As a small child… 4-5 yr old, I found a baby food jar that my Dad had hidden in the kitchen cabinet’s, it had old steel Pennie’s and Buffalo nickels and mercury dimes. Dad never said “Don’t touch this these are special”… so when I found it, I thought I could go to the store and buy bubble gum (early 1960’s ). Fast forward 30+ years later I was collecting my own coins and found where a few Steel Pennie’s and rare Buffalo nickels were worth quite a pretty penny and have always wondered if I squandered away a small fortune… Always good to tell your children about collector items and also about greed!

A silver dime could buy a loaf of bread back then. I know because I did it. Based on the price of silver right now, you can sell an ordinary silver dime and buy a loaf of bread with the proceeds. Steel pennies were the common variety. If there was a real copper one from the same year, it would be worth a lot. So the silver dimes probably would outvalue everything else in the jar.

I have a two dollar bill that was given to me by the secretary of the treasury when I was a freshman in college in 1974. It has been folded several times but you know what I don’t care that means all your little criteria it’s still special to me. It’s even signed by the lady. She came to our university she was promoting I don’t know hot but we all were given a two dollar bill. I asked her if she would sign it and she said well I already have but I’ll sign it again and she did. So my two dollar bill has her signature twice one printed on the bill and one written on the bill. Any upset might not meet your criteria of being folded because it’s been folded up in my jewelry box for many years!

5:58 I once worked as an assets protection officer at Target #300 in Mission Viejo, CA. And a cashier was checking out a Mexican family, And she called me over because she was concerned about the bills they were using. She thought they were phony money. He had one of these two dollar bills 1953 with the red seal and, five 1935 one dollar bills, with blue seals. I pulled a $20 bill out of my pocket, and gave it to the gentleman, and walked away with the $1’s & $2 bills. Later the check out girl asked me why I did that. I said they were indeed real bills they’re just very old, and I collect old currency.

We went to the mint in DC late 90's on vaca. I bought two 2 dollar bills on the same sheet uncut bought 2 of these double bills and had them framed along with the description page of all the bill parameters this guy is talking about. 1 double 2 dollar sheet is shown the front side the other is shown the green backside. Had them framed as a keepsake for that vaca. I just got up to check if they had a star and nope lol...But its a pretty cool framed picture. In those days in the FBI exhibit in DC they had a .45 machine gun exhibit. You sat in bleachers behind bullet proof glass and an agent comes out and blasts a target with a .45 machine gun. Pretty cool. They have every pistol made on exhibit. They don't shoot the .45 anymore I hear.

I also worked at a bank and found a $2 bill that was cut incorrectly. The paper obviously was folded when money was cut and instead of being an oblong bill it has this corner that unfolds into a long (about an inch) piece. Never found out if it was worth more than $2. I also collected all the silver I got over the teller counter and saved it until I has a few hundred dollars and sold it to a collector! Wish I has it now! I has pretty good collection of old money however.

Notes with the seal and serial numbers are United States Notes. All others are Federal Reserved Notes. To the best of my knowledge, the last time United States Notes were issued were in 1963 under order of then-President Kennedy. Both types of notes are legal tender, which means that they are not lawful money, but by law are treated the same as lawful money.

I learned it was so rare after a few days went by and why. Also, learned he had stolen them from his g-ma! They do not have any creases and are sealed in a plastic sleeve. 1976 series... My question is... Because there is a hand stamped postage stamp do they have any value?

I’ve always kept my $2 bills. I’ve got a few from 2013, some from 1995, and some from 1976 for some reason. (I was born in 1982). They are all badly folded and used. The ones from 1976 will have some random number written on it with pen. One of those even has a bright purple stamp that reads USPO July 4 1976. So um, you are saving 10k per year in paper and not gold or silver which will actually hold its purchasing power? Seriously, do not stack cash for long term savings, turn it into gold or silver, inflation is the value of '1' approaching zero. The only way silver and gold become worthless is mad max/zombie apocalypse with beans and bullets as currency.

I was a teenager in the 70’s and had received a $20 bill in change, along with other bills. At a later date, I used that bill to pay for my purchase and suddenly I was accused of submitting counterfeit money and they were threatening to call the police. I offered to write a check but they refused and said I had committed a crime. I had noticed it was a $20 but didn’t pay much attention and since I didn’t have another to compare it with, didn’t notice it was different. Cooler heads and probably better aware prevailed, and I was allowed to go. Apparently, it was a $20 silver certificate, so the other alert employee at the store realized it and swapped it out and probably profited from it as it was crisp. After that, I paid more attention to my change other than the amount.
