We travelled over to Fife in Scotland to catch up with Hamish at Peacehill farm. He talks about the different crops they sow and why they choose Rye as a main feed for the digester!!
GRASSMEN are the fast-paced, global agriculture phenomenon whose video content and merchandise are recognised worldwide. The business was started in 2009 by current director Gareth Gault, known to fans as ‘Donkey’. His love and passion for machinery allowed him to experiment with cameras and upload content to KZread. To his surprise, a large following soon developed and the niche in the market for real-life, documentary, farming and machinery action made it possible to drive the brand forward.
We at GRASSMEN, pride ourselves on providing an exclusive look into agricultural manufacturers, meeting real, working farmers, showing and demonstrating farming machinery through all seasons such as silage and slurry, and ultimately educating and entertaining our fans.
If you love all things agriculture from top manufacturers such as John Deere, Fendt, Massey Ferguson, JCB, Land Rover and many many more, come and join #teamgrassmen, we would love to have you.

With the amount of diesel and energy used to grow, harvest, and eventually process that, it would probably power the 4000 home's as well!

Yes but so long as it’s not fossil fuel people will just love it ( guess it makes them feel virtuous)
Down here in Cork Dennehy Harvesting travel to Germany each year for two months where they harvest maize for plants as well!

Finally a local one
When harvesting such rye with a forage harvester, is the grain also damaged or does it ensile in its entirety? What phase is the grain in? What is the content of dry matter, energy and protein in such a pocket? Thank you for your answer. great video.
Just a little bit of feedback, the interview parts are a bit quiet then the music is deafening 😂 absolutely love the content guys, can't wait for the next dvd to come out 😁
Is it possible to harvest rye in this phase with a harvesting trailer with knives or is a forage harvester necessary?
1500 acres 💁 some acreage wow 👍
Do digesters really make sense ?wonder how the numbers really crunch out, or is it just another way of subsidizing farmers

I was told that it roughly speaking works out the same as feed barley at £150 a ton (assuming you yield 3 tons to the acre) but obviously that varies hugely depending on what rate of tariff you were able to “lock in” at. It definitely has it’s merits, a nice early entry for OSR being one of them, and it’s certainly helped those lads that have them earn a more consistent income than they might otherwise if they were growing cereals or milking cows. More power to them I say.

@@Jorge-mm6ym Yes, but from an environmental point of view they use almost as much energy as they produce.
Next time you guys are in Fife check out the Buffalo Farm, they’ve just started their own mozzarella production.

The rates at which the ESB has set to sell to them at basically. Not worth it!
What's Ross doing?
What happens to waste from the digester?
@robevans8555

Breaks down into a liquid waste which can be spread back on the land as a fertiliser
1500 acres for 4000 homes really is a big waste.
Greens gone too far!$?
