Hey Wes, I thought you might be interested in a couple suggestions for your fruit orchard if you haven't considered them already. One is the American persimmon. A native tree that should grow in zone 5a but has both male and female trees, though some are supposedly self pollinating. The other is the American plum, also a native that grows even in zone 3 and while self pollinating, produces better with others. Both have tasty fruit, like full sun and slightly acidic soil. Thank you for the suggestion! I actually just purchased stratified persimmon seeds this week and have 4 seedlings persimmon trees I purchased over the winter. I will do more research on the American plum, sounds like it would fit in perfectly for me. Thanks for the support!
