Peach Batter Pudding

Recipe Below:
Peach Batter Pudding. Oh, it sounds good. Good ingredients, juicy peaches, a little cinnamon and mace. It should be good. I baked it in the air fryer on bake at 350 degrees for about 55 minutes. I let it cool. I take out a big spoonful. My first bite was disappointing. It's gummy, has no spice flavor, and is not sweet. The dessert didn't taste horrible, but it wasn't giving me any pleasure or enjoyment. It kinda reminded me of a Dutch Baby. I took it to my sister's and asked her to taste and critique it. She agreed that it was gummy, didn't have much flavor, and probably not worth experimenting to make it better. Since that small basket of peaches was $17.00, my sister said it would be better to eat them fresh or make something tried and true, such as a peach cobbler or a peach pie.
**Note: On Tuesday, June 25, 2024, my brother-in-law ate a portion. He told my sister he thought some vanilla and cinnamon were needed. He kept looking for a piecrust, thinking it was like a chess pie. Since he ate it, that shows it wasn't horrible. My sister also talked about whether it would be worth it to experiment with the recipe to make it better. One of my viewers, Mrs. Peaches (that's her name), thought baking powder or baking soda might have helped. I've wondered if a lower cooking temperature might have helped.
Here is the recipe:
Apple Batter Pudding
Lowney Cook Book published 1912
Peach Batter Pudding
Follow the rule for making apple batter pudding by substituting peaches for apples.
1 cup milk
1 cup flour
2 eggs
2 tablespoons butter
1 teaspoon salt
2 cups quartered apples
2 tablespoons lemon juice
1/4 cup sugar
Mix sugar, salt, flour, eggs, and milk. When smooth, add apples; pour into a buttered baking dish, and bake in a moderate oven for one hour. Serve immediately with Wine Sauce. (No recipe)
**Helen's Note: A moderate oven temperature is between 350 degrees and 375 degrees.

Hi Helen. Never heard of Peach Batter Pudding. Sounded interesting. I don't care doughy texture either. I always try new recipes too. That is how you find the good ones. 💕💕

Exactly Janet. It's an old recipe from a 1912 cookbook. Being an old recipe doesn't mean it will be good, either. It's the gummy texture that threw me off.

Yes, I remember you being Martha's LIVE. I have mixed feelings about that peach batter pudding. It didn't taste bad, but it was not as wonderful and exciting as I thought it would.

Cobbler would have been delicious. I'm down on the peaches now. I either go buy more or just eat what I have.

Yes, Martha. Just spooning it out, I knew it wouldn't be good. There was no pudding! I felt it was important to share the bad results.

I think it would have been good to have a little baking powder or baking soda in it..or use self rising flour...

Mrs. Peach, hmm baking powder might have helped. It was strange for it to be gummy. Thank you for your suggestions.
