I don't know the guy's financial situation, but I would have just left telling Rick that was the last time I go to his store for any reason. You don't just shut people down with ultimatums like that. Sutirtha Misra actually they get cherry picked when they come in the store in real life none of the pawn stars are actually there. When something show worthy comes in they set them up with pawn stars to put it on the show. What you see is an actual deal going down however the people in the background are extras to put on the show to make it look like a normal day at the shop.

Yep, if you sold it at auction you could be paying 30% commission, plus if you set a reserve you will be paying a % of the reserve price up front, plus other fees. And you would have to wait weeks to get the money I'm guessing. But as a collector you probably would have had it graded before taking it somewhere to sell it. If he'd done that Rick would have offered him more as the risk would be less.

Rick took all the risk by buying before knowing the grade of the note. He paid $2,500 for it and then spent more money to send it off to be graded. There was a possibility that it would come back with a lower grade and he could have lost money in the transaction. He didn't lowball on the offer. He offered the amount that he was willing to risk. Had the customer walked in with the note already graded to be worth around $7,000 then Rick probably would have offered around $6,000

When the label on the slab (applied when a note is certified) says "NET", that means that's what the note looks like, but there is some reason for this designation--often it means the note has been restored in some way to make it look as if it is worthy of that grade. Paper Money Guaranty (PMG) will always guarantee that the note is genuine if they put their label on it, but they won't guarantee the grade when it has the NET notation. On the back of the label will be a comment as to why the NET was put on the front. PCGS, the other major paper money grading service, uses the word "Apparent" instead, but for the same reason.
1:25 Rick: "That's who prints all our money and who was printing it back then." The Federal Reserve does "not print all our money"... the Bureau of Engraving and Printing does.

Lots of people on here talking about the seller getting scammed. If you don't find out what something is worth or do the initial work yourself (get it graded) than don't expect the top dollar. 1918 $1000 bill in VF 20 Greensheet wholesale is priced at $16,000. One could probably net about $10,000 to $12,000 after fees by selling it at auction, possibly more. (The grading fee was less than $100.) Edit: Heritage just sold one graded the same VF 25 on August 15th 2019 for for a little over $15,000 including a buyers fee of 17 percent.

Hi! Thanks for being a #PawnStars fan!
This is the highest denomination from the series of 1918 that is considered collectible. $5,000 and $10,000 bills were also issued, but those only exist in museums. The one thousand dollar bill that we are looking at here is one of only a handful of bank notes to actually feature a dollar sign (it is on the back). Lots of low serial numbers exist for 1918 $1,000 bills. The serial number really doesn’t add any extra value. All of these notes are valued based on their condition and issuing district. The most generic examples in heavily circulated condition usually sell for around $8,000. Many notes have the chance to be worth a lot more if they are in XF condition or higher.

Old man about to have a heart attack, greedy
A story my family tells about my grandpa right before he died of cancer is about how he was friends with the owner of the town bank. He had brain cancer and his mind was slipping pretty bad and one day he gets a call from his friend and he tells him they just had a 1,000 dollar bill come in at the bank and they are gonna have to get it destroyed unless my grandpa wants to buy it for 1,200 under the table. My grandpa was paranoid as a side effect of his health issues and later that day told my dad about how the banker "tried to cheat him out of $200"
Rick should really just always be dressed as Dr.Evil with his “how bout NO”
All of this stuff is stage but the info is informative
Rick robbed that guy and was rude to him as well!
3:18 0.0 thats crazy that even the seller probably didnt know due to the age of a peice of currency like that but... still the serial did look slightly... different in font or out of round zero or curves in it's numbering but... still- that is super suprises me they did not hold a super strong magnet to see if hopefully it is swayed towards the magnet (meaning that hopefully it is not easily faked with magnetic ink or ferrous meaning iron containing)
I dont' know why you examining in it, it's already been graded, pure savage😂
Guess the the show "Pawn Stars" teaches how to be a professional low baller

They Put Hamilton In the 1,000 Dollar Bill Then The $10?

robert chandler I was thinking the same thing !! How & why would you save a $1000 bill during that time period ?! Especially since $1000 could’ve bought a lot of things including a house !! Since it was held onto for so long & the times of our history it was held onto through I can only imagine how loaded the family must have been
I know this is a long shot especially cuz this video is so old but does anyone know the name of that piece hanging behind Rick in this episode? It’s mesmerizing
Bills this size were printed not intended for wide circulation. They were intended to move large sums of money in between banks to make amounts balance.
