Castile Soap is recognized as a great Bar of Soap. Olive Oil is the only oil used to make Castile Soap! The number of ingredients does NOT dictate the quality of Soap!

I know in the UK, grapefruit seed oil is used as an preservative and what most soapers in the USA DON'T KNOW, is that all the UK soapers' recipes "have to be approved by a CHEMIST or cannot be sold, per the government." I can't believe that i just heard her say that she could sell the soap with only a 2 week cure period. Cold process needs 4 to 6 weeks at least!

Incorrect, the Soap can be used immediately after unmolding. The cure time is to help with the hardness and reduce water content.

I am a soaping hobbyist who is considering upgrading to a small business and some of what you presented was helpful to me. :) You have done such a great job creating excellent products and your successful business that I almost hesitated to encourage you not to make the chocolate cake soap, or at least don't present it as take out food, with plastic wrapping and a plastic fork. I know it seems like a cute idea but am repelled by the plastic as well as the thought of children eating it. Best of luck to you! I will be looking for more of your videos! :)

How the hell do you know what other soapers are using? I'm guessing of your 7 ingredients two of them are water and lye.

And her other oils are castor and olive (or cheaper!, sunflower etc), and we're at 7 ingredients... I couldn't believe what I was hearing, am only 4.5 minutes in the video (after skipping the beginning) and HAD to stop in an outburst of 'blatant lie!' LOL, to go read the comments to see if I were alone, fortunately I am not!

I enjoy the video, BUT I'm afraid this would put people off wanting to make soap. It really isn't that "crazy" busy rush rush stressful situation that it is portrayed as. In fact, making soap is very calming and serene for many. If one is prepared, there is no need to rush around like that. Rushing is how accidents happen.

I know he soap looked like it was at a light trace and she was rushing around saying "this is crazy this crazy gotta get it in fast." That soap was no where near thick. Lol

+EssenceRose3 I completely agree. Soap making is very calming for me. In the beginning I loved making candles, but once I got into soap making, it was indeed a very calming experience for me.

How do you keep your cure time so short? At 1 week it wouldn't still be too caustic? I would really love to learn how ( I currently have a 6-8 week cure time).

Soap is ready to use after 24 hours. The chemical process should be done sooner than that, but it's generally safe in 24 hours. Most of the time, curing is mostly to let the soap dry out and lose some of it's water weight. If used too soon, the soap is softer and doesn't seem to last as long. I can make my batch, cut it in 24 hours, and have it packaged within a week for sale. I have no complaints about soap being caustic. Some think the soap disappears too fast. But I try to find a balance between that fresh sent you get from fresh soap and a fully cured bar that will last longer. Hope that helps :) BTW.. Great video Sunrise!

You can also do the soap with the hot process method and not have to wait at all! I do usually let those cure for a week just to ensure a nice hard bar.

You kept talking about the 7 basic oils that you used but you only named 4. What are the others?

I can appreciate your exact measurements being secret but honestly you cannot possibly supply the entire buying community and I think it's a wonderful thing to share the products you use and why to help the soaping community to learn!

I absolutely love this video!! May I ask how long the grapefruit seed extract preserve the lotion for, and is it added to your soaps as preservatives?

Grapfruit seed extract is not a long-term shelf stable preservative. While there are benefits for the skin, preservation is not what it's best used for. Unfortunately, this lotion will be harboring things that can become serious health problems if you use them with a cut on your skin. Sad that she's giving misinformation in this video.

+Juanita Miglio The method of soap she was using is CP (Cold Process), so her claim at the start of the video that her soap is ready after 2-3 week is False (while it is safe to use, it is not "ready"). Soap needs time to "cure" to evaporate out the water used. This allows the soap to harden as the water evaporates to last longer, and become more mild for the skin. Even with a water discount, CP soap could be ready as early as 4 weeks (unless she lives in a very hot/dry environment with very little humidity) and can take up to 6-8 weeks.

Just to let you know that you are paying high prices Brambleberry has 32ounces of grapefruit seed extract for $120 you pay $200 they sell 7lbs for $358 . You also said u paid $80-$90 for 16 oz of activated charcoal Natures Garden has 16oz for $19.25. I always check prices everywhere to get the least expensive price I can. Maybe you were off a little on quoting if not check these stores out. I love your store and I love how you do tours it is awesome. I wish I lived close so I could come visit.I love how everyone is up beat it makes it nice to shop where people like their jobs, LOL Keep making products but check around for prices. Good luck.

I love watching any soaping video and enjoyed yours. I too make a lot of soap and over 150 products. Yes, grapefruit seed extract is NOT a preservative. It is an antioxidant, which basically means it will not kill any bacteria, it only slows oxidation of ingredients. A good natural preservative would be something like OptifenPlus, no parabens etc. Also, not wearing gloves while mixing may introduce bacteria. I always challenge test every batch I make that will be a left on product, for bacteria and fungus. This testing will show any "bad" stuff over the course of its shelf life and you will see what is happening in your product. All surfaces should be sterilzed with a 70% alcohol solution as well. I hope you have a good insurance policy. It will just take one case against you to take you down a path of no return. I only share these points to help make you more successful and I wish you and all soapers the best. Nothing is better than REAL soap. Keep up the good work!!

Preservatives are a must. Liability is a concern. There are good natural preservatives for certain types of ph, oil and/or water based products. It is very important to study this info. Confusing at first but it will gel as you do.

Wow, I feel so bad for the woman that did this video. I have never seen grown adults bully someone like this. I liked her video, and her store was cool, and sure there were some things she did I wouldnt do but if u cared u could say it to her privately in her FB messanger. Dont ridicule her in front of everyone. Lush doesnt wrap their bath bombs they have lots of people who dont wash there hands that are picking them up and smelling them so what was wrong with what she did if a well known company does it. I personally would not buy a bath bomb that so many people have picked up and touched but people do it all day long. Lots of people sell their soap wrapped like that too. Lush sells lots of products like that. I couldnt believe my brother bought a deoderant stick just wrapped in wax paper so hey they do it. If u dont like it just dont do it that way and Im sure if she was not up to health code she would be shut down. When I owned my business the health department dropped in at least 4 times a year and Im sure they do it with her too. If her practices wernt up to par they would shut her down. I also do not think that when she was talking about how good her soap was she meant everybody elses was less than hers. When I watched it I took it as though she was comparing it with soap u buy in the stores, and how much better her ingredients were then what the store bought bars have in them. We dont know if her counters and equipment and hands were all washed and sanatized before she started filming Im sure they were. She wouldnt stay in business long if she was not up to her states health code. I caught it when she was telling us some of the prices on some of her products that were quite high and instead of saying something inappropriate I offered up a couple names of companys where she could purchase those items much cheaper. We need to be helping each other in this community of crafters and we need to be positive and up beat and offer our help and be supportive of one another. I just hate when I see people being ridiculed by others its not right. Shes proud of her company and shes just trying to share with others not get bombarded with all the rude harsh comments some people left her. Please treat people the way you want to be treated thats all Im trying to say and it seems like when one person leaves a not so nice comment everyone jumps on the bully train and each message gets worse. Just stop and be nice. If you dont have something nice to say dont say it at all. Thanks for your videos and your store is really cool. Good luck in the future and God Bless.

finally some one with a positive attitude in this thread, I dislike the spiteful remarks of other soapers here, this is not on as you said we are a community and must support each other instead of attacking others for not being up to our standards, let everyone be an individual and have respect for their craft. I am grateful for this video being a soaper I am eager to learn new tricks and this video has taught me lots of good things, even if I don't agree with some of her statements I support her and thank her for her courage to do a video to a world wide audience full of critical people, I couldn't have done it myself. Not nice at all to claim that only your soap is good. There is a Lot of wonderful soapmakers out there and recognizing it is a good way to be a sustainable busines. Yours others claims some of them are even funny, because are silly unreal and false. Besides, where is your quality control? you touching everything without gloves? You mentioned 7 basic oils and didn't tell them, Lol. Do you really think only you know about the good oils? Rethink your speech.

Hard to believe this woman's claim of so many years of soaping given the number of violations I see here - violations of the FDA, the USDA, the Fair Packaging & Labeling Act, and the Consumer Products Safety Commission. Geez, as she's picking up the UNNATURAL Ultramarine Pink, (sitting next to the UNNATURAL Ultramarine Blue,) she goes on about her natural colorants. What a crock of false advertising. Drug claims on soap? Products for acne, psoriasis, poison ivy?? Clearly, she can't even qualify for the GMP for cosmetics, let alone the much stricter standards for the production of drug products. GSE as a preservative? Um,no. There's more on her website. M & P Soap - as if that's natural, you know...call them "glycerin soaps"....never mind the chem that makes the stuff remelt or anything else in it. (Shhhh....!) A Made in America claim, even though the bulk of her ingredients are not made in America, but come from various parts of the world....and on and on it goes. She, and others like her, are the reasons the FDA wants to throw down the gauntlet on small-scale makers of bath & body products, most of whom won't survive the changes the FDA wants to make, thus go out of business. What I see sooooo often are those who get hyped up on the fun of production, never once thinking about any legalities surrounding this industry. This is truly a self-indicting video, and stands as the perfect cringe-worthy example of what NOT to do.

Maybe what she's touching are things for herself or testers in the store, etc.

I put 9 ingredients into my soap. Mine must be better. This presenter sounds rather smug. There are many thousands of soap makers across the US. Many if not most of them use the most quality products in their soap because it is intended for their family. Presenter, get over yourself.

The side of the pot is nasty..

it is so sad, the soap making is a passion, there are so many great soap makers out there but if you see this it is mixed together without measuring fragrance direct out of the bottle. And always talking bad of the other soap makers. It is sad that she has to do that.

UGH! Honestly, I am so sickened by this lady's arrogance. I wasn't going to comment, as I see so many others have done the job previously- this presenter is not only rude, making untrue claims about the quality of her product vs. 'the other soap makers', the ability of Grapefruit Seed Oil as a preservative... but the thing that stands out to me the most- is that she, (and the other co-workers) are not even using the basic standards of cleanliness. NO GLOVES? NO HAIRNETS? HANDLING OF UNPACKAGED PRODUCTS WITH YOUR HANDS? And the worst? At about 26:14 you can see that she has a black spot on her right index finger which is either FINGERNAIL FUNGUS, CROSS-CONTAMINATION from another product, or the result of an injury- WHICH ALL WOULD BE SOLVED BY USING GLOVES!!! Ma'am, as a small scale soap maker myself, I couldn't imagine making my products for the public without that simple courtesy.

Additionally, while I, and so many others, are aware of the benefits of the various essential oils, etc.; if you make any claims that your product helps acne, cellulite reduction, reduction of puffy eyes, skin problems, etc., your product falls under the FDA guidelines for a DRUG- NOT A COSMETIC. (Yes, I wish this was not so; but it is.) I just cannot get over how many products you touched with bare hands, and an obvious runny nose (whether from allergies or illness- it is DISGUSTING). And while most all of us mix bath bombs with our hands, as that is the best way- we USE GLOVES! And DO NOT PUT PRODUCTS ON A BARE COUNTER. Are you aware of how many health code violations you 'advertised' for your company? Not to mention the disservice you have done to the rest of us soap makers, when the public sees this, and may associate all handcrafted body products with THIS.

16 ounces of activated charcoal does NOT cost 80.00 to 90.00 dollars! What an exaggerated video. Obnoxious much!

She is very full of herself and what really got me is that she claims and tells customers that you can CURE 90%+ skin issues with a good bar of soap. Is she a doctor and a soapmaker? I'm only watching her video because I'm bored and all I see is sloppy workmanship and a stressful, hurry up work atmosphere. She needs to get off her high-horse. PS: I would NEVER put an oil in a bath bomb. That is just screaming for an accident and lawsuit.

Chocolate cake soap is stupid. But what is more stupid is putting actual icing on chocolate cake soap. LIkewise, I wonder how "all natural" it is to apply glitter to your soap? This presenter is smarmy and full of herself and her soap. And her soap isn't that impressive.

Just about everything she says is not true--starting with 'the stores do not sell REAL soap' and goes onto to say why 'ONLY' HER SOAP IS. It's partially true but many stores are now selling REAL SOAP. because customers sick of "BARS" that cannot be called soap. I hope your not here to learn.

How is beef fat pretrolleum? I use 10 ingredients in my soaps is mine more supreme then yours? Get over yourself and go back to school. Its one thing to self promote its another to degrade others doing the same thing as you.
