PE: Shoulder Pain - OSCE Prep (Pulm, Cardiac, Pulses, Screening OSE, UE Neuro, MSK, Special Tests)

This particular video is intended as a demonstration of a physical exam that may be useful in evaluating a patient with shoulder pain.
It is not intended as a complete instructional video and should not be considered a source of complete physical examination instruction. It is also intended not as a perfect example of a physical exam that would be performed for a patient in clinical practice, but is designed to optimize function and efficiency for a OSCE testing setting.
Instead, it should be treated as a supplement to independent learning using primary Osteopathic Physical Examination instructional resources. Clinical skills are best learned and developed with support from faculty in the context of a complete Osteopathic Medical School Curriculum.
Osteopathic Clinical Skills is a channel dedicated to discussing and exploring Osteopathic Clinical Skills concepts for medical students, residents, and clinicians and presenting them in an easy to understand manner.

Great vid! For auscultating the lungs, which lobe of the right lung is being auscultated under the right breast--middle or lower? And do the posterior points cover all lobes of the lungs? Thanks! I usually have trouble knowing if I got every lobe auscultated or not

Hi! In the right lower field, the closer you are to the midline (like right lower eternal border) the more you are listening to the middle lobe. The more lateral you listen, the more it’s the lower lobe. The posterior points usually cover just upper and lower, since anatomically, the middle lobe is more anterior. Review an anatomical picture of the lung lobes and you’ll see what I mean. Hope that helps!

why dont you guys put 'normal' people on here. you know slightly heavy or basic looking. always putting fit models and testing them as if youll find anything wrong. the occasional normal looking people would be more relatable. cause we r the watching these. not them.

Hi, I appreciate the feedback. While this mock patient would likely take it as a compliment being referred to as a fit model, she is actually a medical student. Most of the volunteers for the videos on this channel are medical students who work with me and occasionally other physicians who are my colleagues. Because most of these videos are intended as a teaching tool starting with beginner students to more advanced, it is often very helpful to have demonstrations with mock patients who have easy to see landmarks and who have full range of motion and strength so they can fully participate and demonstrate what a “normal exam” would be. But I definitely see the benefit of having a more diverse set of patient body types and performance levels for demonstration. I am actually currently working on a few videos with more diverse patient examples. Keep your eyes peeled for those videos coming soon!
