of how I needed to hold the pens almost vertical of the flow stopped causing a broken line. I wonder if this is something which is common with this pen type of was it something I was doing wrong ! Thanks

    However when I used them, my favorite 0.05 Pen's nib got shoved up. But ig its prefferable to use that for inking manga eyes ,I don't recommend inking a whole pic with that one pen doe.

    Do you prefer thin tipped felt or gel pens? If you like gel tips, I can recommend the Uni Signo UMN-155 (RT1). They are archival proof as well, and the sizes available are .28 mm and 38 mm. The reason I asked is I do not like felt tips as they seem thicker than their tip sizes, and with the Micron, as people said, the ink runs out FAST.

    Do the pigma microns bleed through? I'm a medical student and take notes on printer paper on both sides so I'm trying to find a pen with the feel of using a mechanical pencil but I have to switch to pens because all my old notes smeared over time. I have considered buying 32 lb hp premium printer paper to avoid bleeding but I don't want to buy the microns until I am sure they won't bleed through, what's your thoughts? Thanks!

    Those pens are great, problem is, the final product would not be as darker as one done with Dip Pens. This is annoing because the drawing became kind of greyish and loses a bite of power. Just go to photoshop and work on the contrast.

    I've been using these for about 5 years now. Most other stuff seems to fade or cause papers to yellow after exposure to light (for years). Depending on how I use these sometimes the tips actually improve with time getting finer and finer. I have some old ones that I set aside for special degrees of detail.

  • @MatthewKiehl

    @MatthewKiehl

    Yes, often illustrators use microns to lay in details then they use watercolor on top. Watercolors work really well as a way to add color to drawings made with microns. The ink in micros is completely waterproof once dry so it shouldn't run at all. I sometimes use a method of soaking my paper after drawing, then applying watercolor while the paper is wet - even doing this the ink does not spread or run.

    I used to think that these pens were expensive too. But after scanning through Amazon reviews I realize now that it all comes down to quality.

    I wish I found this video before I bought my pen because I got the 0.25mm thinking it was the biggest size because I was only looking at the 01 part

    So glad you explained why they tend to fatten up as I write - then nibs degrade. I love these pens but didn't realize what was happening - thanks so much!

    You have to be very sensitive with the pens. It is ink after all, almost no pressure need be applied.

    I tend to always get the UNI PIN ones, they flow, don't shade if erased and they are truly waterproof (you can watercolor on then, unless you make dots, don't really know why) Peter, can you compare them and tell us what?
