I kind of understand that mentality, if you know the market and know what is easier to liquidate. For example, precious metals: I'd rather have an ounce of gold than an ounce of silver because gold is worth more, but both are easy to liquidate. But would I rather have 10,000 ounces of gold or 1 ounce of Rhodium, though? Rhodium is incredibly rare, and an ounce can run you about $20,000. But where am I going to sell it?
@rearwheelron7575
Жыл бұрын
@@UnprofessionalProfessor Rhodium is a combination of alloys though. You could sell it to literally any small or bigger jeweler. Every “White gold” piece is rhodium plated and requires maintenance to stay white since there actually isnt a “white gold” unless you go platinum. Nonetheless, rhodium would be pretty easy to liquidate
@rearwheelron7575

Chemists, automotive manufacturers ( since theres roughly 80% rhodium content in catalytic converters and thats why they get stolen and resold so heavily
@UnprofessionalProfessor
Жыл бұрын
@@rearwheelron7575 Exactly! You know the market, so you make that choice. Someone who doesn't know the market as well wouldn't be so likely to sink a large sum into something they know nothing about. Yes, Rhodium is easy to liquidate (easier than a vintage poker chip, but that's beside the point). But if you still want to have money invested while only liquidating what you need, you'd go for the gold*. Likewise; this guy would rather not have all his money tied up in one chip. *Yeah, you can divide it into grams; but for the sake of keeping it simple, I'm sticking with the gold/Rhodium choices originally presented.
