Peltier Mini-Dehumidifier Repair

Ғылым және технология

In this video we look at a Mini-Dehumidifier that uses the Peltier Thermoelectric Technology to dry the air. It is very quite and does not use much power. It is pretty slow so only good for a small room and it has an issue with the switches as shared in the repair. I did not know if this repair would help anyone else with one of these that may be having issues. After it has failed twice now I decided to not only post the repair, but also take time to share an idea on replacement switches that could help this unit last. I will also share a watch out if replacing the switches so the bucket does not overflow on you. Hope you find this video helpful and thanks for watching!

Yeah I feel your pain on this one. My purchase was for humidfiers in our CCRC facility. Found that the ultra sonic device would fail . Once I was able to source a supplier I ended up with better ultrasonic device and more moisture output. It all comes down to the "made where" declare on package. Thanks for the look!

I always find it interesting to see whats inside things and how they work - thanks for the video! I cant help but thinking - it would have been so easy for them to use a couple of photointerrupter type sensors, a MOSFET, and a few other cheap components in place of the switches. Not only would it last much longer but would probably be cheaper to make.

Hey, thanks for the video. Any idea what to look for when doesn’t collect water?

It does take time. I will assume you have let it run for days and still no water? It is a simple device with few parts. Power has to be to the Peltier device and the fan has to move air across the fins. Make sure power is getting to the Peltier devices usually wired in series. They will be the highest load in the system, usually around 4 or 5 amps at 18V or so. If you have a way to check current I would check that. The fan only takes .5 to maybe 1Amp to run it. Hope it helps. Best of luck to ya!

I have this same model. The issue presented it self in the same way as this one you had. If I wanted to, would I be able to just snip the wires and connect them directly, circumventing the switch? I tried doing that, but it didn't fix it, so I'm curious if it might be a different issue or if just connecting the wires doesn't work how I would expect it to. Thanks!

I have had a power supply failure as well and have a video on that repair. Other than that the unit should work, but realize the switches work like Bin in place and then level full. If level is not full and bin is in place then it will run.

Hi I have the same dehumidifier. How did u get the bottom 3 screws out? The piece blocking the L shaped tabs at the bottom. Thanks!!

  • @ThriftyToolShed

Mine simply had 3 screws in the bottom. Some of the models may have the screws covered with a felt or rubber pad. After the 3 screws were removed mine simply had the L-shaped catches as shown in the video and you could pop it apart.

I could tell how the switch was wired and I should have shared it on video or at the very least shared a really quick wiring diagram...

Ty. I just removed everything, including the circuit board, the fan...the microswitches, then reconnected...fan suddenly is working again. Seems it may not be gathering as much water as it used to....any suggestions? Thank you so much!

Hi, It is a slow dehumidifier for sure. If it does not work well check to make sure the power is getting to the Peltier devices behind the heatsink. Typically the power to the fan is also going to the Peltier devices. Other than making sure the heatsink is clean, I can't think of anything else to check other than the Peltier devices itself to make sure they are getting cool on one side and warmer on the opposite side. If they have power they should be showing the temperature difference. Best of luck to ya!

Can you just put a hose on the bucket & never have to work my about the switches on a new unit?

  • @ThriftyToolShed

    @ThriftyToolShed

    Жыл бұрын

Well it's not designed for a hose like the bigger dehumidifiers, so you would have to get creative with a bulk head style fitting with a gasket or o-ring etc.

I would imagine so. It runs at 18VDC I believe so it may work fine at the 14-15 volts while the alternator is putting out. It will do even less work with lower voltage for sure. I believe the Peltier devices are 12V in series? Can't remember about the fan...

@@verygoodbrother I gotcha, it is a very slow device. It may help, but my thoughts are that it will need more time. It takes about a week to fill up in our bedroom and we need the dehumidifiers running all the time to maintain less than 50% so it's running all the time.
