Great tutorial, worked for me. I have some tips for people who have the Deluxe version of this controller(the one with the back buttons). If you can't find the 7th screw on the back, it's under the sticker when you remove this back buttons plate. When you're taking out the motherboard there are 2 additional screws near the 2 triggers.

Omg, thank you! I've been googling how to fix the controller button for so long and every answer seems to just clean the crevice when my controller is not dirty at all. It's kinda scary to try this though, hopefully my controller won't break lol

Excellent. Managed to open mine, clean it and sort out sticky the buttons.

This didn't quite work for me until I applied a small layer of silicon grease to the area around the contact on the rubber pad. Seems to be keeping the rubber from sticking, now. I guess I'll see what the long-term brings but thanks for getting me set in the right direction!

Thanks for your comment, always great to hear from people who have had to use alternative methods as it might help other viewers. :) Mine still works, but is more of a backup controller these days. Still handy to have around though.

Cool, thanks for sharing. I took a different approach on a PDP Faceoff (nintendo switch controller), as the cause is not quite the same. My solution was to add springs to increase the button return force; posted the details as an instructable - I think I can't post the URL, but it should be easy to find. "repair PDP faceoff controller"

Been looking for a tutorial and this is the first one with the same model of controller

I've had to open my controller twice now since this video uploaded just to clean the analog sticks and get buttons unstuck. Wow dust can literally destroy these flimsy pieces of tech.

Yeah, they're not the best controllers. They're not bad for the price though if you're looking for a 2nd controller which won't see much use.

@@qubitstech Yeah they're not the best, but they last a while. When you have severe stick drift like mine has though you might as well throw it away unless you wanna spend hours soldering and rebracing plastic pieces. Anyways, thanks for the video. Was helpful :)

the button is less tactile after doing this, but I way prefer that over having it stick. If I were to do it again I would try trimming less of the rubber off. I did almost exactly as you did.

Yeah, it's not as good as it was originally, but at least it works. I've done this to a few controllers, and it's always ended up similar to in the video, I never managed to get it to work with less rubber removed. No harm in trying if you have this issue again though :)

Cant wait to get back home and try this! I have taken apart my controller 3 times and tried my very best to clean it but i noticed that plastic for the a button just refuses to move like the other ones even after cleaning.

I did my best on replicating what was done in the video and it maybe worked for about an hour 😅 I'm sure every attempt might have a different outcome so, I'm curious to how many succeeded where I failed Now it's used as a hammer by my two year old 😂 I probably won't buy another PDP product though, I just went back to my Xbox controller that's been used for years and it's still a way stronger product.

Unfortunately not, I've never been able to find these anywhere. Best I could suggest is to find a faulty controller (with a good pad, of course) if you can find one cheap enough.

thank you my A button is working but now i have another problem: my controller isnt working, like when i plug it in, the light above the xbox button is off

My problem is with the rubber button pad, as I already tried cleaning, unfortunately I can't find the pad anywhere to replace it. Ironically it is also the A button; Oh, you covered the rubber pad, guess I'll have to try it.

Sorry, I've only just seen your comment. If the problem is that it's pressing down ok, but not registering a button press, you can try adding conductive coating to the pad. I've had success with kitchen foil in the past.

I dont think Im buying from this company again. Awful quality control despite a decent presentation.

Hi, sorry for the late reply. I used an iFixit Manta set, but really all you need is a Philips #0 screwdriver.

Do you know where I can find the replacement parts for a PDP controller? I need a new button pad but I can only find the one for the regular xbox controller (doesn't fit)

Unfortunately not, we couldn't find any either which is how this mod came about. Only thing I can suggest is trying to find a cheap faulty one to use for parts, or maybe contact PDP to see if they can help (I doubt it though).

It depends what's wrong with it. If it's bent, you might be able to bend the spring back into shape. If it's snapped, it will need to be replaced.

Hi, I used an iFixit screwdriver with a Phillips #0 bit for most of the screws. For the bottom pair I used a basic screwdriver as the iFixit shaft wasn't long enough. Hope this helps.

I have the same issues on my pdp controller but on mine B also get's stuck like A, is the same solution going to work for B as well, to just cut a rubber edge? @Qubits Tech

Yo, this solution worked for me initially, but about two months later I'm here again, with the button sticking and requiring a smack on the side of the controller to unstick. That is if I tap it, holding it makes it stick much more and it's progressively harder to unstick. Any ideas how to fix this again?

Hi, sorry it's stopped working for you. There's not really a lot you can do to be honest, you could try trimming a bit more around the button but it's probably time to buy a replacement. These controllers are not well designed unfortunately.

@@Yannic1904 A random, polish repair store. Just gotta Google and look. I couldn't find the exact ones and had to cut them up and replace only the ones that don't work. Sorry I couldn't be of much more help

Does this work with the xbox button at the top middle i got a lil piece of sunflower seed stuck right in the tiny space betwen the shell and the button and now its completely stuck inside

Hi, I'd try cleaning the contact first if you haven't already. You could give this a go, but to be honest I'm not sure it would work as it's the shape of the A button contact which seems to cause the issue.

ugh. wish I could fix mine. I could not get the screws out. one of them is too tight to remove by hand.

If you have a drill, you could try drilling the stuck screw out.

It seems is a bad design by pdp, because many of us have issues with this model

Welp mine fell off, wouldn’t stop sticking no matter how much I took off and eventually the piece itself while I was testing popped out of the rubber, anybody know if there is a replacement I could buy somewhere that would work?

I bought new my Xbox controller to use it with Steam Deck. And, found it has a sticky A button, sometimes it just stucked inside. I have to repress it to release it. Damn, I should’ve buy a DS5.. 😢

The black wire got ripped off. Is that bad?

No idea, at a guess I'd say the camera picked up sound from a TV, or maybe someone else talking. No asmr intended, but my setup is far from fancy :)

Sorry to hear that, I'd suggest taking it apart again and checking everything is correctly in place to see if that fixes it.
