    I worked in an UC and was around LOTS of coughing children. We wore masks before Covid days (mostly influenza) and rarely got sick! Our adult IM docs were required to see kids even if they weren't comfortable treating them. Get as comfortable as you can while you have the chance! Our country needs a major public health campaign about caring for sick kids at home and when to head to the ER.

    Having spent a lot of time at children's hospitals, it's really a different environment. I've seen a lot of Seattle Children's lately, and it's all about the kids and supporting the parents. I've also absolutely adored all the pediatric ER docs I've seen, so thank you for all you do.

    Not sure why, but kids don’t seem to pass viruses/Illnesses on to adults. Stomach bug is the exception....if your kid has stomach virus, The whole house is going to get it. Once asked my ped my every time my kid was sick, friends would insist that I take her in to be seen. He said that Americans are very spoiled and overuse the healthcare system. Said that if she didn’t have a fever for over 3 days or any vomiting wasn’t showing sinking of navel area, there wasn’t anything he could do. I appreciated his advice. My daughter is not a junior/premed and thriving. Really love your vlogs.

    Hi Precious! I've never been a fan of working the night shift. "Children aren't little ppl." "They're just different." That's another perspective on kids. I remember how it was when my son was small. He'd get a fever from time to time. I'd refer to a book my friend gave me, "What to Expect When Expecting". It helped a lot. Depending on the parent and child, fevers can be scary. That's awesome. You're comfortable with intubation. I know that takes a lot of practice and steady hands. How do you remain calm and focused?

    I definitely see how fevers can scary. The fear of the unknown! As far as staying calm during the procedure. I just try to practice the steps over and over in my head and focus in on the patient.

    I can understand how pediatricians can get sick because when I was little I went for a check up at the pediatrician and got a cold! Sounds like you have everything in place for the wedding!

    Hi Precious, Loving the vlogs! Keep them up! What's your opinion on the new ACEP article on oversaturation of EM providers? Have you read this by any chance? Should this dissuade someone from EM?

  • @WhiteCoatChronicles

    @WhiteCoatChronicles

    I haven't read it, but it's definitely a concern. I know a few graduating residents who still haven't secured an Attending job for this upcoming summer. I can't really comment on if this should dissuade people from EM. COVID has made the EM job market much work. I don't know what the future will hold.

    Meningitis! I have been starting to think that I am watching so many medical dramas that I am coming up with zebras when things should just be horses. But that was a little bit reassuring. Also I did watch a lot of ER a few years ago. I know you were buried in school and I was watching ER four times through. Do kids make you sick? A friend of mine used to work at a daycare. She was sick all the time. And those are the kids that are supposedly healthy. Back when I was a kid I was actually just 18 and I was in the hospital and back in those days, they didn't allow children to visit in hospitals. It was something to do with all the germs (from the children.) Of course now no one visits or I'm guessing that's still the case. I don't even know. I have been trying really really hard for like 20 years to stay out of the ER and especially for the past 12 years and then even more so since last spring. And so far I'm holding on. Last spring I had killer asthma from allergies. And it went on all week. Managed to convince my doctor to give me some atrovent for my nebulizer. It was like a box of 25 I used five of them, but it kept me out of the ER. And hey, it wasn't steroids for a change. Usually I'm like, please could I have some prednisone? But I had a sore throat too from the sprigs of pollen that were in my hair when I fell asleep apparently. And so I was using the nebulizer anyway. And the albuterol wasn't cutting it. So that happened and it worked out and there were like two other times in the past year that I've actually taken one ampule. But otherwise things have been under control. But yeah back in the olden days you didn't let kids into hospitals to visit because they were like walking germs. And in case you're wondering how ancient I am, that was like back in 1977. 60 years old is just not what it was when I was a little kid. I think my grandmothers were like 60 years old when they died. They were old they had white hair I was very young and I don't remember my grandfathers, the last one died when I was 2. 60 years old was older back then. Orlando is hot! I'm on the Gulf Coast but south of Gainesville. More Clearwater St Pete. It's not as hot. It never gets to 100 like it does in Boston. Circadian rhythms. Such fun. As you can tell by the fact that it is 5:00 in the morning, mine are currently broken. I really liked the part where you talked about what patients were coming in with. That was my favorite part. Hope you have a fantastic wedding

    The meal cards are specific to residents that rotate at this specific hospital a couple of months out of the year. At other hospitals residents can eat for free too. Not necessarily a “meal card” but allotted a certain amount per month
