Pele was an amazing player I have seen innumerable videos and full matches of him, and he never stops amazing me. People who claim Maradona is best have not considered Pele or used the same standard to judge Pele. There is simply no category that Maradona is better than Pele. Some say that he had better dribbling skills but I have found Pele to do all the same things, with both feet! Being just as amazing and unpredictable as anyone that has played or knows anything about football.

That's true, there were some total thugs back in Pele's day (eg portugal in WC66), but to be fair Maradona didn't have it too easy in the eighties either (e.g. the tackle from behind wasn't banned till the 90's). While Messi playing alongside Xavi, Villa, Iniesta and Pedro scored only 31. Messi can't do well for his country as well. Playing with Tevez, Aguero and lots of other cracks while CR plays with Nani and Quaresma and he do makes the difference for Portugal.

actually zidane is great. see in 2006, he have a crappy team yet managed to lead them to finals. in 2002 he was out and the team got shit and lost in the first game. in 1998 zidane was there and his team was victorious. so technically zidane isn't overrated, he is a legend.

it would be difficult to compare them. I was born in 1975, to me and many my age Maradona will be the best. However for who ever is older than me Pele is. Different players different enviroments. If Maradona would of play in the USA, he probably would of score more goals. If Pele would of play in teams in South America or Europe the amounts of goals would have been less. However to be the best player does not mean have the most goal, it means to share the field and to be a good team player.

P.S. For what it's worth, I think Maradona was better than Pele because, as Diego pointed out himself in previous interviews, Pele played before the era of the pressing game, so he always had a couple of seconds to decide what he wanted to do with the ball once he received it, but Maradona played in the pressing, tight marking era against fitter, stronger, better trained defenders, so he always had a couple of markers on him before he even got the ball! P.S. I'm english so I'm not biased.

Whilst Maradona set a fine gal up againt Brazil in 1990 and played some good football, he was not the catalyst in 1990 and his injury was overplayed. The key player in 1990 by far and away was Goyochea and the defence like it had been a year earlier in the COPA Americas. The 1989 Copas saw Argentina score just 2 goals in 7 games, and after the World Cup 90 the team had scored just 7 goals in 14 competitive games. Yet the great defence had 8 clean sheets in 14 matches.

In 1966 Garrinhca was already 33 or 34 years old, Pele wasn't even playing at that age for his country. Garrincha did more for Brazil than Pele for sure. He won almost on himself WC1962 ( 2nd most dominant performance ever at WC after Maradona's 1986)
