Pediatric Aquatic Physical Therapy Improves Balance Reactions for Walking!

Ойын-сауық

Walking involves the coordination of both the sensory and motor system. Balance, strength, equilibrium reactions and motor planning are key components to independent walking.
Ailene Tisser Pediatric Physical Therapist and co-founder of Swim Angelfish, demonstrates how to use physical therapy techniques along with the properties of the water to improve balance and equilibrium reactions.
In this physical therapy treatment session, our goal is to help Victoria walk independently. By supporting her to move in ways that might not be possible on land. She was able to translate what she experienced in the water, due to buoyancy and viscosity, allowing her time to adjust her balance reactions. Notice how she can walk more fluidly following the aquatic therapy.
In this video, we used equipment like weights, floatation devices and the Orca Swim Trainer to help Victoria figure out how to use automatic balance reactions.
