Pelican Catch 100 DIY Custom Kayak Skeg
Build a DIY custom mount on your Pelican Catch 100 kayak using an Advanced Elements fixed kayak skeg (About $70). This will keep your 10 foot 34” wide tunnel hull from spinning around in circles; while keeping the tracking true. You can build your own custom mount or use any rudder/skeg you want; but, this is one that works for me in my opinion. I had to also make a 6” mount hatch ($13 from Amazon) in the stern in order to access. The hardware is stainless or nickel plated from Home Depot ($10 bucks). The mount is from an old cutting board l found laying around the house that I cut, glued (marine goop) and drilled. AMeasure twice cut once! This video is is for informational purposes and you should only try at your own risk to yourself and your gear or seek a professional!

Just did this mod to my Pelican Catch 100 classic and the difference is amazing. She be steady now.
Just finished putting one on my catch 120. Game changer.
Installed one on my catch 100, what a diffetence!! So much more stability, as well as tracking. Thanks again for inspiration
I have been really trying to find a way to keep it from turning all the time. Thanks for your video it works well.
Looks way better! Well done. This is the only thing I want to add, much needed improvement.

Nice job!
Great job
Great idea Is there a way to mount on 2013 Pro Angler Thx Cliff
That's probably what i'll do, put a rudder on. i'm going to wait for the c-100 pedal so it will come with it's own rudder.
Papatechie, You are right the Pelican Catch 100 needs to have a skeg. Can you tell me the dimension size of the block you made out the cutting board?
That’s awesome I just bought the same kayak and it did not want to stay on track. What did that skag run u
Nice!
Looks well thought out - good job! How has this held up after a year? Anything you'd change?

How is the stability for you? Respectfully ... you seem like a pretty big guy. Can you stand up in it on the water? Or does it feel tippy?

Actually, I got it to help lose weight without added knee stress and have been mainly focused on paddling different spots from creeks, lakes and the ocean. Did not stand up yet because i had no desire to but it feels stable by the two hull pontoon design.
Where did you find this?
After 6 months have you done anything different with the skeg? From the video it didn't look like much of the skeg was submerged when you deployed it.

Haven't changed anything and it works great for me.
Why is there orange pool noodle inside the hull?

When ocean kayaking it will displace water should a disaster occur.

@@OJA1965 pool noodles don't help with stability just water displacement if hill gets flooded
Weird question: but what’s with the pool noodles?

But he is using it as a skeg, and having just bought the Catch 100 myself, it needs it. I think this is better than putting a skeg on the bottom. I want to do something similar, but I don't want to drill
