Absolutely
Generally Brits are MAD... and BRAVE! I remember about another officer (British Commandos too) who was CHARGING holding a... medieval BROAD SWORD and... he was shooting arrows with his long bow!!!
Just been there. As a veteran, it is an amazing place that is rich in military history and memorials since that fateful night. I spoke to madam about her parents in the Cafe Gondree also which was a privilage.

3:29 Those drone shots of the probably flight path of that first glider are incredible. Amazing they got so close.
Headed to pegasus bridge in 20 min! Great overview, really adds context to the bravery of the troops on that day

Great video. Thank you.
About 10 years ago whilst living in Germany I watched a documentary on the Pegasus bridge action. They ( German TV ) interview french lady who owned a cafe close to the bridge. She said to the German reporter that they were so upset about the whole thing and really miss the German friends who were stationed there. A British reporter did the same interview and asked more or less the same kind of questions. This was done after the bugles of the green Jackets had completed their ceremony by marching across the bridge. The very same lady said to the reporter that they were so pleased and relieved when the brave British took the bridge and kicked out the Germans. Hmm
Another neat video. Well done! 👍

the death of Herbert Denham “Den” Brotheridge, considered the first allied officer to have been killed in the ground fighting on D-Day. The theory of a fratricidal fire is supported by the author on the basis of the testimonies collected during his various interviews. Von Keusgen furthermore considers that the accidental death of “Den”, deputy officer and friend of Major Howard commanding English troops, would have been a well-kept secret by British veterans

@@thehistoryexplorer - Great videos. Going though a few. They leave a lump in the throat and moisten the eyes. Grew up with this stuff growing up in the 70s. Still as much in awe of the feats of heroism now as then, probably even more so. The Greatest Generation.
My dad was on this raid. He was shot in the leg but had a British penny in his pocket. The penny deflected the bullet. He carried that penny all of his life.
