I kinda of wonder, the two definite spots on the gill plate, has me considering if it might be a hybrid, with lowering numbers of salmon , i wonder if either precocious parr / or brown trout on the redds are doing their bit and salmon/trout hybrids might just be natures backup for seagoing stock, or its parents were a large female sea trout been watched over on the redds by smaller male salmon (or vice versa) , , maybe just the autumn colours confusing things a bit, but square tail and the two stand out gill plate spots seems to show the distinguish marks of the two in one fish . Cracking fish either way. Tight Lines for 2024 if your still throwing a line.
@scottishoutdoorlife
4 ай бұрын
Hi, thanks for watching. For me, the square tail, the extended jaw and the spots below the lateral line point towards trout. I do agree the lack of fish in the rivers opens up the opportunity of hybrids. Nature will find a way.

Hello, Canadian fisherman here. Is a sea trout a sea run brown trout? We have sea run rainbow trout here that we call steelhead. I was wondering if the fact that they live in salt water is the reason for the name change.

Hi thanks for watching, yes they are just sea run brown trout. Same idea as steelhead. Hope you enjoyed the video. 👍

Excellent action video and some great angling skills, please correct me also, but isnt one of the differences that a Sea Trout has spots below the lateral line, when a Salmon doesn't, and historically a Sea Trout is a Brown trout, that went to sea ?
@scottishoutdoorlife
Жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching and the kind comments, yes you are correct a sea trout has spot below the line when a salmon doesn't. It does become more difficult when bother are dark and in their spawning colours, for me the tail is always a giveaway, straight edged is always a trout. 👍

@scottishoutdoorlife

Hi, thanks for watching. For me, the square tail, the extended jaw and the spots below the lateral line point towards trout. I do agree the lack of fish in the rivers opens up the opportunity of hybrids. Nature will find a way.
Good solid fish those.

Hello, Canadian fisherman here. Is a sea trout a sea run brown trout? We have sea run rainbow trout here that we call steelhead. I was wondering if the fact that they live in salt water is the reason for the name change.
@scottishoutdoorlife
9 ай бұрын
Hi thanks for watching, yes they are just sea run brown trout. Same idea as steelhead. Hope you enjoyed the video. 👍
Excellent action video and some great angling skills, please correct me also, but isnt one of the differences that a Sea Trout has spots below the lateral line, when a Salmon doesn't, and historically a Sea Trout is a Brown trout, that went to sea ?
@scottishoutdoorlife
Жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching and the kind comments, yes you are correct a sea trout has spot below the line when a salmon doesn't. It does become more difficult when bother are dark and in their spawning colours, for me the tail is always a giveaway, straight edged is always a trout. 👍
Nice size a good one . Ive caught a few Sea trout i yrs back now when last there in the river Earn in Perthshire and were a bar eh Silver and so much different looking than this one seen ..Fight harder than any trout ive caught in lochs i recall Also have caught Brown trout in the river Earn yrs back now. Can i ask where can a person purchase a days permit these days and prices ?

Hi thanks for watching, I respect your opinion. I have known lots of Salmon caught and tethered for a long time(hours on occassion) sent to the hatchery as brood stock and survive for years after to spawn each year.
